Based on a General Hospital storyline, this book lets you experience a young woman's coming of age through her own heartfelt story of love, romance and family ties in the turbulent 1990s.
I truly loved this book. I missed out on Robin and Stone and have been catching up on their love story via Youtube but there are missing parts that thankfully this book filled in for me. I started watching GH in the late 90s and even long after Stone had died just the way Robin reminisced about him, you could tell he was her true love and was really the reason I decided to see what was so great about their love. I wasn't disappointed. They weren't your typical first love story line, they were that and so much more. They were the love in sickness and in heath couple and loved unconditionally during that time. Stone and Robin really were true love and Robin keeps a special place in her heart for only him. Truly a beautiful and heartbreaking story. The only thing I would have liked if the book continues on after Stone died to include the funeral and the scattering of his ashes that showed how close Robin and Sonny's friendship became.
You have to be a fan of the show(and character Robin) to really love this book. I actually started watching GH at the start of this storyline involving Robin and Stone..so it was interesting reading "her diary" of their life/realtionship together.
although I must admit that I don't remember all of Michael "Stone" Cates's time on GH (because I was like between 5 and 7 when he was on) I definitely remember what the show was like when he died and how he has been remembered ever since. I also remember (watching past clips on YouTube and episode flashbacks) how amazingly powerful that Robin and Stone's love story was not only told, but how much Stone's HIV/AIDS battle has lived on. GH has always been really good at tackling hard issues, starting with the HIV/AIDS storyline (and continuing with it for the nurses ball; which is getting increasingly better and better), abortion, bipolar/depression, cancer, death and now Alzheimer's. (please forgive if I've left out any)
I remember watching the sweet, sad love story of Robin and Stone play out as it first aired on tv. Such a wonderfully written, acted storyline with such an impact on people, not only the characters, but the actors and the viewers as well.
I really enjoyed reading this book...learning about what Robin was thinking and feeling throughout everything that happened between her and Stone.
Recently, I found that someone had uploaded this whole story onto youtube, so I've been watching them and reminiscing...
This is an ok read. It not written in any consistent form. It's written like a diary so it all in Robin's POV and it's jumps days or weeks at a time. You get highlights of her life and relationships. I read it when I was in high school back when I watched General Hospital with my mom. It's not something I would read over and over but, I liked it when I read it.
If you like GH and the character of Robin, this book might interest you. I really enjoyed the storyline of Stone and Robin so I was interested in the book. Even if you were not watching GH at the time, it give a nice background for the character of Robin and her issues.
I remember watching this like it was yesterday.. I really didnt want them to get rid of Stone, he was one of my favorite characters and they could have possibly kept him there with HIV like they have kept Robin. Maybe they will bring him back, like they bring back everyone else??
Reading this brought me back to 1995 when the story originally aired. When I watched it with my mom back then, we cried for weeks while Stone was dying and I cried at his death almost 20 years later! Completely satisfied my need for some 90s GH nostalgia.
If you are into soaps and like General Hospital then this book is for you. It is the diary of Robin and it talks about her relationship struggles as well as family problems. It's full of drama!
