Theology of Worship (New Church's Teaching Series, 12)

Rate this book
In this exploration of the foundations of Anglican worship, Louis Weil invites the laity to claim their true baptismal role and serve alongside the ordained as ministers and celebrants of the liturgy. He explains how the contribution of the people of God has steadily diminished over the centuries and why it is necessary to reclaim it today in the midst of Anglicanism's increasing multiculturalism. Since Anglicans are no longer primarily English-speakers worshiping in Gothic cathedrals, Weil challenges us to engage new forms of culture, music, liturgical prayers, and dance in order to renew Anglicanism for the new century.

Reviewing series as a whole: This was a good series. It helped shaped the way I think about the Episcopal Church. It has greatly improved my ability to mentor an EfM group. However, my take was that a lot of the books duplicated the same ground and did not necessarily cover the ground they were supposed to cove based on their title and descriptions. Overall, they were helpful, though.

The last in this series that I have access to. Although my former priest studied under the author and greatly respected him, I honestly felt that it fell into the same trap as the others in the series.

Reading this in prep as I begin the journey to the diaconate. So much important insight on worship.
