This book gives a detailed reconstruction of Roman military life. It gives you the play-by-play of what the typical Roman soldier could expect from the point of pre-enlistment to death or retirement. It covers things such as Roman training techniques, chain of command, unit structures, daily life, and much more. Anyone that is genuinely interested in the Roman military should read this.

A very well researched and sourced treatise on the Roman Soldier below the rank of Centurion. This work details the particulars of recruitment, pay, training, religion, and marriage. Though short, it is ripe with material drawn from a host of period sources. A definite read for those interested in the life of a man in service to Rome.
