I have loved the Sugar Creek Amish Mysteries books, but this one disappointed me. There were several major continuity errors that really bothered me. Like the different church was th biggest thing. They’ve been at Friends Mennonite Church since they got married, but suddenly they’re at Community Bible Church. That was a huge thing.

The next big thing was the talk about Seth’s daughter Sarah. The relationship is reconciled many books ago, but they’re back to saying reconciliation hasn’t happened yet.

Suddenly Esther is married.

Elizabeth was working at the Swiss Miss.

And I wasn’t as fond of this Cheryl as I have been of her all along. The way she talked to Rebecca, who is suddenly 5, and talked of limiting treats and watching TV. There was just a whole bunch of stuff that didn’t fit the other narratives.

The mystery was good, and I wasn’t able to call the ending, but those big differences kind of ruined it for me.

I would had liked the series to end well. That didn’t happen for me.

When the young man Levi and Cheryl give shelter to is arrested Cheryl and her mother-in-law have two mysteries to solve. Thefts have been happening around the town. There has been a death. So just before Christmas with all she has left to do Cheryl has to get to the bottom of the crimes. To add to her woes her daughter Rebecca says she saw an angel. And the new in town gift shop owner is accusing Cheryl of stealing her business. She also tells shop owners she wants them to stop selling certain things. When Angels Whisper is by Nancy Mehl and fits into the cozy Amish mystery genre.

This Amish Christmas story was sweet, mysterious, and faith filled, which are three of my favorite things. I love how determined Cheryl is to figure out who is behind all of the thefts in Sugarcreek. The prime suspect has a lot of evidence built against them, and is very close to being wrongfully imprisoned. I pride myself on figuring out who did it before the ending, but this novel had me stumped. I would definitely recommend reading When Angels Whisper by Nancy Mehl this holiday season.
