Kanji Name: 小野 不由美.

Fuyumi Ono (小野 不由美, Ono Fuyumi) is a Japanese novelist who is best known for writing the Twelve Kingdoms (十二国記, Juuni Kokuki) series, on which a popular anime is based. Her name after marriage is Fuyumi Uchida (内田不由美, Uchida Fuyumi), but she writes under her maiden name.

Ono was born in Nakatsu, Ōita, Kyūshū in 1960. She graduated from Ōtani University in Kyōto with a degree in Buddhist Studies, and in 1988 was employed by the publisher Kōdansha. Her debut story is titled Sleepless on Birthday Eve.

Ono is married to Naoyuki Uchida (内田直行, Uchida Naoyuki), a mystery novelist who writes under the pseudonym Yukito Ayatsuji (綾辻行人 , Ayatsuji Yukito).

Before she started work on Twelve Kingdoms, Fuyumi Ono wrote The Demonic Child (魔性の子), a horror novel about a boy from another world. She later worked certain events from this novel into the Twelve Kingdoms series. Short stories set in the various kingdoms include: Kasho, Toei, Shokan, Kizan and Jogetsu. In February, 2008, the first new Twelve Kingdoms short story, Hisho no Tori (丕緒の鳥) was published in Shinchosha's Yomyom magazine.

According to an interview at the Anime News Network, she is "currently rewriting a girls' horror series (she) wrote long ago."

Tho categorized as horror, it's a cute story. Nothing much of scary element except for the mystery surrounding the haunting. The cover tho...it's quite 'old school' 😹

First: If you've watched Ghost Hunt anime / read manga, there's NO NEED to read this book.

Second: It was my first experience of "ligh novel".
The version I read was a japanese -> chinese -> english one, with some tense-shifting verbs. Anyway, It was fluently translated and easy to read.
The story was about 90% the same as manga and anime version, though character's behavior was slightly different.
Naru was so rude - compared to manga and anime - and he wasn't that much quiet. It seemed like he "could" actually smile, but not a gentle and warm one.
Kuroda was also more extraverted and she had more arguments with everyone - she was almost as rude as Naru.
Unlike anime and manga, John was just an immature exorcist. As Bou-san stated in vol 11 of manga, he doesn't seem to be a real exorcist.
Masako was a little bit more rude and blunt. I didn't like her even in anime, but now I just dislike her more :D Her personality is similar to Naru, maybe he can get along better with her in future ;D

Generally, "light novel" wasn't as enjoyable as I thougth, but I liked it. I'm going to start reading the next volume - because I haven't found the english translation of other volumes yet. I wish I could read japanese :/

I really liked the part where they went "Wow! there really are alot of evil spirits!" and then they like, "Dont call me a evil spirit!" and then they went "I dont mind evil spirits 1" so the evil spirit went "I dont mind evil spirits 2"

I really liked this book! The interactions of the characters are amusing, as are the characters themselves. I like the variation in their personalities! I also think the narrator has an interesting narration style, so I enjoy that too. (Not to mention I love a good ghost story!)
