In spite of the not so great makeovers this is still one of my favorite makeup books. The meat of the book is very good, all the basics are covered, you get little color swatches (although too small) and makeup swatches which are correct even though the makeovers are heavy handed. She is selling a digital/print kit that includes the makeup swatches. It's pretty cheep and good quality. Fresh Epson paper is best (or HP Brochure) and make sure you have both a lot of ink and not a low amount of just one color as that will make the color print wrong. I have my tore up one from when i was a kid (it's swatchless and i cut stuff out with an x-acto knife). I have a fresh one on order now because I want to leave all that stuff I cut out in place & I kinda lost a few seasons stuff 'cuz it was loose. P.S. I only cut a star due to the makeovers being so heavy handed. I do like that they tried to show levels of makeup. She made her line of makeup because it was hard to get good foundations etc. and it showed her. Her eye shadows and lipsticks were the best before she sold the company. Good for Spring-Winters :)

I have a friend who is skeptical about the entire Color Me Beautiful system. She says she's been diagnosed as a Winter, Spring and Summer! It may just be that things are move complicated than just four types. I found at least one website that you can separate people into 12 or 16 types. So I might be a "Deep Winter" while my friend might be a "Spring Soft." I do know this system makes some sense to me as to why anything Orange is to be avoided and few Browns work for me. The classic Color Me Beautiful focused on wardrobe, this one focuses on makeup--not just the appropriate palette for your season but tools and application--even the steps to a perfect manicure. Of course this could use updating--this was published in 1987--and goodness fashions change--especially in nail polish where some shade of pink or red is certainly no longer the rule!

Excellent book for figuring out a lasting make-up routine and to really help you clean out your unused or should never be used makeup wardrobe. Makes cosmetics choices so much easier and is quite interesting to boot. Would have really appreciated this back in my teen years when first starting out with makeup. Sure, it's a dated looking book but 90% of the advice is still completely valid and I will be putting it on my wish list on Amazon.
