The nightmares found me, like they promised they would. The guys I'm falling for, they're even darker than they seem. So I ran. But the nightmares have allies and they'll hold me until the guys come for me. What I learn is the worst part of all. What I saw that night—it's the least of my worries. Our enemies are coming for us. I'm part of the nightmare now. And I'm going after our enemies first. Dusk Bay will learn who holds the real power here. This is a reverse harem, mafia romance, with adult themes and people who just can't let grudges go.
I really want to give this story more stars but there isn't much there. It's just blah. Nothing worth remembering. Just a naive girl who was sheltered until she got sucked into a crime family and their world. Yeah she's defiant, but there is no spice what's so ever. The sex scenes blow chunks, and it doesn't keep you on edge. Man, I wish it was so much better.
After reading Bait (Book 1 in the Dark Masque series by Maggie Alabaster and Jo Bradley), I couldn't even breathe, I HAD to know what happened!! I unceremoniously dove right off the deep end, anxiously wanting to continue the story. Book 2 absolutely did NOT dissapoint!
Prey picks up right where Bait ends, and comes back swinging in full force. Along with incredible world building, character and plot development, there is also all of the drama, action, and feels! I was immediately hooked, and along for the ride, that before I knew it, was over.
Kennedy is finally hoping to put her past behind her, when it violently comes back to bite her in the butt. Completely freaked out, and more than a little scared, she runs. Only to end up back where she started. As things start coming to light, she begins to discover some things about herself. Maybe she's not as innocent as she thought.
Again, I was on the edge of my seat, unbreathing with heart racing by the end. Here's hoping Trap (Book 3), is coming soon!! I HAVE to know what's going to happen, and how it all ends!
Yes, the twists and turns of the story kept you wondering "what next?" Most was the kind of violence that a person could agree to, the bad guys are really bad and-wait, there are no good guys. Even the female character has developed a darker side. So after facing her deepest fears, Kennedy has conceded that being around Mannix, Ice and Ares is the plus side of good sex, fun and games in mob life. Even to where she is willing to take one of the other families down a notch or two. Although, I miss Charlie at the gym. So a couple of the foursome are captured after a..........Wait. I'm not going to give the ending away. Just saying if you're having as much fun with this series as I am, you won't be disappointed. Thank you Maggie and Jo. On go book 3.
This is the second book in this series and continues straight on from where Bait ended. Kennedy is trying to put the past behind her, when is comes back to haunt her, and being scared she runs, but her guys find her. Kennedy recognizes that she is as dark, dirty, and depraved just like her guys and she embraces it. This is a well written fast paced reverse harem romance, which is action packed, dark, raw, gritty, intense, and intriguing, with drama, emotions, challenges, family, friendships, enemies, and leads to an unpredictable, twisted, and entertaining page turner, which had me on tenterhooks throughout. I look forward to reading more from these talented authors’ whose work I highly recommend.
Ugh, I just expected more from this book. The first book ended on a cliffhanger that I really though left the door open to let this book get dark or get the group really solidified. Well none of that really happened. Nothing of substance really happened expect towards the end but even then I was kinda confused who the twins were and how they came into this. Kennedy was somehow worse in this book. Whiny and continually shocked the whole time. I hate what the did with her mom. The first book they had a great relationship and now all of a sudden her mom doesn’t approve of her choices? I don’t like that. I don’t know at all where this is going and if there had been more dynamics between the harem development, I could’ve overlooked the lack of plot development but Ares is still fighting this and not being part of the group. Here’s to hoping book three pulls this all together.
XXX! ADULT CONTENT, READER DISCRETION ADVISED. This is a very dark and violent story. PTSD due to blood and violence could be triggered. Kennedy ran. As soon as she figured out who she was in bed with. Only she didn’t get far. Mannix, Ice and Ares tracked her down within 20 minutes of her attempt to escape. She and the boys have a heart to heart and salvaged their less than average relationship. She also became the brains behind an attack on their enemies. She finds herself in a tight spot when things don’t go according to plan. Not the good kind either.
This was seriously awesome. Long gone is the sweet naive virginal Kennedy, and in her place is a woman who is just as dark, dirty and depraved as her guys. It's amazing to see her true self emerge and how she accepts her own darkness and that if the guys. And that torture/ sex scene was 🔥🔥🔥🥵🥵
It was also fun to meet the evil twins again from Saving Abbie, still as evil and self serving as ever, definitely my favourite bad guys.
Oh, but what a cliffhanger!! I can't wait til August for the last book!
Prey Maggie Alabaster, Jo Bradley Format: ebook Genre: Dark Romantic Suspense, Mafia, RH Standalone: Nope Part of a Series: Book 2 in the Dark Masque Trilogy Steam Level: Hot POV: Kennedy, Ice 5/5
Prey is the second book in the Dark Masque trilogy and starts right where the first one ends. In Prey Kennedy finds out who were guys are and also learns a lot about herself and her darker side. This story was dark and intense from the start. I cannot wait to read the conclusion.
Story 3.75⭐️ Spice 3🌶️ **Rating the series as a whole** I enjoyed this series, but it could have been better. There were several inconsistencies, especially between books. For example, Mannix says his father doesn’t know about the virus, then in the next book Leo actually sent them. That is just one example, there were several similar instances. It made the books less cohesive. Overall, I enjoyed the premise of the series and the characters as well. I appreciate that the books are relatively short but they still get the point across.
Kennedy ran when she discovered just who Mannix, Ice and Ares were, but she didnt get far before shes back in their arms, but troubles not far off for them, can they make it out together? well written steamy part 2 and ends on a cliff-hanger, leaving you craving book 3!.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I gave this a chance from the blurb it sounded like she would resist and fight back. But no she runs away and 1 hour later she is back to the guys and no more resistance since they are great kissers and boring I wanted resistance reluctance to be with killers but all i got was girl thats always horny and decides since their hot and all its ok boring.
Oh my goodness! These cliff hangers will take your breath away but they pick up right where they drop off in the next book which is awesome!! This story is completely captivating. There is a perfect amount of steam mixed with thrill and intrigue. It’s amazing!! Can’t wait to see what comes next!!
This book is exactly what you get when young blood males try one upping the head rooster. It made it very realistic from that aspect. From a syndicate type point of view not very loyal.
There was far too much gore and violence in this for me to totally enjoy, even with the hotness! Still well written, characters evolving and going to read the next book as wasn’t to find out what happens in the end.
Well unlike the first boon this one wasn't as predictable and it was much shorter still it captured me and I couldn't stop reading. On to the next book
This was a great continuation of the first book. I love how Kennedys relationship with the boys continues to grow. Her relationship between ares is finally growing more. And of course we have been blessed by ice’s comedy. He always leaves me grinning.
