LUCY FINN is a fulltime fiction writer who also owns an antique store, the Big Red Barn.
Under the pen name, Savannah Russe, she is the author of the bestselling vampire series called The Darkwing Chronicles: Beyond the Pale, Book One (June 2005), Past Redemption, Book Two (April 2006), Beneath the Skin, Book Three ( February, 2007), In the Blood (November, 2007), and Under Darkness (June 2008).
She lives in an old farmhouse near Noxen, Pennsylvania where her mother's family settled in the 18th century. Her ancestor, James Patton, died in the Civil War at the battle of Spotsvania Courthouse.
Lucy, who carries spiders outside in a cup rather than kill them, shares her farm with three dogs, many cats, and upteen wild creatures.
Daphne is having a hard time with her men, One is in Europe with another woman, another is in the hospital. Then, just before a new mission, Team Darkwing gets a new darkly gorgeous member who calls himself Tallmadge. Their mission: to find and stop an assassin from killing the antiwar activist Congressman Joe Daniel who has declared to run for President.
Very interesting detective/spy action and clues, but I did skip past some of the more ’sensual’ stuff.
Footnote: 1) I was told that the secret to getting out of a maze and it to always follow the left, or right, wall even if you have to back track a lot. But unless there are areas disconnected from the main walls, this should get you out without getting lost or going in circles. If possible, mark entrances that were dead ends and any branches.
Fave scenes: Daphne rescuing her dog, climbing into the ceiling, telling Fitz the truth and the string.
This book is about as uninspired as a Cole Swindell song. A uninspired plot, coupled with the overused theme of vampires. The idea of the enemy for this book was OK, but even that couldn't save this from being among the worst books I've ever read.
Not a romance! This book has been incorrectly labeled "paranormal romance" on the spine and it is 100% NOT a romance. If I had read the book intending it to be a fantasy/fiction, I would have reviewed it differently, but since I read it expecting a romance between a H/h, it didn't do it for me.
Daphne was a vampire and the author took large liberties with that definition here. I didn't mind the differences, but reader beware. If you are expecting a "typical" vampire read, this is not it.
Daphne had sex with multiple people all while complaining about her former "lover" who also had sex with at least one other person and called her periodically.
The suspense was okay. The plot was fine. The writing was very entertaining and well done. The book was written in first person and ALMOST had a writing style similar to Halfway to the Grave, but again, NOT A ROMANCE.
This one is the third in The Darkwing Chronicles, and certainly did not disappoint!
I love Daphne. She's an awesome heroine with so many flaws that she feels like a real person. It's so wonderful when the reader can get so involved in a character's life. It's cool.
Anyway, being a vampire isn't easy. Being a spy sure doesn't help. Having a mother who's full of secrets can be a total pain in the ass. And having so much temptation in the guise of a bunch of hot men, can certainly make life even more difficult. Lol. Daphne's not having the best of times at the moment, but she is determined to carry out the next assignment until the end.
And you don't want to miss her slow descend into the darkness she was positive she'd kept under control after all these years.
In the end, this was a fabulous book. I actually got the fourth one last weekend, and I'm so caught up in her story that I think I'm going to have to read it next...
First off, put this book down and go buy Jennifer Rardin's Jaz Parks series as it seems this series is based on Ms Rardin's series and Ms Rardin's series does it infinity better.
Second: great concept, terrible execution. The heroine's 'personality' reads like a D&D character sheet but she is even less interesting or accurate. Despite supposedly being one of the smartest people in the world, from a family world famous for treachery & cunning, heroine is easily led, and anything but intelligent. She is a clothes happy harlot in heat. And the depiction of her mother, much less the idea that vampires give birth...so improbable as to be completely unbelievable.
Thirdly: I am not a fan of first person narrative but it can be done in an unobtrusive manner. That is not the case here. The constant repetition of 'I' and 'me' was obvious and unwelcome. It also made the book read like a grocery list or to do list.
Again, skip this series and go read about Jaz Parks.

Its been a lot of years since I read the previous book so I don't really remember them that well, but I wasn't thrilled with this one.
To start with Daphne wasn't a great MC. She is easily played by others, seems wishy-washy on valuing human life and juggles multiple men. On the plus side she is loyal to her team and her dog.
Then the wrap up was confusing
This story the team is trying to stop the assassination of a controversial presidential candidate.
I think it focused WAY too much on random sex, and her level of "horny". When the word is used so many times in the first 25 pages, I am ready to throw the book across the room, it is too much.
Really...if I wanted vampire erotica/smut/crap I would read Laurell K. Hamilton.
The parts I liked the best had nothing to do with the sex, but with the actual plot of the book.
Another on my list of Fantastic Romance Fiction, or Urban Fantasy, I'm not sure what they're called. This on is a Female Vampire who was recruited in book #1 to be a secret agent in an government agency of nothing but vampires. Vamps working for the good of America. Corny but fun with hot sex sections. Better than the swooning women of the old 1950's romance novels. Good fun.
Savannah Russe has a pretty good series going with these Darkwing Chronicles. Her characterization is okay, plot moves along nicely, and basic premise believable (i.e., the logic works within the fantasy world she creates). An easy, light read fr summer.
I really like this series...love Daphne...love Darius but he keeps pissing me off and Fitz is great if he is a great as he comes off. This story has lots of action and some very hot action as well. Highly recommend this series.
This book was much better. We finally get an explanation (of sorts) for her sexual desperation and mood swings, get closure for Darius and prevent an assassination. The quality level of writing could still stand to improve, but this novel is a decent read.
I liked this book and reconmend it for an interesting read though be warned there is some very explicit scenes and since that doesn't bother me in the least I give my seal of approval!
The female characters have more depth than the male, or this would be even better. I like the complicated story lines and Daphne has more vulnerability that I expected. Good story.
Another great addition to The Darkwing series. More with a political theme then the others, but very edgy. I like how the romantic aspects played out too. Great x
