Pleasure before business...

John Stallion may be a ruthless CEO who thinks he can buy her family's Texas ranch, but Dallas businesswoman Marah Briscoe intends to put her considerable charm and savvy into breaking his iron grip on the proposed deal. Instead, she's blindsided by a man as infuriating as he is irresistible--a man who makes it clear he plays to win, especially where a beautiful woman is concerned.

Marah is feisty and furious, but all John can think about is the feel of her soft skin and full, sensual lips. The line between business and pleasure is crossed the moment she storms into his office wearing skinny jeans and sultry perfume. Determined to get closer to this passionate woman who has invaded his life, he begins their negotiations with a kiss....

I met Deborah Mello at a Black History Month event earlier this year. Several of us black authors were hawking our books. She bought mine, and I bought one of hers. When I asked which one she would recommend that I read first, she started talking about the Stallion brothers as if they were her own children. There was that look of loving pride on her face when she talked about them. Then she said I should start with To Love a Stallion.

What I didn't tell her was that I had only read maybe five romance books in the last 25 years. I used to read Jacqueline Susann and Danielle Steel until they got to be too predictable and I quit cold turkey. The few romances I have read recently were book club recommendations or were written by an author I knew or had met.

My Stallion brother was a pleasant surprise. Of course a romance novel has to follow certain prescription. Girl meets boy and in spite of their initial conflict we know they will end up together. Marah Briscoe and John Stallion start out with conflict, then they get together, and break up, and get back together. Then there is something else to keep them apart. There are some surprises, even with the prescribed formula. Ms. Mello interweaves the history of black cowboys and the care and breeding of thoroughbreds against a backdrop of western life, where you wouldn't expect to see black people.

There are no trite details of luxury cars, lushly decorated houses, and perfectly matching shoes and underwear. The details are rich, varied, and imaginative. There is even a twist in the erotica, in that John Stallion always uses a condom. I'll have to read another of Deborah Mello's Stallion series, maybe Matthew, Mark, or Luke. I give John 4 stars.

Mixing Business With Pleasure

This is only the second novel I've read by Mrs. Deborah Fletcher Mello, and I found it to be an enjoyable read. When the story first started I thought Marah Briscoe was a spoiled brat. I must admit I didn't think I would like her, but once the story got rolling, you get a better understanding of her feelings, she grows on you. John Stallion's character is quite memorable. He is portrayed as a very caring, intelligent, passionate and absolutely gorgeous young man. The immediate attraction between Marah and John is sweet, very sensual and sometimes funny. As much as she wants to despise him for trying to take away her family home, she can't seem to fight the intense desire she feels for him. And John, a man who NEVER mixes business with pleasure, is finding it very difficult to keep his relationship with Ms. Marah Briscoe strictly professional. Does Marah really love John? Or is she willing to do ANYTHING to keep her family home? I also enjoyed the camaraderie of the secondary characters, the Briscoe family and the Stallion family definitely aided in keeping this novel entertaining and I'm definitely looking forward to reading which Stallion Brother will be taken off the market next.

John and Marah's story line is to die for, literally. I love the Stallions I imagine in my mind that all the Stallions are tall, rugged and handsome and Deborah doesn't pretend. I loved this story line and couldn't put it down. That Marah, meant what she meant and said what she meant including interupting the Stallions business meetings to get her point across. " My Daddy is not selling that ranch!" well dad had a few surprises for Marah.. Glad it all worked out and Dallas is the bomb.

Sexy with humour

This book is both sexy and funny. It will keep you wrapped in the magical world created by Me. Fletcher Mello. It pulls at your heart strings and keeps you on the edge of your seat for a bit but you will love it. Get a cup of java, curl up under a blanket and read the time away.

Great read. Deborah Fletcher Mello has written great love stories about a rich family. What makes theses stories such a pleasant read is that, each character has a real life story and issues that the readers can relate to. I am on book 6 of the Stallion series, and look forward to reading other books by one of my favorite authors!
