"The twentieth century was a century in which human experiment in cruelty reached its height. I have decided to be a cockroach for a day, and see what is happening in this city through its eyes." These words from Yoko Ono, a groundbreaking visionary in the art world for over 50 years, is her manifesto-like description of the thoughts and ideas that went into Odyssey of a Cockroach . This elegant catalogue, with more than 40 color reproductions of the related exhibit, leads its readers through her installation through Ono's exciting narrative.
Yoko Ono (オノ/ヨーコ) Lennon is a Japanese artist and musician. She is known for her work as an avant-garde artist and musician, and her marriage and works with world famous English musician John Lennon.
This is a book of photographs of Yoko Ono's Odyssey of a Cockroach show. Which is a gigantic warehouse full of tons of various large stuff, intended to look like what a cockroach sees, mixed with a bunch of anti-war stuff typical of Yoko. I'm not going to go into detail on the pictures, They are pretty cool, but there are to many to really talk about here.
The book is ok, but I didn't like the fact that the book goes along with the cockroach motif, in that it is only 5x5 inches This makes it quite annoying to look at. And obviously means that all of the pictures inside of it are tiny(as well as some which look to be blow ups with atrocious resolution). So the book is part of the art itself I guess. I didn't like its size.
