I'm in my 40's now, and finally living my lifelong dream of loving all my jobs. I still work in psychology, I farm, I write—and I have a blast.
I'm southern by birth, and I've lived in the south most of my life. My foothill farm is beautiful, and I couldn't ask for a better place to live or write. I find inspiration, peace, joy, and beauty in my family, my home, the woods, and the love of all my many animals. And I do have a lot of animals. I mean, a lot. Dogs, cats, chickens, turkeys, peafowl, guineas, ducks, geese, and oh, yeah—a parrot. Who is a perfect parrot-pain, but I do love him.
Urban fantasy, high fantasy, futuristic science fiction, and historical fantasy are my favorite genres to write or to read. I write almost every day, and I try to finish at least one manuscript every few months. In between time spent practicing psychology, writing, tending the animals, and spending time with my family, I also try to dedicate a few hours to playing my guitar and piano, photography, playing video games, watching old movies, and walking.

This book scared the crap out of me and I might need therapy for the rest of my life! *shudders*
Here's the gist: Alan and Celia have been trying to spice things up in the bedroom with a little D/s play, but neither is experienced on the subject and, to be honest, she doesn't trust him enough to let herself be completely dominated by him. So they seek the advice of an experienced Dom - who happens to be her freakin' boss! - and they get more than they bargained for... Well, to be fair, they were more than happy with what they got; it's me who couldn't take what they got.
This book contains hardcore BDSM scenes, so if you're a wuss like me, stay away from it. This is a very short story, but those scenes were vivid enough to make me cringe and whimper all the way through them. At one point, Celia was in so much pain that she fainted! I wanted to faint right along with her, so I could take a break from that nightmare, but alas, my eyes stayed open and glued to the pages. You know how it is: you don't want to look but can't turn away.
The thing that scared me the most in this story was the feeling that Alan wasn't in full control of his Dom side. It was his 1st time and his mentor, Celia's boss, was there to coach him, but I felt that things got out of control when Celia fainted. Sure, Celia could have stopped everything using her safe word, but she was so out of it that she wasn't capable of thinking anymore. Alan's mentor noticed that and instructed him to pay more attention to his sub, but it was too little, too late. BDSM "plays" (I don't know if that's the right term) aren't supposed to render your partner unconscious, are they? I finished the book fearing for Celia's safety, because I didn't know when Alan would master his Dom side.
So, this book wasn't for me, but if you're a fan of BDSM, you might enjoy it.
