Fumiyo Kōno (こうの史代, Kouno Fumiyo) is a Japanese manga artist. She was born in Hiroshima in 1968 and began drawing manga when she was in junior high school. After moving to Tokyo, she became an assistant to mangaka Katsuyuki Toda, Aki Morino, and Fumiko Tanigawa.
Kōno made her commercial debut in 1995 with Machikado Hana Dayori. She is best known for her manga Town of Evening Calm, Country of Cherry Blossoms, winner of the Grand Prize at the 8th Japan Media Arts Festival (2004) and of the New Life Award at the 9th Osamu Tezuka Cultural Prizes (2005).

J’ai tellement rien compris à ce manga qu’à un moment je me suis demandé si je le lisais pas à l’envers ¿ (heureusement, non je le lisais bien dans le bon sens japonais)
C’est une succession de petites scènes de 3/4 pages, mais qui n’ont aucun sens et aucun lien entre elles (ou alors je suis vraiment idiote, possible) j’ai vraiment RIEN COMPRIS
Vraiment pour une première lecture de manga je suis pas déçue du voyage 🤣

A cute manga that manages to portray the daily live and slow growth of an unlikely couple towards each other without using many words. Often it's more show than tell, which I quite like. Sadly, it's pretty short. It makes me long for more.

Sosuke có thể là người chồng vô tích sự, không kiếm được việc, không kiếm ra tiền, nhưng cái kiểu hở có tiền là nghĩ đến chuyện đi hẹn hò với gái, và cả cái thói tùy tiện với vợ thì không chấp nhận được. Nói trắng ra, Sosuke đâu phải vô tích sự mà là rác rưởi thì đúng hơn. Nếu cảm thấy không thích thì từ đầu đừng cưới, để rồi cứ hở ra là đem bán Michi. Mặt khác, sự cam chịu của Michi lại càng làm cho Sosuke tùy tiện hơn, nhưng nghĩ lại thì có khi Michi thật sự ngơ ngơ sống qua ngày chứ cũng không thật sự để tâm nữa. Thôi thì nếu Michi chấp nhận được thì cũng chẳng còn gì để bình luận về cặp vợ chồng này

Occasionally funny, occasionally surreal, but mostly melancholy, Nagai Michi (Long Road) is a slice-of-life manga about an unhappy marriage. Michi and husband Sosuke's marriage was arranged out of family convenience rather than love or desire, and even basic mutual respect is beyond the characters a lot of the time. Sosuke is feckless, neglectful, and unable to hold down a job. Michi is a lot more sympathetic - equally unsuited to the basics of making a living and naive, but kindhearted and creative. Sosuke chases other women, Michi quietly daydreams about her ex.

Fumiyo Kouno, best known for historical manga about families struggling through World War II, draws both Sosuke and Michi almost as child-size adults, tiny and vulnerable as they try to get by with few marketable skills and fewer resources. The two of them, it becomes clear, are dependent on one another in ways Sosuke in particular dislikes and resents. After 30 or so pages, I wanted to abandon the book, not because it was badly done, but because it was so uncomfortable reading about miserable people hurting each other, told with a rueful shrug.

But I kept going, because I realised I was rooting for them to find some kind of resolution. And there is character development, a very gradual blossoming of respect and affection, with closing chapters that suggest there's something worth building on between these two people. Sosuke is still a dickhead, but by the end he's at least capable of clumsy moments of tenderness. There's lots to admire here even if you're not invested in the characters, though - some of the stranger, dreamlike short stories have a gentle, lightly surreal beauty, and a manga focusing so patiently on the doings of life's losers is an unusual, worthwhile thing.

Mình vốn đã yêu thích tác giả Fumiyo Kono qua bộ truyện nổi tiếng “Ở một góc nhân gian” nên khi IPM ra mắt “Đường dài” - tác phẩm thứ hai của bà, mình mua ngay không chút chần chừ. Câu chuyện “cưới trước yêu sau” và nữ chính Michi có vibe ngơ ngơ hiền hiền gợi nhớ đến Suzu là những điều khiến mình liên tưởng đến “Ở một góc nhân gian” khi mới bắt đầu đọc “Đường dài”. Nhưng càng đọc mình càng nhận thấy “Đường dài” hay ho và đáng yêu theo cách của riêng mình. Những mẩu chuyện slice of life rất đỗi đời thường nhưng càng đọc càng cuốn. Đôi vợ chồng bất đắc dĩ Sosuke - Michi tưởng chừng “đũa lệch” lại ăn rơ không tưởng. Truyện có những tình huống hài hước khiến cho mình bật cười sảng khoái, nhưng cũng không thiếu những phân đoạn khiến lòng chùng xuống vì sao buồn quá.

Lúc mới đọc mình không thích Sosuke tí nào vì anh chàng mê cờ bạc, mê gái, vô công rỗi nghề, lắm thói hư tật xấu, nhìn qua nhìn lại chẳng có chỗ nào để khen. Nhưng giờ nghĩ lại tác giả Fumiyo Kono đã tạo ra anh chồng Shusaku quá hoàn hảo rồi thì cái sự không hoàn hảo của Sosuke lại trở nên rất có cá tính và khiến cho quá trình thay đổi của anh chàng sau này để lại ấn tượng khó quên trong lòng mình.

Un matrimonio arreglado (por sus padres borrachos): Él es un maldito grosero infiel, y ella es una santa... pero que firmó los papeles del registro civil en nombre de los dos sin siquiera haberlo conocido (¿estará loca o trama algo?). En fin, lo único que tienen en común es que no se quieren, ni se quisieron jamás.

Tanto cinismo e incoherencia puede desagradar a los lectores que prefieran amores idílicos y protagonitas de comportamiento ejemplar. No es mi caso.

Creo que el humor de obra está en el anti-romance. Mezclando toda esa malicia con un estilo visual y narrativo tan contrastantemente lindo e inocente, y chistes generalmente blancos (hasta infantiloides a veces) sale un manga slice of life raro y (al menos para mí) muy entretenido.

As I enjoyed another work by this author ("For Sanpei") I wanted to discover more, but what a deception. As a woman fighting for gender equality I had troubles with the thematic here: a woman is "given" to a man because both the protagonists alcoholic fathers made a bet through some game. The feminine character as no personnality at all, she's submissive in all ways, and the man is as stupid as egoïst and insensitive. What is quite disturbing here is the contradiction between this story and the soft and quite childish drawings. it wo(rked quite well for the other manga I read before but here it made me feel uncomfortable.

Histoire certainement inattendue, d’un couple improbable, Fumiyo Kouno impose dès ce premier volume son style, un style simple, un peu désuet où les héros sont ordinaires. Taniguchi au féminin, je retrouve chez elle, la même douce satire sociale derrière un humour tendre et efficace qui sait délivrer ses flèches. Ici, elle a l’art et la manière de croquer un époux détestable mais un couple attachant. Hâte de la retrouver dès aujourd’hui dans une nouvelle histoire : Les fleuristes du coin de la rue.

Quyển sách đầu tiên của năm 2021. Chuyện dễ thương, nhẹ nhàng mà gần gũi, bình dị mà sâu sắc.

Nhân vật nam quá tệ, ảo tưởng, háo sắc, lười biếng và gian manh. Đối ngược với anh ta là một nhân vật nữ chăm chỉ, dịu dàng và hiền hậu, lại dễ tin tới mức khù khờ. Ai cũng sẽ nghĩ Sosuke không xứng với Michi. Nhưng thật ra cả hai lại là mảnh ghép hoàn hảo dành cho nhau. Đời cũng chỉ là những mẩu chuyện vỏn vẹn, tưởng thô kệch mà lại ăn khớp với nhau vậy thôi.

Vẫn còn một tác phẩm khác của cùng tác giả mà mình chưa đọc, chắc sẽ sớm đọc trong năm nay.

Je suis partagée quant à cette lecture : j’ai grandement apprécié les parties où Michi était seule, c’était calme, très zen et ça me mettait de bonne humeur. Mais Sôsuke me saoulait et sa présence m’a gâché le plaisir.
Bref, c’est un avis en demi-teinte.

quyển này là tập hợp những mẩu chuyện ngắn, vụn vừa, theo kiểu slice-of-life, nhưng cũng có mấy mẩu trừu tượng lắm í, như kiểu của “hoạ ký ngàn năm”

Really funny, I liked the story of this odd couple, Michi and Sosuke, their adventures, their relationship, it might be considered a love story. This was Fumiyo kouno's debut work and my second book by her after "Kono Sekai no Katasumini". I intend to read her other books.

Ce type de narration en saynètes n’a pas ma préférence car il ne permet souvent que d’aborder en surface l’histoire. C’est l’impression que j’ai eu ici même si j’ai trouvé certains passages assez drôles.

Un tome unique montrant la lente évolution d'un couple au mariage arrangé : le mari, jeune home coureur, « tolère » la présence de sa femme, une jeune fille réservée et patiente.

Petit à petit, ils apprennent à se connaître et à s'apprécier. C'est la longue route du titre.

Constitué de courts chapitres (trois pages), tranches de vie finissant par faire un tout cohérent, l'ouvrage est imprégné d'humour et d'une certaine finesse psychologique. Le graphisme est élégant, avec quelques expérimentations, très agréable.

Une bonne surprise.
