Somebody Trilogy #3

Somebody's Hero

Rate this book
Romance writer Jayne Miller was determined to make a new life for herself and her daughter, far from the heartache she'd left behind.

She arrived in a late-winter storm — only to collide with a snow-dusted stranger. Her neighbor Tyler Lewis seemed to live a solitary life on his own terms, but his constant presence soon made her see past the brooding loner to the passionate man ready to break free of his brutal past. What would it take to convince Tyler that he wasn't somebody's tarnished hero — but the love of this woman's life?

Award-winning and bestselling author, international traveler, feted at a Hollywood premiere . . .

All true . . . but my regular life is a whole lot more routine. Deal with the five big puppers who share our house, babysit our grandson, battle the jungle that is our yard, pray for summer in winter and dream of winter in summer, and hunker down at the computer -- that's my real life.

I grew up in Oklahoma and had the fun of living in Georgia, Alabama, California and the Carolinas, thanks to my husband's Navy career. When he retired, we came home to Oklahoma and have lived in the same house for seventeen years. That's a real "Wow!" for someone used to the nomadic military life.

Writing was the perfect career for all that moving. Have computer, will travel. I've set books, or part of them, in every state we've lived in and been inspired by every place I've ever been. I've now written somewhere around 80 books, and I think I've got only about 8,000 stories left to tell.

My biggest hobby is starting new projects -- starting. Not completing. I'm still not done with the cross-stitched Army seal I started when our son joined out of high school. He did tours in Georgia, Colorado, Korea, Italy, Iraq, Afghanistan and Louisiana, and has been out for a few years. So I'm a little slow.

I like to think about getting organized, painting my living room in cool beachy colors, and turning my entire five-acre yard into a garden. I also dream about having every room in my house clean at exactly the same time, but I live by the motto of the woman who taught me to quilt: A clean house is the sign of a bored woman.

And I've never been bored.

A keeper!!!

On a reread in 2023, it didn't hold up. I am downgrading it from 5 to 3.5. And that's a shame because my GR friend, Luli, recently gave it 5 stars. Usually, we are on the same page.

Don't get me wrong, I still liked the MCs and plot. But I was painfully aware of Ms. Pappano's aura surrounding the h (she was a romance author, too). At times, I thought she was subconsciously venting her problems with writing romances and transferring those thoughts to Jayne.

Then again, it could just be me.

Heartwarming story of a damaged man finding love when least expected it. Tyler Lewis wanted only one thing - a solitary life. He is still suffering from the effects of the brutal childhood. He doesn't trust himself to be around people and definitely not looking for relationship. His solitary life was rudely disrupted when Jayne Miller arrived at the home nearby. Jayne is recently divorced mother who wanted to start a new chapter in her and her daughter's life in the remote part of Tennessee Valley. Although bitterly disappointed with her ex-husband, she is a romance author and believes in HEA despite everything. Both characters drawn very well but a six- years old Lucy is a real scene-stealer.

Somebody's Hero by Marilyn Pappano is an entertaining read. Ms. Pappano has delivered a well-written book, a nice smooth read. Jayne and Tyler's story is packed with drama, humor, sizzle and fantastic, lovable characters. Totally loved the characters in this story! I enjoyed reading Somebody's Hero and look forward to my next book by Marilyn Pappano. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I read a print copy of this book.

I usually like reading longer novels, 300+ pages as you get alot of character and plot development. I wasn't sure about this one at first as I thought it might be a bit cheesy and I didn't think this could be achieved in less than 250 pages. How wrong I was, and its true when they say never judge a book by its cover.

Without giving too much away, it's about a divorced city woman who moves into a dilapidated house in the rural parts of Tennessee where she can have some peace to write her novel. Little does she know about small town living. Lucky for her, she accidently stumbles across an aloof, intimidating, stubborn and unsocial neighbour down the road, who prefers to disconnect himself from people and live solitary life. He hates people invading his space. He chooses this life because of his traumatic violent past, he feels this is the only way he can redeem himself and have some peace in this self-imposed exile.

A series of events occur where they have to interact with each other. What I liked about the characters were, the hero was this brooding, mysterious personality with a dark side but with instances of dry humour and humanity, he is compelled to help others with tasks as a form of combating his loneliness and redeeming himself of his demons. She believes that she needs to get back on track with her career to support her daughter and doesn't want to be hurt again by another broken affair.
They were like two lost soul with sad pasts who unconsciously help each other to come to terms with their past. The country setting is very community inspired and everyone looking out for each other but also everyone knows each other's business.

The two main characters deserved to be together, they are so different, typical city person, she's untidy, relaxed except in the welfare of her daughter and he is a tough personality who can live it rough in the mountains or forest and survive any kind of weather and then be meticulous in his work and a responsible person but he is a troubled soul. I liked the way their relationship slowly evolved from initially being wary of each other, slowly trusting one another, then friendship to love. Tyler is one of my favourite alpha males, a passionate, mysterious, sexy, tortured hero. Jayne, the heroine tries to play the healer, to bring the hero out of his shell and isolation from people and help him deal with his traumatic past.

The plot had a nice setting peripheral characters fitted in well around the main story .The Hero/heroine were so endearing right from the beginning, as a reader I was rooting for them right until the end. My only gripe was I wish the novel was abit longer so I could read and drool more over Tyler and his scenes with Jayne and would have loved to know more about the past relationship with his former flame. All in all, an inspiring story about people who deserved redemption and second chances. I highly recommend this lovely story. This is going on my keeper's shelf.

This book just dragged. There was so much emotional baggage on the part of the male lead that I actually expected him to be older than 27. The female lead, at 30, seemed so much younger. The most frustrating part of the book was its contrariness in relations that I could not find believable (in a work of fiction, yeah). Otherwise a good read although I've read titles from this author which were shorter and actually had a whole heap of things to say.

Such a very real story. It was sad reading this, knowing that stuff like this happens in real life. Loved the characters and the story.
