If you want to work with fingerprints in a profound way, I can easily recommend this book. The part about representing fingerprints is must read literature for anyone trying to do biometric research. I wrote my master thesis on minutiae extraction and most of my knowledge about fingerprints is from this book.

The only problem I have with this book that is slowly getting older and many of the new techniques involving deep learning for example are not included in this book, because they did not exist at the time.
