It's the first gender-bender manga I ever read, and I must say I made a good decision here. It's so funny. I can't stop smiling and laughing when I read it.
A lot of people have been telling me that this is an awesome series I should pick up and start reading. Since I've been low on manga books lately I decided to pick this one up.
Boy was it good! the plot is not only original but totally grabbing and made me flip maddly throught eh Mangafox manga reader. I guess I really am a manga addict after all....
So far the story and plot is open to any possiblities and I'm rather interested on what will happen next.
A great addiction to my list of read mangas because i think this is definately worth a read, for fantasy lovers, manga lovers, and even for those who enjoy sci-fi cause some of that stuff is mixed into here as well
The first 30 chapters were hilarious so I'll rate it 4 or 5 stars. The rest of the chapters though, lost its appeal. Im not sure if I just grew up and my humour changed but it didnt really worked for me.
Gender-bender is one of my favourite genres in manga, plus I've read this one, but never finished it. Well, cause it wasn't finished. Gonna enjoy it one more time to the end!
Feng Lan, a 19 year old girl, and her twin brother, Feng Yang Ming, both love to play virtural reality games. When then new game "Second Life" comes out, Feng Lan is determined to become a male warrior and proove to her brother that she's just as good as he is with out playing with the "female benifits" that are given to all female players. When Feng Lan logs on early, trying to get a head start from her brother, she is the first player to log on. The Second Life superiors grant her one wish in the game and she decides to change her gender and become a handsome elvin "prince". That starts up her adventures in Second Life.
This series is really funny and has some good plot twists and arcs. It's great for people who are into gaming and for those who aren't (it explains gaming terms well enough for non-gamers to understand). Most of the characters are orginal and likable. Sometimes I wish it spent more time out of the game but other than that I think it's great. There's some nice romance, triangles and gender confusion.
This manga was almost perfect. Let’s talk about it.
Half Prince is set in the future where everyone plays a full immersion MMORPG called “Second Life” (If you have read Ready Player One is like the oasis)
Feng Lan’s brother insists that she’ll never be a good player because she’s a girl and as such is always helped by other characters. Wanting to prove him wrong Feng Lan decides to make a male character and “Prince” is born.
The first 7 or 8 volumes follow Prince in his daily playing: He meets new friends, forms a party and goes on questing, grinding and leveling; all typical aspects of this kind of game.
However at some point during the last 20% of the volume the story come out of the virtual game into real life and takes a more sci-fi bad guy vibe which I didn’t really like. Also the ending was… meh.
Five stars for those first 8 volumes, 2 stars for the ending.
Seems there is no separate listing for the light novels on Goodreads, they are quite similar but I prefer the novels even though the manga is very charming as well. Fun and fab story, especially for those experienced with mmo's. I don't know how good of a read it would be without any experience with those types of games but I'd assume all the geek talk can be a bit much if you don't have a mind for all the references.
The light novels don't have an official translation (yet) however an independent team did translate all of the novels to English and to my understanding, is even supported by the author as long as the novels are not picked up for an official English publication. They should not be too hard to find online.
Anyway, a great recommendation if heavily game-related stories fits your palate.
This story is a chinese (i think) manhwa about a girl who plays a game called "2nd Life" where you play as someone else while you're sleeping. It basically is your "second" life. The main character is a girl, who plays as a male elf on the game, because her brother said that girls don't do anything in videogames. She wanted to prove him wrong, so she asked for a gender change for the game. This book has the perfect balance of comedy, action, romance, and technology to catch my attention! It's probably one of the best Manhwa's I've ever read!
Since I like reading about female leads more than a guy; it's good to know that there's a girl underneath her handsome-guy face.
Currently read through ch 40. I've really enjoyed this series. One of my favorites so far. So many conundrums occur in it, too. Waiting to see how it will pan out w/ Gui. Haha!
literally my favorite manga ever to drop and I can't believe I can't find it anywhere. Isekai done right, with somehow a female and male lead at the same time
I read this years ago in search of queer literature way back in my teens around 2012 or so. I have read this twice or maybe even once and it stuck in my brain. I never enjoyed a manga or story as much as i did this one and i want to reread and even buy physical copies. (But alas I can’t find anything in English unless i start learning taiwanese.) It was also my first encounter, that wasn’t Hunger Games, where the female is sought through their own merit when they literally started from nothing. The gender bending added to the story and definitely awoke a bit of my queerness in me, i would have fallen on my knees in front of them too. And most of all, the main character does it in their own style, flair and personality, had me laughing my ass off as a depressed child. The main character does not change who they are and I love and appreciate that so much because I could always see myself in her, I was also genderfluid at the time (still am but different) so there’s that too but mostly it was the goofball personality.
This is actually my second time reading through this series, but the first time after creating my Goodreads account. The first volume is a lot of traditional relationship building between recently introduced key characters, so nothing is particularly deep in this volume. However, it does do a great job of explaining how the game works and just how lucky our main character, "Prince", has gotten.
I definitely loved this series when I was younger and I'm happy to be reading through it again.
I picked this volume up on a whim without really knowing what it would be about. Nevertheless I am really glad I did! It's a thoroughly enjoyable manga about a college student challenged by her brother to pay the newest VR game without taking advantage of the perks of playing as a female. I really liked the dynamics between all the characters and loved the artwork. Definitely a series to continue!
The artwork was beautiful, the plot interesting and the characters funny, all the things I love in a manga. The story starts with the introduction of the main protagonist, Feng Lan (in some of tha translated manga online it was Xiao Lan), a teenage girl who makes a male avatar in this popular game called Second Life. At first, I was confused because in other games, you are not required to have avatars of the same gender as yourself and I'm pretty sure that females could become great warriors on thier own right and not rely on male players. However, once you ignore the incogruity with real games, these really are crucial for the plot's development, the story became really enjoyable to read.
I love the concept of an online world you can "live" in and, even though I am not a gamer myself, I was able to appreciate the features that made Second Life such a great online world. The characters were somewhat stereotypical, but very likable and amusing to read about. I kinda like the protagonist in that she was willing to take on the challenge of "living" as a boy in Second Life (even though it was dared by her brother) and try to win a game by herself. She was kind of odd/silly as well because of her wierd obsession with bishies (though that might be common with the girls in this manga) Lollidragon was a funny sidekick, bossy and silly, yet treated Feng Lan seriously enough to teach her some basics. The cast of teammates/friends they meet to form an unbeatable team were also generally silly, yet I got the feeling that they would be able to uncover hidden strengths to help Prince (as Feng Lan calls her male avatar) succeed and fulfill his goal, to become a great warrior and create a legacy.
The plot generally was pretty cliche, promising a grand adventure for the protagonist and his/her companion, though with a manga centered on an online computer game, what can you expect? As Feng Lan goes through her adventure however, I sometimes felt that her progress was accelerated; her avatar turns out to have some wicked abilities and everything from getting her sword, leveling up, meeting her companions, seemed a bit too convienient. Despite all this though, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it as the manga as a whole was pretty interesting. I find myself interested in what Feng Lan with her avatar will face and eager to get my hands on the next book.
Ok first of all because i tend to read all the volumes together i will be writing one review.
This is an amazing manga, hilarious and intriguing, great for anyone who like funny plots.
Feng Lan a college student is compelled by her twin brother to play a new realistic virtual game that has come out known as Second Life. After his taunting her that as a girl player in the game she would see no action because men will look out for her and give her what she needs, enraged she logs into to the game before her brother and asks the NPC to make her a guy.
As it is a strange request, against the rules , she is granted this wish only because she was one of the first players to log in. Now this is the part of the manga i really like. Her character is made into a male + 30% more beautiful elf a real bishie, so hot that the NPC Lolidragon is drooling in the chair. They fight over the other characteristics (details so to say, hair color, skin tone), the hot bishie elf is named Prince and soon starts his or rather her Legend.
As a newcomer to the game and a hottie she soon finds out that the girls swarm all over her. A real problem if you want to move around. As a newbie she has to team up with a group to raise her level and by letting them see her nature while killing her nickname becomes blood elf.
To move things along she soon starts making a team of her own Odd Squad: 1)Lolidragon (a female thief class who is a hidden gamemaster to Second Life. She was the gamemaster whom assisted Feng in her avatar creation.) 2)Ugly Wolf , the bestial healer and strategist of the Odd Squad. 3)Doll, a young girl who is a Necromancer. 4)Guiliastes aka Gui, the bard and long ranged attacker of the group. My favorite character besides Prince, who is madly in love with Prince and gets beat up by her every day. 5)Yu Lian, a female mage and finance management of the Odd Squad. These are just the basic team members, throughout the whole game she makes lots of friends and allies but also plenty of enemies.
Through lots of hardships and fight she has a lot of fun and gains status, soon she is a lord that everyone looks up too.
There is also mystery, a dark plot but i leave that for you readers to find out i hate spoiling the fun. Believe me you will be laughing for days.
I also found out that this manga is adapted from novels which i plan on reading!!!

"Let’s create our own legend…The Legend of Prince!”
It is the year 2100 AD, and Second Life, a virtual reality game with a realism level of 99%, has taken the world by storm.
When Feng Lan 'accidentally' kills her brother in an MMO game over a little dispute, the siblings place a bet on whether she will succeed in playing Second Life without using her "female benefits" to gain free weapons and armour from her online husband and admirers. And being the stubborn character she is, she signs up to be the first, and only, transvestite player in the whole universe of Second Life as the soon-to-be-famous (or infamous?) Prince. With her travelling party of misfits, the notorious Odd Squad, she meets new friends and enemies along her way to achieve world dominationprove her brother that she can kill stuff create the Legend of Prince, a name that will soon be regarded with awe across the nation…
*Cues dramatic music as Prince and his/her teammates ride off into the sunset on a giant clam*
I must say that I really enjoyed reading this series! Although it is a light novel with only 9 volumes, there is enough plot and character development to satisfy me for the rest of my life. At first, Prince seems to be a really self-centred and kind of idiotic character, but her foolishness is what really made me love her even more. Add in a talking pet meat bun and other equally odd teammates and you will get a whole big mess of fluffiness, stupidness and perfectly brutal fight scenes.
And of course, the somewhat endearing Gui who tries to initiate skinship with Prince every given opportunity possible, only to result in a slight-sadistic smile from Prince and a very beat-up Gui. But even that’s still cool.
All in all, I rate this story 6/5, it is that amazing. I would recommend this story to anyone who wants to read about a strong female lead, not another damsel-in-distress who has to be rescued by her Prince Charming.
I really enjoyed the first part of the manhua (No I didn't spell it wrong. Chinese comics called manhua, manga is only for Japanese comics). I also loved the second-life game idea and the main characters were all so hilarious and likeable. It was so fun to read until there were suddenly so MANY characters appeared and they all looked so damn alike and that confused the hell out of me. I couldn't tell whom is whom anymore. And that was also when the plot went downhill. There were many pointless scenes. And what annoyed me the most is definitely the love triangle. Feng Lan is the most clueless and indecisive person I've ever known. And I couldn't feel any connection or chemistry between these 3 people. I didn't even care who Feng Lan is gonna end up with because it's lame all the same. It's a pity since I really liked the first part of this manhua, I even read it twice but the rest is truly disappointing for me.
NO WORDS CAN DESCRIBE IT. RATHER, I'M SPEECHLESS. :))
ALSO I RECOMMEND READING THE MANHUA FIRST BEFORE THE NOVEL SO WHEN YOU READ THE NOVEL, IT MIGHT BE EASY TO VISUALIZE IT IN YOUR HEAD. :) (that's what I did, but if you insist on reading the novel first, the choice is youurssss. ;)) )
It's originally written in Chinese but I read the ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS by oddsquad scanlations (oddsquad.org) . :)
this is one of the BEST mangas/manhuas i've ever read. i love every single thing about this thing! is is SUPER funny, SUPER adventurous, SUPER cute, and SUPER EVRYTHING!!!!! i loved all the odd squad members, especially Guiliastes!!! and prince's pet, meatbun, SO. DARN. CUTE!!! and does anyone know of an anime called sword art online? it kinda has the same plot, but it is NOWHERE near 1/2 prince... yu wo, thank you so much for giving me 1/2 prince. if you hadn't, i would never have stared reading fantasy and action and adventure mangas. ohmigosh, THANK YOU SO MUCH! oh wait, did she write any other series?... (checking... checking...) oooooooh! the legend of sun knight, ey? i am gonna read you so bad, just you wait, im coming for you!
I reeeeeeaaaaally like this manga so far! It's about this 19 year old girl who plays virtual reality game called Second Life. She makes a bet with her twin brother that she can make I through the game and all without people helping her (because she's a girl). So she becomes a masculine version if herself. Gender switching is actually banned, but the creators let her because she was the very first person to enter the game. so she became a (dazzlingly hot) male bishie. Now she has the obsessive girls to worry about though... But with game names know one knows who she really is, and she runs into her brother briefly at one point (he didn't recognize her). It's pretty humorous since only the reader goes about knowing that he (named Prince) is actually a girl.
