“‘Nobody’s just mean.’” - Rereading this after probably a decade, but I still remember Alicia, Chelsea, Rainbow, and Lexi. This is a special edition, so Katie switcheroos twice in this book (a raccoon she was leaving food for but shouldn’t have, and Alicia who was mean but was masking sadness).
It's a cute book. The whole "switcheroo" concept felt unnecessary after the first switch, and detracted from the overall story somewhat. That said, if your young reader struggles with the concept of empathy, this can potentially help them work it out.
I love the pictures. It’s nice that she gets to understand the mean girl and make friends with her. It’s also nice that she was the new girl at camp. Good variety of characters.

It would be fun to go to camp, but I would miss my pet (if I had one) too! I can't believe green team won the color war! It was awesome! And I can't believe the meanest person at camp (and rudest) made them win by writing a poem. But the magic wind turned Katie into Alicia and Katie/Alicia let them down because she didn't go to the swim race. She was too scared she wouldn't win and people would make fun of Alicia and hate her even more.

Cute little story about a girl that can switch places with people. Great way of showing young readers what it is like to walk in other people's shoes; or in one instance some creature's paws. Super quick read. My niece left this at my home and I read it in less than 3 hours. Would have been done sooner but I was watching an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent.
It would be fun to go to a camp just like Katie Kazoo, but it wouldn't be fun to go away from my family for 2 weeks! That's just too long to go away. Maybe when I'm older, I'll feel different about it and go to one.
