Rate this book

Darien and Brennus have been together ever since that fateful night when they banished the evil Vortimere; but all is not bliss. Darien want-s Brennus to make him a vampire so that they can truly be together. Brennus can-t bear to take Darien-s life. This disagreement threatens to tear them apart once and for all.

Meanwhile Brennus has been hearing a voice in his head, one which won-t stop talking to him, telling him its time to pay for his immortality-a voice which has come for his soul.

As the Feast of the dead approaches and the spirits come to life, vampires walk and all is not as it seems.

I write not only for my own pleasure, but for the pleasure of my readers. I can’t remember a time in my life when I haven’t written and told stories. When I’m not writing, I’m dreaming about writing, doing something wild and adventurous, or trying to make the world a better and more open minded place to live in. I adore beautiful men, and I know I’m not alone in this! Eroticism between consenting adults, in all its many forms is the icing on the cake of life!

I loved the first book but I hated this one, there's only betrayal everywhere and the vampire still has the guts to blame the witch, when he was the first to start the betrayal, the vampire was nothing but cowardly half the entire book, then more betrayal and a shit ending that I didn't understand at all.

A brief overview: There's trouble in paradise when Brennus had second thoughts about changing Darien into a vampire. A lovers tiff leave Darien vulnerable. The subsequent attack by a second vampire, a mystery 'voice' and an apprentice of very brief longevity leave Darien a vampire anyway, but not as we know him, Jim...in other words the lights are on but Darien is no longer in residence. It's definitely someone far nastier! Getting Darien 'back', especially when no one knows Darien is no longer in control of his body turns out to be the real trick.

Unfortunately, I have to say I was pretty disappointed by this one. The writing was okay, my main issue was that the story didn't really feel resolved to me. It just sort of fizzled out. The main bad guy not only didn't feel defeated, but could still pose a very real and present danger IMO. At which point I'm wondering why the story suddenly ended. The relationship between Brennus and Darien didn't really feel 'repaired' or enriched or even satisfying to me either. And I was left with many questions and loose ends - what happens to Anita when she goes back to the coven after helping Brennus and working with Zendle? What about Anna? Hell...isn't anyone wondering what happened to Karl by now (he's the dead/disappeared appretice BTW)? Finally, there was a real sense of confusion for me at the end about what happened to make this story possible at all. The world building once again just didn't click for me. I don't want to give too much away, but I had similar issues and then some as I had with the first in this series - how can someone have the same soul and be so diametrically opposite? How did Brennus became a vampire (I thought I had it...now I'm not so sure)? Is there a hell and the devil? If not, how did this premise happen ('casue I'm lost Totto!)? Overall, it's a pretty dark piece. Definitely not standard modern vampire heros, so that's interesting, but...yeah...maybe this series just isn't for me. I fully admit that maybe I'm just not 'getting' it. I'm not sorry I read it exactly, but I'm not sure I want to rush out and read the next book. Recommended for fans of D J Manly for sure and anyone that's wanting to step away from 'romantic' vampires while still having a vampire hero.

It was quite a while ago I read book one in the series and it took me a while to get back into it. The 'unpleasant events' in this one outweigh the 'pleasant events', making it less enjoyable for me. I have the next two in the series, but I suspect there will be another lengthy gap before I read the next installment.
