One of the greatest figures of wisdom and knowledge in the Indian history is Chanakya. Chanakya is regarded as a great thinker and diplomat in India who is traditionally identified as Kautilya or Vishnu Gupta. Originally a Professor of economics and political Science at the ancient Takshashila University, Chanakya managed the first Maurya emperor Chandragupta's rise to power at a young age. Instead of acquiring the seat of kingdom for himself, he crowned Chandragupta Maurya as the emperor and served as his chief advisor. chanakya NEET I in Tamil is a treatise on the ideal way of life, and shows Chanakya's deep study of the Indian way of life. These practical and powerful strategies provide a path to live an orderly and planned life. If these strategies are followed in any sphere of life, victory is certain. Chanakya also developed Neeti-Sutras (aphorisms - pithy sentences) that tell people how they should behave. Chanakya used these sutras to groom Chandragupta and other selected disciples in the art of ruling a kingdom. But these sutras are also relevant in this modern age and are very useful for us..
Before you begin reading this book, you have to definitely remind yourself to agree to disagree. To be honest, I found his views on caste and women terribly irritating! It's more saddening to think that the man who had a really powerful role in the Mauryan Empire believed and preached these notions. That said, his strategies on administration and his views on political science are totally relevant even today and no wonder he was/is regarded as an extraordinary diplomat and a perfect counsel to the Maurya emperor. The Neeti-Sutras, it seems, were used by Chanakya to groom Chandragupta and other selected disciples in the art of ruling a kingdom and in my opinion, they would make an excellent study material on Management/Administration. I am rating this book 3 stars for the painful translation and the lack of elaborate explanations on some sutras.
I am disappointed in this book considering how popular it is in India.
This book is full of misogynistic and casteist comments which are no longer relevant in the present time along with many contradictions(which might be due to poor translation). But if you just ignore those parts, you will find that there are still some gems that are very helpful today. They are the only reason I am rating this book 3*. It is worth reading this book for them but be sure to take it all with a pinch of salt.
Also, one particular issue that might be (hopefully) only for my particular edition(2014): Spelling mistakes. It is so bad as if a child typed it.
Vishnu Gupta, popularly known as Chanakya, was a scholar in Economics and Political Science who taught as a professor in Takshashila University. He was the chief advisor to the King Chandragupta Maurya and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Mauryan empire.
This book, written by him, comprises of neetis and sutras. While the neetis aim at the cultivation of virtues and wisdom, the sutras contain the rules for enterprise and life management.
Chanakya Neeti is a discourse on the ideal way of life and shows Chanakya's deep understanding of people and society. Some of these are extremely powerful strategies that one can employ in order to live an orderly and planned life.
Chanakya used these sutras to train Chandragupta and other selected disciples in the art of ruling a kingdom. To this day, the teachings continue to be as relevant as ever.
Arthashastra describes about the persons way of living, relationships,finance,loans..
About Chanakya- Chanakya was an ancient Indian teacher, philosopher, economist, jurist and royal advisor. He is traditionally identified as Kauṭilya or Vishnugupta, who authored the ancient Indian political treatise, the Arthashastra, a text dated to roughly between the 4th century BCE and the 3rd century CE.
I would recommend this to someone who loves non fiction and wants to change their way of living

Book is good , you will get sanskrit transcription which many other authors doesn't publish in their books and sometimes for me it is hard to understand their High level english and exact essence of what that sentences is actually meant . With sanskrit transcription , I can understand the real essence of what Chanakya said actually .
I like the discription part which is done by author in very simple english , even a 10 year old kid can understand with basic english knowledge what he meant to say . there are more than 250 Slokas with their english translation as well and you can even use english pronounciation if you lack Sanskrit knowledge that's also very great . I haven't seen any other book on chanakya Neeti so I just can't guage how much good or bad this book is , But I will try to get some if possible . For now this book seems genuine
This work is, from the viewpoint of a person living in 2017, a mixture of wise sayings, redundant advice (no longer applicable in the present age) and plainly wrong/bad beliefs. Chanakya's views on women seem to be extremely regressive. You would be very hard pressed to find even a single good verse about women in this work. Towards the end, in the Chanakya Sutra, he simply declares "women are the root of all evil". Also, try not to read the interpretation given in parenthesis unless you really cannot understand the meaning of the English translation. Because the person who wrote the interpretation has tried to bring some of Chanakya's more problematic views into line with modern views, or contextualised them.
A person whose role was so strong in the Mauryan empire, and I am amazed at how simply I can say I agree to disagree. Of course not everything he wrote was unwise, but his beliefs on women were really irritating. But I have come to a sad conclusion that mythology, religion and age old scriptures have a tendency, the same redundant beliefs, but the very same religion says, "change is the only constant." So probably, that belief has to be changed. On the other hand, I think everything else that he said was to the point more or less, and adapting them into one's life could surely be wise. It is not in nothing that book has been reffered to as the road to wisdom.
I believe the book is a great read for someone who is not introduced to the Bhagvad Gita or I guess any other faith/Dharma related book . I have read it and few of the teachings are overlapping. As I am not able to spend much of the time reading the varied texts covering such topics, it's difficult to comment on these. But I always believe that it depends upon the context of the individual reader what he/she takes out of these books. Overall it's an awesome process of thought and observations of Chanakya during his times.
Acharya Chanakya is attributed to have compiled these aphorisms. The metaphors at that time must have been crucial components of Chanakya's perspective and approach. While the book's material may seem sexist, harsh, and occasionally blunt in the modern world, the majority of the neetis and sutras are potent and tried-and-true. A wonderful book to understand about the possible evolution of South Asian philosophy.
Chanakya has been known for stating bitter facts bluntly, just like Arthashastra his quotes in this compilation are his observations of his times and sound advice based on those observations that many will find Politically incorrect/offensive in 21st century. Everyone who can read should be able to decide for themselves to form an opinion about this book and to each their own, definitely worth reading.
Great self help book,Chanakya is a politician fundamentally. Every thought in this book is a proof to this. The things written may be sharp, common knowledge, odd, murky but everything stems from a person who cares more about commongood than anything else and dedicated his life in pursuing it.I commend author's efforts to bring indic knowledge back into general people's consciousness, people like chanakya deserve it.
A lot of harsh and blunt things said throughout. If you want to read something just to make you happy its not the pick for you, cz it might tell you the bitter truths. I realized the mistakes i made in life while reading this book. Its written in points and short chapter. A good read for reality check. Must read once.
Just read 20% of the book, this book does glorify some obsolete idea of womanhood. Although, that has been mentioned in the introduction of book but I believe there would have been some reference to those shlokas which the author has failed to capture and just given a crude translation of the shlokas.
Great book if one wants to know and learn about the basics of functioning of our society. But still there are some aspects where you can't rely on as we people have come a long way ahead in society and its biased and discriminating policies and ideologies.
Some readers may argue that this book is very anti women, but in my opinion this book is something written only for men. The statements are true or at least they were justified at that time .
