When a chick lit marries a hp this is the result.
The hp vibes are:
- hero who falls for the heroine, love at first sight.
- hero with a traumatic childhood
- hero who acts like a jerk because he loves the heroine but he can’t have her
- hero who has a hidden agenda
- heroine who has a crush on the hero
- hero who fails to put the heroine first, then makes a grand gesture to apologize.
The chick lit vibes are:
- heroine has a bff that shares everything with her. They help each other, always.
- heroine that is not a doormat and dumps the hero when he disappoints her.
So, the plot is kind of not original but it was good.
The hero has an insta lust bar love for the heroine when he first meets her, but she’s his boss daughter and the boss forbids him from dating her. So he becomes a jerk to keep her distant.
For one year he secretly pines for her, while she tries to avoid him because he’s nasty.
Then his boss asks him to look after her since he and his wife are leaving and they will leave their company to him provided he won’t be romantically involved with her.
Of course they get involved.
The hero has a nasty dad and a hoe stepmother that could really use a beating, and to avoid that his dad buys his company just to spite him and becomes his boss, he signs a contract where he won’t be romantically involved with the heroine.
When the heroine finds out, she leave him and she leaves town.
The heroine finds didn’t want to give her up, he planned to find a loophole in the contact so he could have the company and the heroine, but the heroine won’t have his excuses.
So he dumps the company and pines for her until she comes back.
What I didn’t like.
The hero is anyway a prejudiced and conceited azz, he believes her father when he says that the heroine is unable to fend for herself while she’s completely independent and has even bought her own house.
He’s really nasty and it wasn’t necessary even if he wanted to keep her at a distance. He’s really rude.
But we know he is only dong this because he can’t resist her if she’s near.
He also acts like a complete jerk when he signs the contact even if I can see the trauma he had with his father.
In the end the heroine won’t completely forgive her father, who was controlling and borderline abusive, and will forgive the hero after some weeks where he will pine, drink and pine again.
What I liked.
Very angsty in some parts, because the heroine is not a complete doormat and eventually is ready to leave forever the hero and the town.
The hero has been celibate since he met the heroine.
This author is one of the best in this matter.
She’s not one of those who write heroes who pretend to be in love with the heroine while having sex with everything that moves.
So, no double standards here. He’s instantly attracted to her and since then, even if he doesn’t think he can have her, he’s celibate.
This shows he cares more than everything else.
I don’t know why authors can’t understand that if a man says it’s always been you and he has sex with other women his actions nullify his words.
If you say it’s only you, that only means there are no other people.
Easy, but apparently authors can’t get it through their head.
So, three celibate and committed stars and very entertaining reading for me.
