I'm caught between the devil and the deep blue serial killer…
Well, he’s more green than blue. He’s also a lizard maniac determined to take over all of Hell. And with Taj fatally wounded, X kidnapped, and Dev so weak he’s in a coma, I’m more than caught. I’m falling apart—and so are Ark and Joseph.
Eidolon won’t stop until he’s all-powerful, and he’s holding my mate as leverage to make me do his dirty work. If I don’t hand over a deadly relic, he’ll kill X. If I do, he’ll be unstoppable. There’s no way to win this violent game of cat and mouse.
If I want to end him once and for all—and make sure he stays dead this time—I’ll have to risk everything. My sanity. My magic. My mates. And I’m not sure I can pay that price.
Just think of cocktails on a private island when all this is over, Avie. Just think of cocktails.
Sugar Rush is a paranormal romance with psycho men, a badass FMC, twisted romance, and lots and lots of bloodlust. Demon criminals, a dark syndicate, a godlike hunter, and depraved, evil pasts fill these pages, but none of them are as deadly as Aveline Lachesi.
Leigh Kelsey is the author of romance and reverse harem books for anyone with a soft spot for steely women and the tortured men who love them. No matter what stories she's writing - vampires or shifters or bad boys - they all share a common thread of love, heart, and action. She is the author of the Lili Kazana series, the Moonlight Inn series, the Dead Space stand alone, and the Blacktower Prison for Supernaturals series, plus many more books.
4.4 stars. Ok. I liked it. That ending? Hilarious. And pretty dang cute, too.
But. I had a couple issues with the book overall. Really with the series, overall. First off. The second and third book were Mainly action and fighting scenes, and I’m just not super interested in those. I started to skim over some parts in this book. My eyes just won’t stay focused when there’s so much fighting happening.
And then, the biggest issue I had. Her relationship with the devil wasn’t given equal ‘screen’ time as the rest of the guys. We never got sex with him. We never got more than that one scene at the beginning involving a very unique oral…situation.😂
I just really liked their dynamic, but I wanted the sexy times that went with it.
This whole book only had like 1 spicy scene, the rest was fighting and action scenes.
So I don’t know. I liked the series. I mean I finished it and it’s a trilogy, which I notoriously DNF halfway through the second book, so I’d call that a success. But I really wanted a couple things it just Didn’t give me, so it wasn’t my favorite. 🤷🏻♀️
The story is a little all over the place, but so is the FMC. It's part of her charm.
Avie went through a lot, and the past torture, as well as the current near losses, are heavy reading, but offset by her inner monologue... which I relate to and makes me wonder if I should seek help 🤔 Anyways 😅 .....in this book, it's more about defending her found family while defeating her abuser family. it's full on in action and power, less smut.
We are with the characters and athough they are demons and have immese power, they have emotional triggers and it's refreshing to not just have a kill all no reaction characters. But we see the harm of trauma, each of them have faced. The panic attacks, flashbacks, the self-loathing, and suicidal events. It's all there and part of the drama and storyline.
I liked the book and series more for the dynamic between the characters, although I like Avie had an ick about the whole mated to a father and his son. She said it well, I mean...the kids would be half brothers and grandchild....and while other books can explain it away with the whole we are millions of years old and kind of not the same relation wise as human relationship are bound to. I wholeheartedly enjoyed our FMC addressing the devil elephant in the room on that part. But! Still, I kinda wanted more moments with Dev and Avie. They didn't have their smut moment 😔. Oh well, it speaks volumes that I wanted more and all that, and it shows how invested I was in the characters.
In the end, it was a HEA, and it was crazy cute like the character....and that ending! 🤣🤣🤣
Two of our girls’ soulmates are in the hospital struggling, one has been taken, the third is trying to sort everything out and she feels alone. It got better, it got worse, got better and then it all imploded 🤯 I love Leigh’s writing, I scoff at the footnotes, the blood thirsty heroine is just 😗 chefs kiss.
If you want something a little different from the norm, but want that gore, murder, serial killer, RH/why choose and all the rest Leigh manages to fill her stories with then this series is for you. (Not on commission 😔)
3.5 stars: An epic battle for vengeance, one that has been long time coming. I did like the last book in the series, but somehow I slightly caught myself drifting away from the story. The FMC is super sweet when it comes to her loved ones, but when darkness befalls on them, be prepared as this sweet lady will become your worst nightmare. All in all, this will definitely be one of the most insane stories that I have read, but I did find the characters entertaining and plot engaging.
Series review Rating: 3.9 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice: 3/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Tropes: insane, killer FMC, obsessive FMC, slight bully with one of her harem, degradation with one of her harem, RH, demons
The author writes insane FMC and sometimes the books don’t make sense. But the sex is hot. I liked it but almost DNF halfway through. Not my favorite but a silly little read.
I'm clearly over rating it. It was all over the place and there are many plot holes (the worst ones being that characters constantly appears out of nowhere when they should have been unreachable) But the voice of the FMC is SO MUCH FUN! And the footnotes! I loved it!
I am so sad that it's over. I am going to miss this crazy serial killer and her circle. This book was such a good ending to the series. I am so glad that the slimey green lizard got dealt with. The footnotes were so funny. The only thing that would have made this series better would be if there were multi povs. I'm glad I gave it a go and was not disappointed.
HAHAHAHAHA THE END HAS ME DYING THE “noooooooo” is bloody brilliant 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Ahhh I’m so happy I got to finish this it was well needed and FUCKING SCARED ME FOR A MINUTE THERE ALSO YA SHITE but all is okay in the world of fuckery
When I started this series I reviewed book 1. I didn't like it. The writing isn't bad, but I didn't like the whole serial killer comedy idea. I didn't review book 2, but it was a little better as the plot led to hell, and demons dying didn't bother me. Book 3 just seemed to drag on eternally. Avie turns into this whining, crying, pouting girl who can't get herself together. I honestly didn't get why she changed so much. Mates or no mates, her inner strength shouldn't have been affected. Also, we are repeatedly told throughout the series that she was kidnapped at the age of 11 and he tortured her and trained her to be a serial killer. Why did she fall apart and have PTSD after the most recent kidnapping and torture session? Something happens with her mates too, but I won't ruin the story for you. She fell completely apart and couldn't function, started having panic attacks....it just didn't make sense. The other thing I didn't get, and I feel like the author doesn't really explain how it's possible, is how Eidilon (or however you spell it) gets all that power. I got that he was more powerful with the crown, but how was he more powerful than the devil and his most powerful demons before that? Where did the power come from? Compulsion, necromancy, magical barriers, siphoning Avie's power, etc. He didn't have those powers before, on earth. We could assume he injected himself with enough demon blood that he inherited the powers that way. However, if that was possible, then wouldn't it have happened before with other demons? Why was Eidilon able to out power the devil regardless of anything he injected himself with? It was just weird that he could over power multiple strong demons.
Overall, the story line was ok. It wasn't my cup of tea, but that's not because the writing is bad. I just didn't really care for the story line. I rarely found it amusing, even though I think it's supposed to be comical.
To start there are going to be spoilers. That’s it this will be the only warning.
So what drew me to this series was the killers part aka the fmc is a serial killer trained to be one since she was a kid. Suppose to be legendary and badass and she was occasionally but we see very little of these honed skills and most just snark or are told. Let me see psychotic murder and read the viciousness 10/10 approve for it.
I truly figured for RH the mmcs have more of a point then occasional smutty scenes and minor fighting at like the very end. They mostly existed to show love wasn’t bad and give the fmc a family she was denied which fine but don’t make them all badass then all of them getting their asses handed to them basically by one villian two cronies who should have been much weaker than all them but especially combined.
The villian was just to much not in a good way. Always had the upper hand, unbelievably powerful and seemingly impossible to kill. Every battle with this guy kicked their asses even when the fmc is powered up full. The way he was written there should have been no defeat and frankly reading the battles went from yes to tedious I liked that it was no three paragraph fight but come on no matter what they did or how they injured him he didn’t tire, weaken nothing and they literally magically figure it out barely 🙄🙄🙄
Honestly, would have preferred it if they’d killed villian book one- made for a good get to know you trial by fire, book two could have been trying to get back to Hell from being exiled, book three could have been finding their place in hell and how to continue their favorite past time as serial killers with their new leader duties hell explorations. It would have been more fun than chasing failing until the literal last pages of the final book stuttering character growth and climax.
Anyways three star for slightly stabby fmc, snark, and decent random murders and parts of fight scenes. With refinement these could be amazing.
Tropes: Serial Killers Reverse Harem Psychos Fated Mates Enemies to Lovers Bad@ss Killer FMC Demons/Fantasy
Ratings: Book 1 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎤🎤🎤🎤 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Book 2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🎤🎤🎤🎤 🌶️🌶️
Book 3 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎤🎤🎤🎤 🌶️🌶️
Review: Book 1 OK, wow so this wasn’t what I was expecting. Yes, the FMC is a killer and so are the men, but it is so funny. The female doesn’t mind killing people but when it comes to soft, fluffy things and animals, she’s like a little girl which I absolutely loved and was literally laughing out loud to this whole book. There was no Insta-love for the FMC, but definitely for 3 out of the 4 men. Im going to read the second one now! Loving this series so far.
Book 2 Now this one was more action packed! What a world wind. So she goes to he🏒🏒 like the real live place. So just making sure you are aware. She helps the devil from people trying to take his crown so he’s trying to keep it. I’m not going to say anymore because I’m scared of spoilers but I’m definitely going on to the next one right now. I’m hooked!
Book 3 Ok so another wow. This fight with either enemy was intense and felt really realistic in the fantasy world. It took a long time and a lot of planning and working together, It was awesome. But it was a little bit long for me. The season as a whole was just fantastic. If you like an unhinged group of people that all love each other (no mm) with a fantasy spin. Then I would definitely recommend this series.
1.5 ⭐️ I would’ve been less mad at the author for leaving the series unfinished on that cliffhanger in book two, rather than building it up to this fluff fest of nothing.
It’s all angsty emotional messes and running around on pointless excursions that genuinely lead nowhere and contain no detail about how they return. ???
Even the spice is bland. I went and made a snack mid-orgy. Nachos, if you were wondering.
She’s got a guy with two peens and we only get one actual detailed scene in the first book about what he does with them? Why do you hate us?
They spend a little over three ENTIRE chapters fighting with her over wanting to go off and fight the bad guy alone. By the time they were done, I was surprised the crisis wasn’t over due to impatient adversaries.
It’s 60% in before any real plans are made. My nacho ingredient arrangement was more strategic.
The battle was written like the author had practiced it in her backyard and transcribed what she vaguely recalled through her ensuing concussion.
There’s no fluidity or sense when silliness is apparently paramount.
The ending and epilogues are as upsetting as the rest. Snippets and recollections of moments we would’ve preferred experiencing rather than the drawn out battle scenes that I ended up skimming due to needless redundancy and deux ex machina difficulties, to no end other than (you guessed it) silliness.
I’m truly disappointed. The first and second books weren’t perfect, but they also weren’t insulting wastes of our time.
It led up a a worthy ending. I enjoyed reading how the female lead character was super sassy, had a love of cotton candy, loved her mates with a passion, and they her. It was still a bit weird, there was a father and son in her harem but they didn’t make it weird which was a good thing. Taj Finally let up on his harda$$ ways with her and actually gave her a piggy back, never would have guessed he would have done that since reading about his introduction in the first book. What I didn’t like, they all acted she was this bada$$ super powerful character but when lush come to shove, she failed them time and time again. Her father, always somehow outsmarted her and trapped them all several times in the book. The positive of it, they always seemed to get out of it, half dead or not, they got out and kept going back for more. I did feel the same situation Kept happening, her dad trapping them and almost killing her mates, it got old in this book, really quickly. I wish the dogs had more of a presence in this book. So glad that Eileen got recused and fixed, her mates truly love her and she deserves it all.
*RH *PNR *FMC-POV *demons *Vengeance storyline *abused FMC *soulmates *established(ish) harem (5) *fast burn 🔥 *3/3 Epic ending! Awww this is everything you could want for Avie and her circle! 😍 Ok don’t get me wrong she certainly gets put through the ringer with the kidnappings, near death experiences and separation all of which occur to her mates 😞 a general theme throughout this book, and oh gosh that one right at the end 😢 As always Avie tries to deal with it all in her usual crazy manner and talking to herself, honestly gets you chuckling to yourself! Thankfully she makes some killer new friends in this book to lend a hand when her men re down and out 😆 The emotions between Avie and her men are just 🥰🥰 she’s gives them snark but the love they have for her is undeniable and they each show it entirely differently! The quest to find the relics and bring down Eidolan once and for all consumes Avie, can they put a stop to him before they all lose something they’re not willing to give 😬 LOVED the epilogues! Sad to say goodbye to this trilogy!
"Sugar Rush" is the final book in the "Killers and Kings" series, and once again it's a crazy ride from start to finish. This final book is high on emotions, suspense and the build-up to an epic action-filled end scene, and I enjoyed every word of it.
I believe this series is one of the few where I never truly minded the fact that it's almost entirely single POV. Honestly: Avie's mind is too fascinating to ever want to leave it again. It's hard to explain how her words truly make me feel, but it's beautiful to gradually watch her heal from her past and still remain the crazy girl she is. Even though she started off on the wrong foot with most of her mates, the connections they ultimately form are beautiful and a little weird at times, just like Avie herself.
Besides some wonderful characters, I truly loved the worldbuilding in this series and this author's view on hell and its inhabitants. It made me really happy to see there will be a spin-off series in the future, and I can't wait to find out more about this!
Something I dislike about some books is that there's a villain, possibly with an army, and the whole thing comes down to one battle. The catch? It takes about three books to get to that point, and then it's over within two pages. A bit underwhelming, if you ask me. This one was a LOT longer. Maaaaybe a bit on the top long side of things, but it was more realistic. If, you know, demons fighting and someone trying to claim hell as his own was realistic.
Everything was wrapped up in this book. Avie learns love isn't all pain, her mates are all there for her, the villain is dealt with, we learn who the bad guys really were (and who weren't), and then some.
My only disappointment was that one or two of the harem never actually had scenes of "being intimate" with our FMC! They had moments of doing stuff in previous books, but not "steamier" scenes like the others had.
Oh well! I've been recommending this series even before finishing it, and I'll continue to do so now that I have! :)
I honestly adored this series. There was a scene in the first book that I struggled with, due to its brutality, but that’s a personal preference thing. And I don’t think I’d change anything else about the series.
I expected something punchy and shallow (I’m not bashing punchy and shallow - sometimes that’s exactly what I want to read!), from the covers and the titles, but this is literally why they always say, “don’t judge a book by its cover.” The character growth for ALL the characters in this series is so deep and brilliantly executed. I feel like I went on an epic journey - like Leigh Kelsey was whispered a story in her dreams and she just HAD to get it out on paper. That’s always how I determine the difference between a good book and a GREAT book: is the author writing the story, or are they merely the conduit for a story that must be told? Leigh Kelsey was a conduit, and if she didn’t end up wrecked and in tears, just like Avie, at times, I’d be astonished.
Well done. A read I will happily revisit someday. ❤️
Ultimately, this series was not for me. Just not my style, I think.
Book 1 gets three stars because it was funny enough to make me want to read it, but I feel like I was just lacking so much depth in the plot and backstory in the following two books that they have to get 2 stars.
Our FMC is absolutely unhinged in a way that's fun for me, although in a three book series it can start to get a little dry and repetitive. I also loved the Devil, but that's nothing new for me.
I also cannot get past book 1 being released in 2022 and the clothing descriptions. I know our FMC is a little out there, but that does not excuse the crimes against fashion that take place. We're not doing galaxy leggings in 2022. We're just not. Make her quirky fashion show in a cooler way, I beg of you.
Daddy Dev can melt my heart any day of the week! War is here, but Av is going insane(more🤣) Taj and Dev badly hurt, X kidnaped and only Ark to hold Av's sanity together, is a very perilous situation, so many things to do but so much despair for her mates. When things start looking up, everything goes to shit again and again and again, but Insanity and sheer hope keeps them going. Can we please talk at how weird but not weird it is that Av's is mated with the devil and the devils son? Completely crazy, but at the same time nobody gives a shit and I love it so much. As you may expect this book is a little less spicy than the other ones, you know, with all the war and despair going on. 2.5🌶️/5 I'm still thinking about Av riding Dev's tongue on the second book 🙈
Entertaining. I don't mind the footnotes for the most part. There were a few that seemed out of placed and felt forced.
My biggest gripe is with the third book and the FMC suddenly being too traumatised to function, X falls is included in this gripe too at the end, and her excessive crying. It felt like there was no transition. She went from this badass, murdery, confident, comical character to a crying, broken, self-doubting mess. Even at the end when she's the key to saving the day she's still has no confidence in herself and is quick to give up and embrace death; it's such a 180 from the other two books the it damn near ruined it all for me which is why I gave two stars.
i honestly don’t feel like putting in the time and effort to review each book individually. another tiktok book, highly disappointed. while the smut gave the books 1 star more than they should’ve gotten, the plot was so like bad??? the amount of plot holes was insane. also, the transitions between scenes were not smooth and i’m pretty sure i was confused throughout more than half of my journey reading these books. they were entertaining in a way where i was like “it honestly can’t get worse than this.” did i read all 3? yes. should i have? no. but sometimes we all need a good, bad book once in a while. will not read again. yikers. BUT to each their own.
I really liked this series. It was sexy violent and funny. It is the type of series where the writing has plot pace and world building detail to keep you engaged but not so much of it you need spreadsheets and ven diagrams to keep all the information in order. I loved how Avie was vicious and strong and fierce but had her own code and was able to heal and grow into who she is as well as her mates. The lore of hell and the devil was excellent and I will forever lament not being able to ride the tongue of a 20 foot sexy demon. I will be adding a good number of the other series both part of this world and not to my tbr.
Kindle. The further in the series I got the more the conflict resolution went in complete circles. The storyline became more repetitive and redundant by the end it still seemed never ending. It lost my interest, the plot line seemed cluttered and all over the place. Transitions were on the weaker side. Relationship development stopped, focusing on conflict resolutions that continuously dragged. I struggled to finish this book really losing all my attention and will to finish. I definitely enjoyed the first book the most. Overall it was an alright read, mindless and humor based. While the FMC was unhinged and fun it wasn’t enough to keep my interest or enjoyment in the story itself.
There are some aspects of this book that really feel like they were taken from another book by a different author. Maybe it's a coincidence, but it seems a little too similar to be a coincidence. The way the relics behaved was very similar to the way the throne of hell / hell dimension in a different book was sentient.
I'll be real with you I skipped most of the beginning part of his book. This fight was with the same villain the whole time and didn't need to be three books in my opinion. Complaints aside I did enjoy these books a lot overall and I still recommend them. I also am a big fan of epilogues and this book satisfied that.
Aveline claims she's some bad ass but she literally sucks at her job. She is paralyzed in fear and fails most of the time. Idk if the author knew what they were doing. Aveline's attitude sucks. Her killing skills suck. She is written as this accomplished, bad ass serial killer who is ruthless, but she honestly sucks so bad and everyone including her suffers. There is no redeeming how awful she is at her job. The author wrote a confusing and twisty turney story that doesn't make sense. It sucks.
Over 400 pages of pure shit. I felt like I was going to crack a tooth with how awful these characters were and the terrible decisions they made.
Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better…Leigh Kelsey proves me wrong.. Avie and her snarky humor, her sense of self belief and her ultimate commitment to her men took me on an adventure that I literally spent hours committed to this final book in the series.
This is a MUST read ! If you enjoy FMC’s who are perfectly imperfect and strong yet still struggling to find all her missing pieces…then this is the series for you! Download this book…you will be soooo happy you did!
I inhaled this series. I could not get enough! It made me laugh, broke my heart and then stitched it back together again!
I cannot wait to read more of your books but feel like nothing is going to touch the perfection that this series is. I love my girls dark, twisted and murdery! Lol. I also love the dynamic of these men and their queen.
Perfect amount of spice, dark humour and story for me!
I may just have to read them all over again just to re-experience this feeling.
