Hope & Resiliency: Understanding the Psychotherapeutic Strategies of Milton H. Erickson

Rate this book
RELEVANT TO ALL MENTAL HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS, REGARDLESS OF THEIR THEORETICAL ORIENTATION. SUITABLE FOR PSYCHOTHERAPY STUDENTS. Milton H. Erickson is recognised as one of the most innovative clinicians of our time. Known as the father of modern hypnosis and the source of inspiration for many forms of family therapy and brief therapy (including the increasingly popular solution-focused therapy) Erickson's influence has reached far beyond the perimeters of any one country or culture. Much of the scientific and popular literature is beginning to focus on the themes of "hope and resiliency" - Erickson worked from a philosophical position that is best explained using these two concepts. Although Erickson is most commonly examined through the lens of hypnosis, this book takes a much broader approach and defines several key components that made him successful as a therapist. The book is written by leaders and experts in the field of Ericksonian therapy.

This is a Sensational book....... Dr. Roxana-Erickson Klein, and Dr. Short do a tremendous job of explaining the different Therapeutic Strategies of the late Dr. Milton Erickson.
One of the best parts of this book is the Introduction about Dr. Erickson's life; How he involved his Family in Everything, and his experiences on the farm, and his forward thinking, and genuine overall love of life--Paradoxical since he was faced with what would seem to be Soul Crushing Handicaps--The most slight progress can be huge progress--Read about his 1000 mile Canoe Journey--This alone will equip you with an insight into Anxiety, Danger, and Risk.

Some of the Strategies in this book are: Progression...Fractionization...Future Orientation...Seeding Orientation...and the Indirect approach with suggestion.
I like the fact that He implements the idea of Geometric Progression to both gain, and lose against an issue.
If I can decrease your pain 1 millionth of 1% over a consistent period of time, I can significantly decrease your discomfort, anxiety, neuroticism, depression, phobic symptoms, cramps.....etc

If I can get you to save one penny the first day, two pennies the second day, and double the amount you save for a month...how much would you accumulate ?
People are astonished to learn the sum is 5 million plus pennies.

This book is like "A Teaching Seminar with Milton Erickson ", The difference between that book and this book is, Dr. Short explains the strategies used by Dr. Erickson in minute detail; He even partitions problems and worries for a delayed solution by getting the conscious mind to focus on something else.

A deep insightful read.... Amazing Book from some Amazing and caring Therapists
