4 Stars - Filthy but really fun M/M cartoon about a hot pirate and his "tempting treasure"

The Black Wade: The Wild Side of Love - an erotic gay cartoon, is absolutely matchless wacky and fun. Maybe I should blush deeply and be quite terrified, these drawings show just about everything. It's these big thick hard... in quantities.

This is a short colorful story about a horny pirate and his valuable male prisoner. A prisoner who cannot help but be attracted to, and very pleased with what he gets to taste. ~ Tough, rough.. about "to take and be taken" all the time.
...and it's free online.
‘There was not a port or tavern where the sailors did not recount the tales of the notorious Captain Black Wade, the terror of the seven seas.’

 photo image_zpscaea49f2.jpg

‘...He is fierce as a tiger with his enemies, but passionate and insatiable with his lovers. His swashbuckling sexuality knows no bounds as well as no inhibitions.’

Black Wade: TWSoL is maybe as close to M/M porn a cartoon can be. Though I can't resist to feel that it is outrageously fun, and I was laughing out loud most of the time. It's so damn dirty, steamy, erotic and "bang on" from start to finish - quite indescribable.

~**~**~**~**~**~**~

The English Lieunetant Jack Wilkins is on his way home to England, from the British Colony in America, to marry the beautiful Annabeth, but fate wants different. Jack is instead captured by a Pirate Captain, Black Wade, in an attack in the middle of the sea. Later, he wakes up in a cargo hold on the pirate ship and hardly know where he is. But that will soon change.... This ships pirate captain likes the looks of his new prisoner and already know what use he wants him for.

~**~**~**~**~**~**~

At just 80 cartoon pages, there isn't much opportunity for a very developed story but here we get atleast what is perhaps the beginning of an epic and action-packed love story. ...With a good and promising end. I really hope there is a continuation and more exciting tales of pirate Wade and Jack.
 photo image_zps5d86e174.jpg

And the art...~ These drawings are so amazing beautiful made and very expressive. I've always had a weakness for drawings and art, and although this was more than what I might have seen before, it was a delight to see them. Very, very hot indeed..

*Giggles* ~ Yes, I'm probably a very naughty smut-girl. Sometimes you just have to face facts. Hands up!

~**~**~**~**~**~**~

Even this little pirate adventure, developed at last, into something quite sweet and really romantic. Yum, it tasted! ~ Who can resist a dark, well-equipped, tough pirate - with gold earrings, a stunning body and a huge desire? Not Lieutenant Jack. And not me either.
~**~ It must be 4 wild from me... ~**~

I LIKE - Woot!! - outrageously with a lot of filth but so nicely drawn

Yawr!!!!!!!!! 'Tis be another tale o' Gentlemen o' fortune lovin' one another!! 'Tis be exciting and illustrated! Yo-ho-ho!!!

Aye, I be a pirate lubber! A warning for ye lily-livered sort: thar be dub-con and non-con (even a gang rape, aye!) 'Twas grand!

There be a solider in the Queen's Navy, ya savvy? He be engaged to a lass but dreams of sucking cloud cocks. 'Tis his deepest fantasy, me hearty. This land-lubber be named Jack.

Jack's ship be under attack by the mighty and meaty cocked pirate captain, Black Wade. Shiver me timbers, Black Wade plunder both the ship's booty and Jack's! Ahoy! 'Twas also a grand time.

Fat cocks getting swabbed down by sloppy tongues, fat arses being filled with seamen's semen, meaty cocks being stuffed into tight crevices o'er and o'er...

And in color! Yawr-har-har!!!

The tale of Black Wade not be an easy one, sometimes predictable but be fun and erotic! Sure there be a few issues with the story tellin (like how an unconscious man can know what happened to him while he was under forty winks?)

Every matey in the story has a massive package and plump arse...what more does a pirate lubber want?

Yar! 4.5 Stars! Recommended for me fans of pirate booty plunderin'

Well that was interesting.

This was my first manga read, so no clue how this rates in comparison to everything, but it was fun. I love pirates and sailing, so that alone made me like it more. Really simple story. Not sure how to rate the art, but it conveyed the story well and moved the eye along--except where it didn't :)

Thanks, Ingela for the heads up on this one.

That’s one hell of a freaking erotic comics. Loved it!!! 😍

A Stockholm’s syndrome story. Lieutenant Jack was captured when his ship was plundered by Captain Wade, the notorious captain of the seven seas. Captain Wade fancies boys and he didn’t kill Jack just for the sake of being able to bugger anytime at his pleasure. Wade has started to have feelings for Jack but he doesn’t do love and romance so he put Jack on a raft and left alone in the sea. Will these two men have another chance for love? 😌

The art was erotic and sexy and the storyline was simple but exhilarating and interesting. And it’s a bonus that they got a HEA. Loved it a lot! 😍❤️😘

Smokinhotbooks Confesses…

…. to Buying Porn

I did it. I bought pirate gay porn….in HARDBACK. I told hubs it was ‘graphic art’ and that he should never, ever, go near it. Of course he plucked it out of my hands and flipped through it – the expression on his face was *priceless*

Black Wade The Wild Side of Love is a breathtaking showcase of graphic art *says with straight face*. I enjoyed the story of Lieutenant Wilkins and the sexy Pirate Wade (one might even say a little too much). The love scenes are erotic, explicit, and just plain gorgeous. I think my only ho-hum was the rape scene, but even in its violence the art work was beautiful and stunning.

If there is one thing you need to cross off on your Bucket List, it is buying a copy of Black Wade the Wild Side of Love ‘nough side.

P.S. Where on earth am I going to put this? For godsakes my parents come over and visit, Papa Smokin’ is notorious for finding things he shouldn’t.

I can understand exactly what Franze and Andärle mean when they say that their style is; nifty and thoroughly in the details. This precision makes the world of Black Wade incredibly rich and one that you will want to revisit often.

The opening is well scripted with a backstory that deftly gives you an understanding of Jack. A young man, engaged to the luscious Annabeth, but filled with forbidden desires for more masculine curves. Jack has great strength of character and integrity, but he is no match for the merciless pirate who captures him and subjects him to all manner of wicked, nasty goodness. Black Wade is a swarthy, likable rogue with much lustrous hair and beard. I'd like to give him pats. He also has rugby player thighs. These are the very best kind of thighs to have you understand! heh.

The art is incredibly beautiful. The tension and lust between Jack and Black Wade is palpable and so incredibly hot. I think my favorite panels are of Jack when he is sleeping early on in the book and having some rather erotic and lickable dreams! I also liked the images of Wade lolling about in his room, ship, bath and bed. All of them! He is just lush. The whole book is so gorgeous and it is difficult to narrow it down to just one or two images. The emotion conveyed through the color is also a large part of what makes this such a memorable read and the moody, dark palate used in the picture of Wade on the bridge illustrates this point beautifully. Or, when Jack and Wade are in a clinch in one of the final cabins scenes the red is simply to die for.

This is absolutely a must have and has to be one of my favorite reads I've purchased this year. It has everything, dashing heroes, star crossed romance, bad guys, knee breeches, ships, rope, leather boots and more swashbuckling than you can shake a stick at. Clever, beautiful, utterly romantic and total 5 star plus read.

So, I liked it. Just a bit. heh.

Ohmyohmyohmy! Reading Black Wade is a completely unique and hot experience!

But I’m a bit at a loss here how to review this sexy, exciting and beautiful graphic novel. Because, when I look at it pure plot-wise, like I’m used to do mainly with regular romance novels, it’s not much of a story. It’s rather schematic and predictable. It has a nonconsensual beginning which would’ve put me off in any other story, but in this case the drawings drew me in again. The twists and turns that bring the love couple together, split them up and bring them together again seem artificial. And the emotional level of the protags’ feelings seem rather superficial. I missed the depth that I usually get from the descriptions in a regular novel.

Well, looking at Black Wade pure plot-wise and on a textual level doesn’t do the book any justice, that’s for sure!

I learned very quickly that the drawings are much more important than I initially gave them credit for (duhuh!). Looking more intense at the pictures learned that I could ‘read’ much more from them than from the little text balloons. They are not mere illustrations that accompany the story, no, they are telling a big part of the story themselves. Where I was at first more focused on the explicit sexual pictures, that are gorgeous *ahum*, at second glance the other pictures were extremely artistic too!
One of my favorite scenes is this tender, though rough, moment:

*click the picture to enlarge*

Wade’s sexy crudeness and Jack’s shy submissiveness are captured beautifully in word and image here.

I wish I could ‘quote’ the complete book, to show you its great and varying artwork, but alas you better get yourself a copy to enjoy its full potential. It’s worth the money, although it seems a lot for 80 pages.
I’m browsing through the book one more time before I return it to Leontine, but I think I’ll be missing it within a few days and I’ll have to get my own copy. As soon as I’ve found a good hiding place for it...

Okay, so let’s get this out of the way right up front... I liken reading Black Wade to guys who say “I read Playboy for the articles.” While those articles may be thought-provoking and interesting, we all know it wasn’t the driving reason for buying the magazine.

The key to reading a graphic novel is that you need to read both the written words as well as the detailed pictures that go with each panel/scene. Because there are so few words, reading them alone will not give you the entire story. Black Wade is no exception to this rule. There are several key plot points and underlying facts that can only be discovered from the artwork. For example, in the very beginning of the story Lieutenant Jack Wilkins lays down for a rest on his voyage home and fantasizes about his fiancee. But what we see is that fantasy turn from Annabeth into a rather large phallic, and only then does Jack find his release. It’s a key part of the developing story, told to the reader via images.

And let me tell you about the images in the book. They are incredible. I read a few comics, but none have the artistry of Black Wade. The details are amazing, colorful, and as I said earlier, tell a story on its own. But be warned: this is a VERY graphic novel! (And the pun is not a joke.) If you are at all uncomfortable with male/male sex - then do not get this book. You have been warned. However, if you enjoy intense m/m sex - or are curious - this is a wonderful story to read.

While Black Wade’s love story is simple in nature, it is pleasing in every way. I do not condone forced sex as the start of a relationship (Wade captures Jack and makes him a “love slave”), but it works in this pirate tale. Jack may be saying “no,” but the pictures tell the whole story. You start to realize that maybe the “no” is not one that means stop, but one that means “I am not ready to face the fact that I am a homosexual and am enjoying this sex.” Once again, you need to “read” the artwork to understand the emotional connection that develops between Jack and Wade. It’s amazingly sweet and completely satisfying. There are a few tough parts to get through (a horrible rape scene of Wade), and the story had a few open-ended sub-plots (what’s with Marak?). I was sad to see the story end so quickly and I can only hope that there will be a second story in this wild tale.

My Rating: 4 stars.

This was my first graphic novel. I must say: I don't think it's really my thing.
I'm not saying it was bad because it absolutely wasn't. I guess this one was very good for graphic novel standards. You can't really expect an elaborate plot with these kind of books, so it all kind of jumped from hate to rape to love.
Another reviewer commented on the characters looking Disney-ish and I must agree. Although I've never seen Disney characters in porn poses. The drawings were hot though and there was lots and lots of attention to detail. With a little a exaggeration here and there. And I'm not only hinting at the amount of fruit packed in those tights... Black Wade and Lieutenant Wilkins sure made the Spartans from 300 look like slackers!

All in all: a new experience for me. I'm bumping this up to 4 stars.

IT DIDN'T WORK FOR ME.

I expected to like this. But unfortunately, for me this was just like a porn.

The artwork were very good to be honest. But the rest of it is meh. I can't almost differentiate the characters In fairness Jack was hot. But Wade, here in the Philippines we call it shrimp (hipon in Filipino). Someone who has a hot body but fugly face. XD I didn't feel the story or their emotions. And the exposure of the bodies in here, it's almost too much. Mystery is sexy, remember that! It just didn't work for me.

If you guys are looking for a webcomic with hot illustrations, this one will do.

My Tasting:

Why I bought it:

Sarah of Rain on the Roof is a PIMP, that's why!! See: http://sharrow.wordpress.com/2009/10/...

Dislike/like (ending on a high note):

Dislike~ At 80 pages it's not a particularly long read, but this is actually pretty average for a graphic novel or comic. I admit that I don't buy this medium very often and am always a little taken aback by the cost of it; however, when you consider the format (hard cover, A4 size) and the quality of the artwork, I think it's worth it.

Like~ Graphic novels, comics, yay! I'm such a sucker for the medium. Maybe it's me, but there is something just so vivid and tactile about colour in this format and this is definitely true for Black Wade. The artwork is so beautifully lush and the scenes between Wade and Jack have a depth and sensuousness to them that is absolutely gorgeous.

Dislike~ This story has dub con in it, including an initial scene between the main protags. To be honest, I was a little put off by this, yet what else can you expect from a pirate/captive pairing. I think what made it convincing overall was a glimpse into the mind of Jack before his capture (can't tell you the details for fear of spoilers) and the development of the emotional relationship between the two men afterwards.

Like~ Further to the above, and while the theme of the story is nothing startling or new, Black Wade still gives the reader a satisfying and sexy romance between two complete opposites during a period of time when this was strictly forbidden. Lovely. :)

So, what I think: I am so in love with the artwork of Black Wade it's not funny. I keep taking it off the shelf and salivating over it. It's stunning.

=============================================

‘Tasting’ is my version of a mini-review where I talk a (very) little about what I liked and disliked about a book as well as who I think the story will appeal to. Oh, and I’ve added a bit about why I picked up the book in the first place – sometimes this can be interesting to know.

Everyone (aka Kris) bullied me until I bought this. Freaking expensive but Book Depository is amazing. About $10 cheaper than Amazon and actually had it in stock. Jack is in the British navy when he is taken captive by pirate Black Wade (BW). BW has his way with him and eventually Jack gets with the program. When BW feels himself getting attached he sets him free. Jack is about to marry his fiance he finds out BW has been captured and is being abused (aka raped). He can’t stand it, frees BW and they sail away. I assume there is room for a sequel as another Navy guy was pretty pissed, maybe that ship they stole did it. So was it amazing? The story was okay and if you have serious issues with non-con depicted or dub-con, then there might be issues but the artwork is freaking amazing. It’s not like old Superman comics, the inside is as beautiful as that cover and yes, VERY explicit. I paid about $22 at BD, but it’s hardcover and just gorgeous.

I read this one thanks to Ingela's review, and I said to myself, why not? It was a comic, it was short, I had a little while... It was fun! I'm glad I read this, although normally I would avoid the topic like it was Voldemort!

Because Stockholm Syndrome is a short way to describe it.

The long way would be: it's a comic, it's a pirate story, just forget that thing and enjoy!

I'm glad I blinded myself because the pictures are damned erotic, and beautiful. It's a very simple plot and for an hour or so it's very enjoyable ;) .

Note that the "historical" tag is used very loosely here. :)

This is a fun graphic novel, with skimpy writing -- it glosses over a lot of things, very minimalist -- but gorgeous art. It's a wild celebration of Stockholm Syndrome, but what the heck, it's a fantasy. If you're into m/m, you'll have fun with this.

i read this thinking it was some silly pirate gay smut but instead i am pissed tf off. this had basically no plot and no character-depth whatsover, but the worst thing was that it was filled with rape. the fetishization of rape was crazy in this shit - absolutely intolerable and disgusting. usually i don't rate books with stars, but i have to for this one - can't give it 0 stars, so i'll give it 1.

Graphic Novel

Dreaded pirate Black Wade has a cruel mind and an explosive sexuality. His mercilessness is legendary, but it wavers when he encounters the young and warm-hearted English officer Jack Wilkins. these two absolutely different men are prisoners to their fate. overwhelmed by their passion they unite in a fight for freedom and love.

Age of sail pedants, abandon ship. But everyone else, climb aboard for a fruity and surprisingly touching naughty-cal romp. (Yes, I know. I’m shameless.)

The review is under a cut because I’ve included pictures which are not for minors. It’s a very predictable story, and anyone who has read any m/m book involving pirates will not be at all surprised with the plot. Black Wade is another “have him washed and brought to my cabin” type, and yes there’s a fair amount of rape portrayed in this story. And for those of you who really dislike “rape turns to love” are going to want to stay away. But I have to say, it’s not a one-sided thing, as Wade begins to love his captor, Jack Wilkins, just as much as the other way round.

But really, it’s all about the drawings which are very beautiful. I don’t have much knowledge of Graphic Novels but I really liked the look of these pictures. I’m used to the frontispieces and the introductory pages being showcase pages with all the talent on show, but the quality is pretty much standard throughout, it’s not “one quality for the front and a lower quality for the panels.” There’s a particular emphasis on lighting, which I really liked, the way the lanterns in the claustrophobic cabins cast light on naked flesh or half clad bodies. Yaoi this certainly isn’t. The men are manly men–and if Jack is a little lighter in build and height than Black Wade, it doesn’t mean he’s girly in any way at all.

It’s very sexually graphic and there are cocks everywhere, so not a book to be found by your grandma–and yes, everyone has washboard abs, but there are hairy chests and scars to be found, even if all the crew are hot, half dressed and horny. Can’t say I blame them. I very much doubt that the ship is accurate, or the sails but I didn’t buy it for that, after all. However, it’s not all sex, there’s an exciting fighting section, and a terrible storm (which gets Wilkins out of his captivity.)

For a sexual novel, which it doesn’t shy away from being, it certainly “does what it says on the tin” as it were, and it’s a keeper for me, for that–and for the stunning artwork.
