Wild #3

Wildcard

Rate this book
Wild - Wildcard By Cheyenne McCray Book 3 in the Wild series After four years abroad, Trace MacLeod has returned home to her family's ranch in southeastern Arizona. Everything in her life is going just the way she planned it—a home in London, a brilliant career, and she's practically engaged to a gorgeous English gentleman. But when Trace meets Jess Lawless, the cowboy turns her perfect world upside down. He's a wildcard…an unexpected, unpredictable wildcard who could win the game's hand instantly—or wreck it forever. Everything about him is virile and sexy, dark and dangerous. Definitely dangerous, and definitely not part of Trace's carefully arranged hand. From the moment Jess Lawless sees the sensual strawberry blonde, he knows he's got to have her. He manages to corner the green-eyed woman, and is intrigued by her combination of sophistication and innocence, boldness and shyness. Even when Trace tells him she's taken, Jess doesn't let that stop him. He's determined to make her his.

Cheyenne McCray fell in love with reading and writing early, deciding in kindergarten that one day she would become an author. Today, she is an award-winning New York Times and USA Today bestselling fiction author who’s sold millions of books worldwide. Having published more than 100 novels and novellas in contemporary and paranormal romance, urban fantasy and romantic suspense, she is now also writing cozy mysteries as Deb Ries.

Chey grew up on a ranch in southeastern Arizona and delights in creating stories of suspense, love, and redemption with characters and worlds her readers can get lost in. Chey and her equally geeky husband live with their two dogs, six ducks (the neighborhood celebrities), and a small flock of chickens in a small Arizona town where she enjoys gardening, crazy quilting and, of course, writing.

Lustfest...big ol' lustfest, this one. Since I read this series entirely out of order (and switched back and forth from the Ellora's Cave editions to the reissued ones) the series suspense plot involving illegal aliens from Mexico, cattle rustling, and drug smuggling is all jammed up in my brain--this one involves drug smuggling, I believe. Actually, the suspense plot in this one is just a footnote because most of the book involves the "I've-got-to-have-him-I've-got-to-have-her" between the hero (tall, dark, sexy, and dimpled DEA agent Jess Lawless, who's working undercover as a ranch foreman on the heroine's sister's Arizona ranch) and the heroine (former chubby beauty Trace MacLeod, recently back in Arizona after a 4 year stay in England with a new sexy figure and the confidence to match). Trace has returned to her sister's ranch for the Christmas holiday after spending the last 4 years getting her career in PR going, and is expecting to become engaged to the English gentleman that she's been dating for the past few years. But when she spies sexy Jess at her friend's Christmas party, all bets are off...

Not too much character development in this one, but the author does give you the essentials. Not much relationship development either--not too sure if Jess and Trace ever had a conversation that didn't revolve around sex. So know what you're getting into before you start this one, because you'll be getting plenty of steam. Look for some erotic steaminess involving a hot tub, a desk, and a pair of chaps (not all together, of course!)

I'm guessing the reissue of this one (Luke), which contains 100 more pages, is more fully developed. But Wildcard is pretty streamlined, which makes it a fast read, but left me wanting a bit more. It's definitely sexy enough though, and kept me turning the pages, so I'd give it a solid 4 stars.

The third in McCray's Wild series, this one follows the story of Trace, the little sister who's been away in England for 4 years and returns home to Arizona. Like the earlier books in the series, McCray's heroes are studly cowboys with chaps, hats, and zero commitment issues for their woman once they find 'the one.' It's nice to read books where the plot is not driven by lies or miscommunication between the couple, but is straight-forward and open. Gotta give props to that.

Pure escapist fun. I enjoyed it a lot.

By far the best book in this series thus far...I just also found out that the Armed and Dangerous series is basically the Wild Series revamped...so I may or may not read them. Okay so I probably will but I am going to wait on it so these ones aren't so fresh in my mind and I can read them from a fresh perspective.

Anywho...Jess is ... oh lord he is one hot cowboy and I loved reading his and Trace's story. By 87% I was laughing hysterically because those two can't seem to be together alone anywhere they go.
I was kind of wanting a book on Harold and Ann...seeing those two interact...their story would be a great one.

If you're looking for a steamy/romance/suspense/funny/hot cowboy read then you should really check out not just this series but also check out the Rough and Ready as well as the Riding Tall series by McCray.

Trace and Jess' story.
I liked it. They had an instant attraction but didn't jump right into bed. The sexual tension was good and built up the anticipation.
There was a continuation of the rustler/drug traffic storyline which is really incidental to the series but ok and not a distraction.

This one was probably the better of the 3 for me. Good for people who like cowboys. I kind of thought it was odd she would give it all up for him, but whatever.
