Drake Bell and Josh Peck are as different as two kids can be-- the only things they share are their families and their room!
Drake and Josh have finally had it with Megan and her endless pranks. They decide that it's time to prank her back . . . and they've got the perfect plan. They get Megan to believe that aliens are talking to her via the radio. From there, it's just a short step to dressing up as aliens to try and scare her, but suddenly there's another alien wandering around. Have Drake and Josh discovered the ultimate ET?
Based on the episodes: Alien Invasion and The Demonator.
A few weeks ago I decided to reread the entire Drake and Josh book series before I read the final one - which I had recently acquired after years of searching. There are seven books in the series so I devoted one book per day of the week. It was all going well until, the day I read the fourth book, I discovered Drake Bell was under fire for allegedly abusing his ex girlfriend. I immediately sided with the victim and while I agree some people may want to stay neutral on this, there's no denying the public information that she was 16 and he was 18 when they dated. As such, I have no respect nor support Drake Bell. I've stopped listening to his music and will never watch another show he's been in. But I just couldn't leave these books alone. So, I've decided, because I'd already bought these books, reading them and reviewing them isn't supporting him in any way. It's a lot like Harry Potter. J.K. Rowling is a terf piece of shit, but there's nothing wrong with liking Harry Potter as long as you don't support Rowling herself.
I'll admit I was probably too generous to the other books purely because of my bias towards the show, in the end these are just episodes written down and while they're fun they could be more original. I loved the first of these books because I'd never seen those episodes, so I just hope the episode selection for the books I'm about to read were good enough. But I haven't watched the show itself in a while so who knows.
Notes on the first story: Alien invasion Dan Schneider always had something to say about hobos. A few lines in the first story really made me cackle, it's hard to capture onscreen humour into writing like this for a young audience, but it does it well. What is it with gross-out humour? It isn't funny, it just grosses me out. They really let a little girl Megan's age stay home alone at night? That's so out of character.
Notes on the second story: The Demonator. Oooo Star Trek reference "If he's mauled by a bear"- AHHH TWILIGHT REFERENCE This is really good development for the relationship between Drake and Megan, they're authentic siblings. "That's just what a German would say!" Is iconic. I love Craig and Eric, such underrated characters. The way Drake figures out time toward the end of the book is SO me.
