Rate this book
Magic in this witch's family has a name: Trouble.

With her biggest clue now in hand, Sidney must use it to find the person who murdered her ex-boyfriend. But this requires skillful sleuthing and Ada-Mae’s special potion to cover their tracks. What surprise will her grandmother pull from her magical shawl this time? And will it protect them or bring more trouble for these quirky witches?

And that’s not all of Sidney’s problems. When her mother falls head-over-heels for a shady realtor, Sidney smells a snake in the sand dunes. Well, make it two if you count the magic hold Officer Reece’s deputy has over him. Sidney will have to deal with them both if she wants to break the love hexes before it’s too late.

As dark stormy clouds descend over this small town, a sinister plan is hatched by the murderer and Sidney looks for the ghost of her grandfather to guide her. But where is he when she needs him? And what about Mojo—what’s caught this cat’s tongue? Can Sidney stir up her own magical spell in time to save her family and put the murderer behind bars?

Raised in the Arkansas River Valley, Karen McSpade grew up with a fishing pole in one hand and her trusty .410 shotgun in the other. Exploring the creeks and woods around her hometown while hunting with her father kept her “entertained and out of jail,” as her mom likes to say.

As a child, her most prized possessions were her books and her Michael Jackson album collection. These led her to a brief venture into breakdancing and poetry slamming before discovering her true passion, bringing stories and characters to life. Today, she focuses on the two things that still inspire her creativity—her love for food and dishing up mysteries with a dash of humor.

Karen’s novels feature compassionate and strong-willed leading ladies determined to uncover the truth and seek justice. She loves creating stories filled with mystery, romance, magic, and adventure that allow readers to join her characters on their journey, leaving behind the real world for a few hours at a time.

When she’s not writing, Karen’s favorite things are spending time with family, traveling, cooking, reading, gardening, and enjoying nature. She lives in Northwest Arkansas with her family and a very spoiled Wheaten Terrier who doubles as her writing assistant.

Cliffhanger of a mystery

What surprise will her grandmother pull from her magical shawl this time? And will it protect them or bring more trouble for these quirky witches?
Once again this is a cliffhanger of a mystery. The culprit hasn't been caught. The problem is that a deputy is attracted to the heroine.

less than honest realtor while Officer

Still Looking for Clues . . .

Sidney Grace has recently acquired magical powers she is still perfecting. One of her skills is being able to see and talk to ghosts and telepathically to her cat, Mojo! But those skills don’t seem to be working right now. Sidney is trying to find out who murdered her ex-boyfriend, Ben Chalmers. Sidney’s grandmother, Ada-Mae, can provide a special sort of invisibility-type potion to cover their sleuthing tracks, but would it protect them? The way it worked made anyone who sees them and is close enough to smell the potion will forget that they did – but it didn’t really make them invisible, which would have a better way to hide.

Sidney is also dealing with her mother who has allegedly fallen for a dishonest realtor, Sam Barlow, and it’s creeping Sidney out. She needs to find out what is going on and stop things before the unthinkable happens. She is thinking her mother must be under a magical spell. And she already discovered what Sam Barlow has been up to. Likewise, Sidney had seen Officer John Reece hugging Deputy Jessie. Could she be using magic on him? Or has she misinterpreted something? Will the love hexes become permanent? Or can Sidney find a way to break them before that could happen? When Sidney, Ernie, and Ada-Mae went to report things they had learned, Officer Reece got called to a fire and the three of them joined him so they could tell him their news on the way. It was a false alarm, but when they returned something was wrong at the station. John told them to stay in the vehicle while he went inside to see why the light on the CCTV was out. So of course, Sidney sneaked out of the car and followed him. Deputy Jessie was unconscious on the floor. Sidney looked toward the cells, saw one was open, and saw a dead body on the bed!

With Mojo, her cat, not talking to her for some reason, and her inability to find her ghostly Gramps to seek his help, can Sidney continue to track down the killer on her own and maybe the magic-wielder? Is it the same person? And can she find a way to keep her family safe and get the killer locked up permanently?

Author Karen McSpade continues to weave her magic with A Meowing Suspicion. This whole series is so charming and magical that I feel as if I am under a spell of a wonderful paranormal cozy . Karen is certainly gifted with the ability to weave spectacular magic with the words.

In the previous book, Feline Like A Suspect, I mentioned the changes in Sidney's Mom, Julia Mae who seems to be doing well in the 'Ben Chalmers Mini-Golf Invitational Tournament." Sidney feels that her mom has been acting weird, more, like she is under the influence of a spell cast by the wily, Sam Barlow. Later, Ben's ghost prompts her to follow him at night to the Beach where she is shocked to find Eduardo Fitch and Shirley Yao in a secret meeting. She stays hidden and overhears their conversation. They are trying to use unfair means by planting devices on the hole meant for the golf.

The story continues now with Sidney entering the area where Ben's ghost and her Grandfather had repeatedly urged her to look for. She's shocked to retrieve a Flash drive. She thinks, probably, this is why Ben was killed. She's unable to find out more as she's unable to enter the correct password.

Sidney needs her granny's help to crack the password. When she's on the way to meet her grandma, a strange sight greets her. A tall beefy man, is handing an envelope to Judd, a former astronaut, and Ernie's friend. Sidney finds it highly suspicious because Judd tries to hide it when Ernie turns up. What secret could Judd be hiding?
Can Sidney and her granny discover the truth behind Ben's Murder and find out what was in the flash drive?

This fantastic book will be available on Amazon on 21st February, 2023. Please do not miss it because things are getting hotter in The Crystal Beach Paranormal Cozy mysteries . I thank Karen for this highly entertaining book and am leaving an honest review in its exchange.

Magic, Witches, and Ghosts!

by Barbara Kelley

A Meowing Suspicion is Book 4 of A Crystal Beach Paranormal Cozy Mystery series, written by Karen McSpade. This is a funny, yet tragic and haunting continuation series about a young witch and her growing magical abilities of seeing and helping ghosts, both human and animal, telepathically talking to her oldest cat, Mojo, while he complains about the uselessness of the other three family cats, and receiving help from her deceased grandfather's ghost and her high school ex-boyfriend, Ben Chalmers, who was recently murdered. Sidney also finds out some unexpected news about Deputy Jessie, the pretty, girl next door type who Sidney thinks is interested in Sheriff John Reece. Only, it is not the sheriff she really, really likes. You might be surprised who Miss Jessie is really interested in. Then, another mystery has to do with how Sidney's mother has never played golf, but is suddenly leading in the mini-golf tournament, and what magical shady shenanigans the real estate developer, Sam Barlow, is using on Julia Mae. This episode has Sidney, Ada Mae, and Ada Mae's friend, Ernie, from the retirement village, getting all up in everyone else's business, while they try to find out who murdered Ben Chalmers, and still also trying to keep the murderer from killing them. We see something of Ben's past the day he and his parents left their hometown, and the parents died in a suspicious car crash on their way to their new home. It is setting it up to look like they were part of the Witness Protection Program. There is a flash disk that Sidney has found that may be connected to why Ben was murdered. And, of course, there is another dead body by the end of episode 4. I can hardly wait to read the finale episode at the end of February. I gave this episode a 5 star rating. I'm a member of an ARC team..

In the fourth episode of Crystal Beach Magic Mysteries we have Sidney discovering an important clue on the golf course and trying to figure out where it lies in the big picture. She's also worried about her mother and her new relationship with a shady realtor. She can't go to Detective Reece with her information yet, and so she sets off to talk with Ada-Mae about what she's found. It leads them to try and find even more information, and Sidney also discovers something that rattles her. None of it is making sense, although she is becoming more comfortable with her new powers. Not so much, though, with her cat Mojo speaking to her. It seems he does so on his own terms (as all cats do). . .

I enjoyed this episode more than the last, and that's a good thing, as I enjoyed the last one immensely. Sidney and her grandmother Ada-Mae are digging deeper into Ben's death and the reason why, and they're finally coming up with answers. But as I stated above, neither of them are happy about Sidney's mother's current arrangements, but can't figure out what to do, as Ada-Mae is reluctant to use her own magic in fear of the repercussions.

Yet they, along with Ada-Mae's friend Ernie, plow forward in their quest for the truth, and it could bring them closer to danger. Alas, the story ends before we can put everything together (although it does give us a couple of clues), and we can only wait for the conclusion in the next one. I will add that I rarely read stories about witches, but this one had me riveted from beginning to end. Highly recommended.

I was given an advance copy of this from the author and BookSprout but this in no way influenced my review.

The latest installment in this series finds Sidney chasing down a lead and also involving her grandmother and her friend to investigate a person of questionable character and his real motives regarding Sidney’s mother!

This is a really fun cozy mystery which reads like the old Saturday morning serials that movie theaters used to show back in the late ‘50’s and early ‘60’s where the story went so far and then was continued the following week.

You must get the entire series to enjoy this caper! There is one more book left and then the whole series will probably be coming out in a box set so if you haven’t gotten any books yet, you just may want to wait and get that box set instead since the final book will be coming out shortly. The plus also is that the entire series will be together so you can go from one book to the next by just turning the page!

These books are quick reads that you can read in an hour or two so the whole series can be read in a day if you have no interruptions. They are quick, witty, fun and layered throughout is the plot of who killed an ex boyfriend of Sidney’s and what or who is controlling Sidney’s mom! Thus the need to read the entire series to get the answers to those questions!

I heartily recommend this series to everyone who loves cozy mysteries and I foresee another case in the future where Sidney once again will probably need to call on her grandmother for help in solving
another murder mystery and maybe she’ll even start dating the hunky policeman this time!

We are a little bit closer to knowing the truth to the mystery that has been running throughout this series and with on more book to go not long now. This is book four and I would recommend that you read all the books in the series to get the full picture, in other words there was a murder in book two and we are still waiting for the killer to be revealed. The stories are only novellas (hence the four star review- if it had been a single book it would probably have got five stars but I don't like waiting). Yes the author has left it on a cliff hanger yet again. Otherwise I enjoyed it. The characters are unusual and quirky enough to keep me returning and also I want to know who the killer is.
After the ghost lead her to the biggest clue to solving her ex boyfriends murder, Sidney has to work out what it all means and if her mother real is under a love spell. Can Sidney and her octogenarian Grandmother use there special skills to piece the clues together or is the killer getting closer to them?

This episode has the mini-golf competition, which is extremely competitive in full swing with Sydney's mother, Julia-Mae, and grandmother, Ada-Mae mysteriously in the lead. Could it be magic? And when Sydney's ex-boyfriend is murdered, she feels she has to find out who killed him. When Sydney finds a hidden flash drive in the fifth hole, led there by Mojo, she knows it must be about the find. With the help of Mojo and the ghosts of her grandfather and ex-boyfriend, and her grandmother's magic, she is bound to investigating the murder. And what's this about Julia-Mae finding a strange romance with the sleazy realtor Sam. And what's going on with Detective Reese? What is going on? And then there is a second murder. Can Sydney find the murder before the competition continues? I love the characters and the laughs and guesses, the end surprises you and leaves you with wanting the next book! I received and ARC of this book but the opinions here are strictly my own.

A MEOWING SUSPICION is the fourth installment in the Crystal Beach Magic Mystery Series by Karen McSpade; a witchy paranormal cozy mystery. This is an engaging and fun short story with quirky characters, and a  beautiful beach setting with an ending that leaves you wanting to know what happens next.

Since Sidney Grace moved to Florida she's learned magic is real and so are ghosts. Between her quirky grandmother and the ghost, it seems like there is one murder after another.

Sydney is investigating who killed Ben Chalmers and who put a spell on her mother. As if that's not enough, there's that sleazy realtor, is he a flim-flam man or maybe a murderer?  Geesh! now there's another dead body.

The only bad thing, too short with a cliffhanger.  Still, I would recommend this series to those who are fans of cozy, witchy mysteries! I did receive an advanced copy from the author. The above is my freely given and honest review.

Something is fishy in town, well actually several things, and our heroine is determined to figure out the mystery. Particularly if she wants to save her mom and the sheriff. And perhaps prevent a bigger problem. Figuring out priorities is always a problem.

This is book four of the series, but it is written as a standalone. All the essential bits are covered early on.

This is a cozy mystery with lots of different paranormal types, plus a nice bit of magic. The story is well written and easy to read with an intriguing cast of characters. The plot is solid and all the different issues keep things moving at a good pace. Overall, this continues to be a fun series and I definitely look forward to the next book.

Highly recommended.

A Meowing  Suspicion
Book four of the Crystal Beach cozy mystery series.
It seems in this book the  problems and actions of those involved are just as stormy and unpredictable as the weather!
Sydney realizes there could be more people involved then she first thought .. not only with the goings-on in Crystal beach  but with each other.. she learns way more then she wanted with her Mom's new boyfriend and also some of the other golfers and officer's in the town! Who's guilty? Who's innocent? Who's under a spell and who is behind it all? ..And discovering new clues and possible suspects throws more twists and potential past crimes into the mix! And of course through all of this don't forget the talking cat and ghosts Sydney is still dealing with, along with  working on her  witchy teachings and the local law!

This is the fourth book in this series. What I like is that the chapters are short so you can read it pretty quickly! I think you should read them in order so that you are starting at the beginning of the story and learning about Sidney and her powers and get ahold of who the main characters are in the first story that will carry out through the others! I do think that it is possible to pick up this book before the others and get somewhat of an idea of what is going on but I do suggest starting with book one! I loved the cliffhanger ending of this book and cant wait to see how the series ends with the last book. I like how I seem to sympathise with Sidney meaning when it is obvious that she doesnt really care for a certain character, I for some reason don't like that character either! I received an arc and I voluntarily reviewed it and it was my honest opinion!

⭐⭐ A Meowing Suspicion: Still Hanging Around Crystal Beach

Right then, A Meowing Suspicion by Karen McSpade—Crystal Beach #4. So, was this the book to finally put an end to all the cliffhangers? No. Not a chance.

This time, Sidney’s on the warpath, determined to go after the person who murdered Ben, her ex. Now, she seemed to have a soft spot for him, even though at their last meeting he was rather shady—literally, he was a ghost! Who knew he’d pop his clogs properly? Me, actually—just see book three.

Anyway, Mama Mae is in lurv (yes, worry), and Gran, bless her, doesn’t seem quite on her game. And then, wouldn’t you know it, we only get a few scant pages to figure out why and how, and then it’s an ohhh cliffhanger all over again!

Having a ghost help her find clues to his murder, Sidney Grace wonders if she is on the right track to find her ex-boyfriend’s killer. As she searches for clues in her friend’s death, she is also worried about her mother’s new boyfriend, who may or not be someone practicing black magic and using it on her mother. Sidney, along with help from her grandmother, Ada-Mae and from the ghosts of her grandfather and ex continues to investigate, not knowing what she will find. This is a wonderful series that I am thoroughly enjoying. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.

Things are getting very interesting at Crystal Beach
Sidney is sure there is something nefarious about her mother and Sam Barlow's relationship and finding them in matching robes does nothing to remove that feeling. After some ghostly help she finds a flash drive hidden at the minigolf course and a whole lot more about Eduardo and Shirley. She collects a great deal of information leading to more suspects and maybe even a much larger conspiracy than she originally believed. Lots of action and important discoveries leading to the conclusion in book 5.

A big clue found by Sidney on the Golf Course makes her determined to find the killer of her late boyfriend Ben. Her grandmother Ada-Mae's special potion helps to cover their tracks. They need all the protection their magic can give to protect themselves. Sidney’s problems are not over yet as her mother falls head over heels in love with a doggy realtor Sam. As a sinister plan is hatched by the murder Sidney gets the help from her grandfather who is a ghost to guide her find the evidence she needs. Her talking cat Mojo is silent this time. A great exciting finish and a surprise to the story. I am on the ARC t and I leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.

A fun series that get gets better, but be read for the cliff hanger

The Crystal Beach Magic Series is a fun series that you do not want to miss. I have been fortunate enough to get ARC copies and do not regret it. Sometimes, you wonder . . . why did I say that I would read this? Not in this series, I have even gone back and bought some of the free ones that were given to me so that I could share with my family. Talking cats, ghosts, a witch grandmother in a funky coven, in a retirement village in Florida, yes this series has all the options of fun, sometimes silly but enjoyable afternoon mysteries.

A solid three and half star book, but you can't do half stars so it gets bumped to four.

This is a continuing story of Crystal Beach mystery. They do have a bit of a cliff hanger that goes from book to book, But, there is usually a smaller mystery that is solved within the book. You could read as a standalone if you wished but you be missing some of the storyline.

The book is a fairly quick read, perfect for a short relax ,nothing too heavy.
They are fun stories with some great characters. The grandmother is a hoot. I would love to see more development of her. Maybe a longer cosy mystery with Edna-Mae as the main character!!.

Despite my dislike of cliffhangers, I found myself looking forward to this, the fourth, in the series. It means that the next book will tie the story in a big bow and bring it to an end. As a whole, I'm enjoying the characters, even though I would like them to be filled out a bit more. It's an interesting world the author has built and once all five entries are put together it should be a very nice read indeed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and this is my honest opinion of the tale.

The fourth book in the Crystal Beach mystery series was another excellent read in the cliffhanger series. The characters as always were quirky, charming and funny. Even the villains in this series have a quirky charm to them. In this installment there was one scene that really threw me for a loop. I definitely did not see it coming. Kudos to Karen McSpades deception! I would recommend this book to cozy fans who enjoy cliffhanging plot twists. Also anyone who loves magic, quirky seniors and coming of age cat loving witches with a penchant for trouble.

This is book 4 in the series. These are very short stories that in my humble opinion would have been better done as a novel. I HATE waiting to find out what is going on. And in these stories, the mystery doesn't end at the end of the novel which seems to always end just as I am starting to enjoy the story. I'll continue reading them simply because I am committed. But I truly think they should have just been published as a single book with a complete mystery and an end twist or no.

A Meowing Suspicion is book #4 in the Crystal Beach Magic Mystery series by Karen McSpade.

Sidney Grace has a clue related to the murder but she’s not sure what to do about it. Can her grandma and friends help? Can she figure out what is going on with her mother?

We’re getting more answers and more questions as we head towards the end of the series. There is a lot more to the mystery than what it originally looked like. I can’t wait to see what happens next.

A creepy realtor has convinced Sidney's mother to buy property on the first viewing ... but there's something more going on. He apparently also convinced her to be his girlfriend and to play "goofy golf" in a tournament (which she seems very good at even though she never played before). There's also a pretty police officer who Officer Reece seems to really like - but does she like him? With an ex-boyfriend's death to solve, talking cats, ghosts, and witchcraft; Sidney's may well start dropping food from her overflowing plate.

Ben and her grampa have both pointed her to the golf course and Ben particularly points to hole 5 . The hunt follows for clues to the strange magic going on and the suspected relationship that John and Jessie have much to the chagrin of Sidney ,much to the amusement of Ada Mae and the rest of the septuagenarians of shady pines . The sleuthing continues in this laugh out loud magic filled mystery . Perfect cosy read

Poor Sydney. Sam B still seems to have a magical hold on her mother, Julia Mae. The ghosts of Gramps and Ben have her go to the mini-golf course to find a secret. Ada Mae, Syd’s grandmother, is feeling down and a packet of surprises comes to the forefront. New questions come up as more information is uncovered. Keeps your attention and makes you want to read more when it s the end of the book. Very good reading!
