This handy little book was written by Ruby R. Goodnow (later known under her husband's last name of Wood) in 1914 as a guide to the first-time home owner, who, in the first half of the 20th century, tended also to be a first-time home builder. Part practical expose and part treatise on good taste, The Honest House seeks to introduce its reader to the fundamentals of domestic architecture and housekeeping and in this its succeeds admirably - a surprisingly large amount of its suggestions are still applicable today.
