I must admit, when I first saw this book in the fashion shelves at Indigo with my good friend Julia, I did not want to buy it. I was intrigued, but I said to myself "Well, Linnéa, it is Teen Vogue. Don't expect too much." So I decided to borrow it from the library instead, and boy, am I glad I gave this book a chance. It is so comprehensive, smart, clear and fun, that I will go far enough to say that A) I am absolutely going to buy this book and B) Anyone who loves fashion and/or who has ever considered going into fashion as a career should read this book. Even if you have a just a little smidge of interest. I am planning on going to fashion school in September myself, and this book has been extremely helpful. I am extremely impressed. Hooray for Teen Vogue!!!

The Teen Vogue handbook is basically a guide to careers in fashion. Whether you're interested in becoming a photographapher, model, stylist, make-up artist, fashion designer, or play one of various roles in the making of fashion magazines; this book has you covered. It is intended to answer any questions you may have about the industry of your choice, and provide you with information to help you see if a certain career in fashion may be right for you. However, even for those who are not lining up to be the next big thing in fashion, The Teen Vogue handbook is fascinating and entertaining. There are many tips and tricks on how to succeed in the fashion career of your choice, and from people who really know what they're doing. They have interviewed many well-known successful people from each line of work; such as Anna Wintour (editor of American Vogue), Chanel Iman (top model), and Pat McGrath (rising British make-up artist), to only name a few. They inform you on how they climbed the ladder of prosperity, give their best advice, and of course, give you some insight into what it's really like in the cut-throat world of fashion. I give this book two Chanel thumbs up. :)

Finally I achieved my dream of reading this book! Since childhood I'm in love with fashion and after joining to Tumblr community, I saw this particular book wide spread. I feel content that I could read it.
Great book about the fashion community and how to join as a career.

all of this can be summed up easily:

- work hard and don't let anything stop you and if you must, do it yourself
- learn as much as you can and don't stop learning
- know somebody who knows somebody in new york; basically networking is KEY

This vibrant, colorful book is sure to appeal to teens no matter what their interest in fashion is. From the eye-catching cover to the subject matter, teens will be attracted to this book whether they are considering a career in the fashion industry or not. Even this reviewer reconsidered her career choice while reading this book. The handbook covers all facets of the fashion industry including designers, editors, stylists, models, makeup artists, and photographers each with its own chapter. Each area of interest also has a toolkit for aspiring professional in fashion. For example, the “essential items of the pros” for an editor include a recorder for interviews, passport, a brightly colored suitcase for easy spotting at baggage claim, and face powder for a polished look all day. Many of the people highlighted are tops in the field, well known, and work for Vogue and some are up-and-comers. Sprinkled throughout the book are bold-faced, yellow-highlighted helpful tips for teens to consider in planning their careers. The appendix includes a list and description of top design schools, a glossary of words in the fashion biz, a “talking the talk” guide, and an index.

Like many teen girls, the idea of a career in the fashion industry really intrigued me, so when a friend bought this book I was eager to borrow it. A part of me thought it would be a bit of a candyfloss book, some pretty pictures and all, but not much solid useful career advice.
Boy, was I wrong!
My main focus was the editors pages, which were brilliant. They showed that their career paths weren't easy. You had to do some boring schlepping around, and at high levels the workload was insane. It's not a flimsy, throw-away career path, like the industry may seem.
All in all, a very good insight. It showed a traditional route to fashion careers, and also the way that plain ol' hard work can get you where you want to be.

This book was the only thing I wanted for my thirteenth birthday, and with all my wishes to the fashion gods I got it! It became my bible, I carried it everywhere with me, always finding something new to drool over. As a hope-to-be fashion designer and stylist this book gave me everything I needed to know. Where ever your personal interest in the fashion industry may lie this book has everything you need to know about it. From editing to photography this book has personal interviews with people on the inside to tell you just how to get your foot in the door. Three years later and I, myself still look to it for guidance for my future. For anyone with a love for fashion and how its industry works, get this book as soon as possible!

Oh my goodness, I love this book so much!! It features interviews from some of the top professionals of the fashion industry, including designers, magazine editors, hairstylists, and make-up artists. For anyone interested in fashion, their stories about past experiences in the industry and how they got their respective starts are both fascinating and informative. Much of their advice on how to get a job in fashion can be applied to any career path. The handbook is designed graphically just like the magazine and is full of photos from past issues of Teen Vogue and Vogue, so in a way, it's like the best-ever issue of Teen Vogue, perfect when you don't feel like reading a book!

I absolutely adore this book! It's a must-read for anyone aspiring to have a career in the fashion industry. However, if you do not want to be in the fashion industry this book will be very boring. You would only find the images the most fascinating part. Whereas, a fashion lover would drink up the wonderful little life segments of famed designers, editors, and models! I loved how the book was stylized like a magazine. The worst part of the book was that it couldn't be bigger and feature more names. Great Read! I definitely recommend this book!

I though this would be a good resource, especially since I read many good reviews on it, but it wasn't in the end. I thought this book would be a guide to different fashion careers: list different careers, what they are/do, tips on becoming one, but it was basically just interviews of famous successful people in these different fashion careers. I don't want to read about a bunch of success stories because the majority of people do not do so well, and I want practical tips on designing or styling or photographing, not a bunch of success stories which don't help me at all.

This book is perfect for anyone looking into the fashion industry. Its full of information. The bright colors, pictures, and layout make it fun to read. The font used is fairly small so although there are pictures, they did not skimp on text. This book would be a great gift for anyone interested in fashion.

It's a very good book, letting you read into the perspective of some famous names, their history on how they reached their fame, what they suggest and what they look for in an assistant.
It did leave a bitter taste on my mouth... I feel like the factor of luck also helps a lot.

For me, Teen Vogue Handbook: An Insider's Guide to Careers in Fashion was a really intriguing revelation to the fashion industry through multiple success stories from fashion icons. One of my favorite things from the book was the fact that they had personal interviews with icons such as Karl Lagerfeld, Anna Wintour, and Alexander Wang. Additionally, the author explored different perceptions on the fashion industry, and remarked on the process of achieving a specific leadership role in fashion. The book encompassed the stories of multiple fashion brands, while also including interviews from diverse characters in a fashion company, such as with design executives, marketing executives, and CEOs. One thing that I disliked was the author's writing style. Instead of providing a clear diagram of all the possible roles in a fashion company, they list numerous roles randomly throughout the book. I made a particular connection with the modern and edgy designs of Alexander Wang, who also started as an Asian kid that had a passion in fashion design. There were no questions that were unanswered; the book answered my questions about how to progress in the fashion industry, the reality of fashion design, the tedious year schedule of fashion designers, and the essential resources for fashion-aspiring individuals as recommended by CEOs. I would recommend this book to teenagers, students, and young adults that are passionate about fashion, and would consider a career in fashion in their future. Since this book incorporates many strategies to advance a person's fashion career, interns that are currently working at magazines such as Vogue, Harpers' Bazaar, Marie Claire, or others can consider taking notes of the information in the handbook.

Enjoyable & informative read even if you don't want a career in fashion. Covers: designers, stylists, makeup artists, set designers, photographers & models. Hndrds of great photos, most of course from the pages of Teen Vogue. Interviews with industry insiders & advice on getting started. My only caveat is that the section on design schools/colleges/universities is primarily USA-focused, with a couple thrown in from the UK & France. I know Teen Vogue is an American publication so it's expected to a certain degree, but are there no worthwhile design institutes anywhere else in Europe. Or for that matter, Africa, Asia or Australia/NZ? Even if they didn't profile the colleges, they could at least have done a "best of the rest" list with website details. Also, given this is a guide to getting started in a creative industry - how about shortlists of some of the major galleries & museums, with artists it's worth checking out? - Since visiting such places is one of the pieces of advice given for starting to hone your own personal style.......

Covered here are the likes of Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang, Stella McCartney, Vogue editor-and-chief Anna Wintour, model Karlie Kloss, and many more. The book Teen Vogue Handbook, is a guide to help young or older people enter the world of Fashion. The author gives out an enormous amount of information as to how to become a fashion designer, photographer, editor, stylist, makeup artist, hairdresser, and overall how to make fashion out of a career. The purpose for writing this book, was to give people who have the desire to be apart of fashion, and don’t know where to start, is to give them ideas in how to jump forward in the world of fashion.

The way the book is set up strikes me as important, the book is set up by sharing stories of famous editors, designers, models, and etc. As to how they made it in the fashion world, their personal background stories and tips given to others in which they could jump start their fashion career. This book does enhance a person's understanding, just by simply explaining specific jobs and duties in fashion.

I’d recommend this book to people who are interested in fashion, but don’t know exactly where to start. Also to people who are interested in branding themselves. Because this books doesn’t just talk about the fashion world, it gives tips how a person could get their name out to the public without having negativity behind it. Also simply to anyone because it gives ways to be confident and different, and to be okay with yourself as being the person you are.
