Tired of Manhattan's corporate rat race, Kate Pedigrew seeks a new life for herself as a stained-glass artist in Montpelier, Vermont, where she stumbles upon a mysterious nineteenth-century spinning wheel with magical properties and encounters handsome art historian Cole Beresford. Original.
Guilty pleasure alert. This is sloppily written, not particularly cohesive, and a little cheesy. But for some reason when I read it as a teenager I loved it. I just reread it because I wanted to revisit what I loved so much about it. Two stars for actual quality, five stars for nostalgic joy this book brought.
"The Dream Spinner" by Gail Crease is a softer tale of love and magic. Kate finds a special antique spinning wheel that contains magic. With it in her possession, her stained glass pieces become masterpieces and she herself becomes more beautiful every day. Cole is in Vermont in search of the spinning wheel. He is desparate to locate the artifact before the evil Davenport can steal it. He is also attracted to Kate even before he realizes she must have the wheel. Now Kate must decide which man to trust and the wrong decision could be fatal.
