When she discovers that single women are not allowed on the wagon train heading for Oregon, Rosaline Fenster quickly hires someone to pose as her husband, but when he robs her blind and runs off, Rosaline must convince ruggedly handsome wagon master Rob Lewis to let her stay. Original.
USA Today bestselling author Kelly McClymer writes fairytale-inspired romances set in Victorian England (although a few characters escape to the United States), fairytale fantasy, and mom-inspired mystery.
Kelly shares her characters’ family values: she grew up with three younger sisters and has successfully raised three children of her own. She enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.
Kelly’s first published writing was for her high school newspaper and she’s been writing fiction in many forms ever since. While she explores many genres including historical romance, mystery, young adult, and fantasy, her stories share common themes: developing inner strength, the power of love in all it’s forms, triumph of good over evil, and the strength of family connection.
I really struggled to finish this one. I did not like Rosaline very much at all. Then there was the setting. It is set during a wagon train for most of the story. Not really my cup of tea. I have been reading this series for a while now and this is by far my least favorite. The ending felt like we had skipped ahead, and I had to go back a couple pages to make sure that I hadn't missed anything. It seemed like a huge chunk had been poorly edited out in the last chapter. Also, in the book just prior to this one, it ended with her sister the Duchess finally expecting a child but there is no mention in this one of whether a child was ever born, or if it was the only one conceived by the Duke and Duchess. I found this disappointing since through all the stories the lack of a child was mentioned and lamented even though many years had passed. I only have one more book in the series and I hope it will be as good as the previous books in the series.
I wasn't sure whether to give this a 2.5 or a 3. The love interest (Rob) wasn't a very good hero or person. He didn't interest me; I thought he was backwards and annoying. Ros of course, was a good heroine.
I was really looking forward to this book after her antics in "The Next Best Bride" Unfortunately, I was disappointed.
For most of the book the story just plods along slowly, the last 40 pages zoom by in fast-forward mode. I felt like I had missed about 5 chapters of the book. But no, that's the way it was written.
I never felt Ros and Rob were ever falling in or were in love with each other either. It was all chemistry and only here and there.
To me, it felt like the author had written the book and then decided to take out a huge chunk of it and changed things. Which left a lot of things dangling, but she never bothered to go back and connect them to the story.
I really felt the book was a waste of my time and would have probably quit reading it if I hadn't kept hoping for "more" for Rob & Ros.
