This book offered espeially for The Year of the Eucharist is a collection of fascinating true stories about the Eucharist written by priests, religious and lay people around the world. The stories are contemporary, alive and full of the warmth and joy of people who have been touched by the presence of God in the Eucharist. Powerful quotes taken from Pope John Paul's Encyclical on the Eucharist are placed after every couple of stories with the full encyclical included in the appendix. Four teachings on the Eucharist are included by four popular Catholic writers, including one by Thomas Bokenkotter, author of the very popular Concise History of the Catholic Church . A 52 page Communion Prayer section by the now deceased but very holy Father Lawrence G. Lovaskik, DVM offers prayers, meditations and inspirational quotes, poems and the text from famous Eucharistic hymns. A complete 15 page 'General Index' and a four page 'Index of Authors' by location makes the book a perfect reference for study and sermon material as well.
As part of my Lenten observances, I am only reading Catholic themed non-fiction books. I found this book to be extremely uplifting. The short stories of devotion to the true Body and Blood of Christ were inspiring and heartfelt. I feel my faith has increased in the last ten days and look forward to drawing closer to Jesus Christ.
