Boring hero, boring heroine, boring plot, boring little boy (I always like kids in romances). The hero is a real pill. I started this book on April 22, 2013 and finished it on December 22, 2013. Why I stuck with it is beyond me. It was in my desk drawer at work and I'd periodically read a few pages - but reading it in small doses didn't make it any more palatable. One star is the lowest rating I can give this book - there is no -star to pick. Don't bother with this one - recycle it or donate it to the thrift store.

Por la sinopsis, prometía. Lástima que la autora no alcanzó a dar más que unas páginas antes de que la ilusión se hiciera pedazos xD. Mala escritura, mala trama, malos personajes... *sigh* Como siempre digo, no me gusta dejar una lectura a la mitad; comienzo, y si no me gusta, regreso a las horas o a los días para ver si fue un mal momento mío y quizás la situación mejora. Este escrito no pasó ese filtro y cada vez me aburrió un poco más. No sé identificar con precisión qué estuvo mal, tampoco había que esperar demasiado, no me gustó y no lo recomiendo.

This book was dreadful! I should have put it down right from the get go, instead I pushed myself and finished it. Ugh!
The scenes and dialogues are so cringe worthy and dramatic. Nothing makes sense! In one scene alone, Cheryl goes from hot to cold back to hot for Marco in like 1 short paragraph. All the characters are so one dimensional, no real story development and it's worse than predictable....it's BORING!
We never get to find out just what happened in Cheryl's past with Nick. Marco is more like a rough but kind sweet uncle who tries to care for his nephew. Cheryl is a complete mess with her 'lust' for Marco but wanting to hide behind her nanny uniform cause of her 'past' with Nick. I feel like Marco and Cheryl are simply placed together by the author simply because why not despite the circumstances (Cheryl is alone during a bad storm in a mansion looking after the poor nephew, and when the storm gets bad the hero Marco shows up to help clam Cheryl and set things right).
There was no witty exchanges between the two main characters. Just lots of boring and cringe worthy and head shaking scenes. And that ending....anti-climatic much?! Seriously Cheryl, you think that is the way to go?! Ugh!
Save yourself the hassle and just give this book a HARD PASS!

Did not like it. I found it Ridiculous in the beginning that the heroine was having sexual feelings for hero in midst of his nephew being sick with scarlet fever. The book was boring and the relationship fell flat. I did not feel that they were really in love and honestly did not care about either character. Np.

Well that was a whole lot of nothing. Was there a child in this? I couldn't tell because the leads were just mooning at each other. Didn't like the story and the characters lacked all depth. Skip my darling.

Not So Ruthless Lover
An amazing story! I loved it!
Intriguing. I couldn't put it down. The lovers found love unconventionally. Absolutely beautiful! Beautifully written.

I guess I had this on a no-plans-to-read shelf, mostly from the meh reviews. I didn't realize this when I started reading the book, though. I was about 1/2 done when I came to GR to add it and saw it was already added to my bookshelf. Oops! I figured I might as well finish it and so I did. Though, I admit, for the last 1/2 I did a lot of skimming.
The writing is a bit weird. The narration, I mean. How the author writes seems different than other Presents books. It sort of seemed dated? Like I'm reading a Presents written in the 90s, not in 2008. I even checked to see if this was a reprint, LOL. I don't now really how to describe it. Also the dialog is a bit weird, how they talk to each other. There are also a lot exclamation marks used. I read a 90s Presents that was very similar in way. Not really a fan of the dated style.
For being a nanny, she spends very little time with the child.
Also, I'm not really getting where or how Marco is ruthless (referring to the book's title). He's a bit cold towards his nephew, but not cruel. He doesn't act like an ass or overly alpha. He's actually pretty accommodating, doesn't try to jump her bones right away (and when he does, he's gentle and respectful) and does things that are thoughtful and considerate (though not at all times - he did get go downhill a bit in the end, for the drama/conflict of course). So, the title doesn't really match, IMO. The only ruthless part, possible could be the very end with the marriage plans, but that wasn't what I'd consider ruthless.
I kept getting the impression she might have been raped in the past by that Nick guy, but I'm not totally sure. She never plainly states what occurred in her past, just that Nick hurt her and she had a "horrible past" and such. But she spent a lot of time asking Marco things like, "would you really stop now if I asked you to?" (before sex) - which made me think she was raped in the past and Nick didn't stop when she wanted him to. Plus, I don't recall her being a virgin when they had sex...so I'm assuming she was raped? Or felt forced into it? I don't know, I wish there was a bit more clarity.
Even though "bimbo" in Italian is used to refer to children (according to my Googling), Marco calling Vettor bimbo (and not bambino) seemed weird to me, because of the common usage of bimbo to refer to women. Seems the author is from the UK, so maybe it doesn't have the same stigma as it does in the US? (which reminded me of another Presents where the hero said the heroine was dressed like a tramp. In the US that's basically calling her a whore. But what the author really meant was like a poor person. You'd think they'd check these things and come up with less problematic phrases before publishing).

This is a very tame story by an unambitious writer. The characters have no personality, the situations are hackneyed and the descriptions are trite. There has been no attempt at research and the details are therefore vague and implausible.
This is a writer who is afraid to express herself. My advice to her is, choose a new pen name, find a laptop you can use in bed, lock out any stray cats, flatmates, children, or husbands, put on some silk pyjamas, prop yourself up on masses of pillows and let rip. You'll feel much better for it.

Yuck!!! Almost didn't finish. Forced myself. Didn't like the H or h. Maybe it was the writing. It's the first book I read by this author. The dialogue between them was just weird.
