I’m not really one to believe in dreams or any of that matter, but I saw that we shared a name and recently I’ve been dreaming constantly of my car crash.
Part I. The Dreams Of A Young Woman Chapter I. The Dreamer “She came to see Cayce not only as a father-figure but almost as a prophet, despite his repeated insistence that she turn to the divine, rather than to him, for her devotions”, that’s terrifying to be seen as such a figure, sometimes things are unexplainable, but how we react tend to reveal more than we realize; self expression is a powerful way to cope.
Chapter II. Levels Of Dreaming “It is the process that appears whenever a person becomes involved in a problem or task; he tends to persevere in it until it is worked through”, funny, almost a month apart and I had another car accident back to back; a pretty gutting I’m in, but I do feel that way, to work and work until some sort of breakthrough happens again. “that anyone who could dream and remember it was capable of learning from dreams, capable of adding conscious insight and behavior to the unconscious impact of the dream experience”, I don’t really find myself learning anything from my dreams, eventually when I do have one, I question more than anything; maybe that’s an answer of sorts, why? I don’t think I have dreams, rather nightmare really; I’ve lucid dreamed, but only whenever was at a lowest pitiful place, I can never truly let go, to reach there again, I’d fall to an awake right before. “the picture of the total person is not complete without including the owner, the best self, or the soul”, this such a cool and beautiful way to talk about someone, which is true, you can never really claim something of someone without ever truly knowing them; even if you did you truly don’t. “for the soul survives death, and consciousness does not”, I love this, such a comforting thought, to think that what I feel and for what I love does truly end and goes away, the sincerity of my soul whether pure or not, will withstand from me, for me.
Chapter III. Solving Problems Through Dreams Kinda funny thought, but I feel like Edgar Cayce is almost just nudging for Frances to just live, like there’s no deeper meaning for her dreams other than dreams; interpretation does bring comfort. There’s been times where I dreamt of just normal things, like seeing a celebrity I’d never imagined to interact with, or faceless memories of someone’s someone; it all tends to be something written and explored, or shared and laughed about. Maybe it’s skepticism, or the mere thought that some things are just experienced, but I don’t really dream much; or it doesn’t feel like it.
Chapter IV. Adventuring Through Dreams “the death of attachment to ‘physical forces,’ preoccupations with physical pleasures and diversions, so that her capacity for serious thought and creativity could be born”, I feel like that’s a universal metamorphosis we can go through, that weirdly follows how I want a relationship now; physicality was something, now I long to see, for what someone is, to love change. “Yet it is not all of life to live, nor all of death to die— Living or dying, the soul must account to itself for all it has thought and done”, I feel like the way for the soul to “account” itself would be mortality itself, knowing that we are not permanent and will long be forgotten, gives us that; those remembered are often remembered, good or bad, as a blessing or warning.
Part II. How To Work With Dreams Chapter V. Cayce’s Skill— And The Dreamers “Where did the individual, in his heart stand with his God”, in a comforting way Edgar Cayce tends to remain vague, very heavy on what they themselves wants; if I were to want it’s because that’s what I want, whether through will or sheer force, the end is near always, I just don’t know or know to realize. Like I said, I don’t really dream, or it’s more of a distinction between dreaming or a nightmare, recently it’s only been nightmares, but it doesn’t really stand a fear in me; reliving of my car accidents, either gruesome or unlikely, it’s always me. “Dreams, too in Cayce’s view, are often occupied with the question of the dreamer’s habitual thoughts”, I feel like there’s a truth in there, despite thinking dreams are just dreams, a fictional experience; I guess I have been almost just thinking about myself, less in a focused way, the crashes kind of made me almost right, I was expecting disappointment, I’ve developed to see everything as such. “He often asked the person before him to compare his life with that Life: despite the reality and usefulness of knowing about past lives, this was the Life that counted”, I’m at a point in my life where I sort of realize there’s no end goal for me, there’s not truly a significant attainment that’ll signify me, myself; I have no want for desires, or fortune or even love, I accept what is given to my most bleak, and love to my fullest, disappointment to it all. I feel like that’s a death of dreams, I can’t be the only one who knows that, it’s easy to say “things aren’t like they used to be”, but they never were; there’s so much at fingertips I’m powerless to really sustain the will to do so, to prove something yet I never thought to prove what?
Chapter VI. Glimpse Of The Laws Of Dreams “He urged his dreamers to get out and play, to take vacations to balance up their wit and reason, to tease and to laugh and to enjoy children”, I like that idea, someone’s inner world depends on their ability to perform their abilities, even if I’m still not such a believer in so, it’s very coincidental to read; like an aspect of individualism, maybe a trick of self improvement that gives the illusion of good fate, if he can’t rightfully interpret, might as well make them find their own worth. “Gullibility was as readily rejected as cynicism; adulation of Cayce accomplished as little as belittling or envy of him”, I really love that you have to be genuine, you can’t just have blind faith, there has to be a genuine why to seek out someone like Edgar Cayce. “The individuality of the soul, within its larger destiny, is like the individuality of a tree, coming from a seed and leaving one after it— true to pattern, yet a unique tree in itself”, language like this always reminds me of Hegel, but I love the idea of an unbeknownst connection between me and us, that we branch off from the main consensus that we share, us ourselves become that connection into even smaller connections; greater world to my world to yours but it’s never made apparent, like the six degrees of separation.
Chapter VII. How To Recall Dreams “While a dream can unfold a dreamer’s weakness of character, so can deep introspection. While a dream may offer an essay on the laws of consciousness so can a dreamer’s hard study and incubation of them”, I love how dreams aren’t the main distinctive answer for remedy, even if a dream is vivid and unexplainable, give or take it still can help with self reflection and self discovery; you are what makes of it. “Yet the essential study is not books but experience, and above all the study, slow unfoldment of the dreamer’s psyche— where one can see by careful comparisons (not morbid introspection) all of the creative patterns at work that also govern nature and the realms of the spirits around them”, what a way to live, philosophically in itself, weirdly enough being pretty low and having no mode of transport, including immense shame; it’s like an numbing peace as I look at those who ride the public transport with me, a comparison of grief, my suffering to their normalcy, day to day it confines to be continued, indifferent not because. “The peril is there because the peril is in the human being. His unfathomed potential is always batched by the unfathomed freedom of his will”, self doubt can really deteriorate an individuals sense of self, but it always temporary, its when one truly does believe where the deterioration earns; you can’t force someone to be something, unless they themselves see it for themselves, sometimes you won’t know what you’re looking at.
Chapter VII. How To Start Interpreting Dreams “One interprets a dreamer, not a dream”, I really like this statement, it’s always a verb easy conversation starter to just try and interpret any weird dreams I tend to have, whether introspective or not, it’s a joy to make sense of something; even if I could never fathom. “Dreams are intended to change the dreamer somehow, not only informing him”, I like the use of the word “somehow”, it shows humility and also reminds that Edgar Cayce isn’t all knowing, there’s no right answer to what pertains to a dream and what it truly means; whether brain matter displaying colors of chemicals or a higher being, it happened because it happened, so it makes me feel something. “They were to work out their own philosophy of life, so that their whole minds might operate with conviction, right down through the subconscious to the soul”, I feel like I don’t have an own philosophy that I follow, I’m almost lost in a sense, I know there’s a difference between me, myself and others; it becomes apparent whenever I realize how other live, it feels like I don’t have a luxury of being so upset over the menial that I possess. It’s a mix of liberating and almost claustrophobic, no given end goal and I’m left to overcompensate by not truly feeling fulfilled; rather the process of, than actual progress made, I have things yet myself am too unwell or unable to function properly, I function but with no desire, an automation until the next feeling of a feeling comes again. “It is the way of growth. First the dreamer must change and grow”, that’s not really a subject that pertains to merely just dreams, it’s a universal truth, the thing is, if I constantly change, constantly grow, then wouldn’t what I’ve grown had been outgrown; kind of an obvious answer, but if I had to change for something to be clear or of, then why change inherently to begin with, if it’s only to be replaced with another replacement?
Part III. Esp In Dreams Chapter IX. Dreams Of The Future And The Unknown Present “The subconscious sees things laid out endlessly, just as they are presently headed, until the dreamer uses his will to change them”, whenever I tend to have déjà vu about current events, like an ongoing conversation, or something so to my day to day; I’d dream about it, or I’d see it before I realize I’ve experienced it before, or it’d be an illusion of experiencing something but it’s new or it seems to be. I always mention it right as it happens, and it’ll usually won’t be understood or really acknowledged. I remember my girlfriend said along the lines of “it just means you’re on the right path”, when she brushed her hair a certain way, or something that told me before that I’ve been with her before prior to knowing what, and I’d argue or agree, but why? It all feels linear or almost pre determined if I were to just ignore this common sensation. It’s a peculiar experience, I’d always sound crazy stating that I’ve seen this before, but it truly does feel that way; it’d be the littles things too, it’s almost like a reminder, a state of being that I’m still alive.
Chapter X. Dream Of The Living Dead “In some ways, the hardest lesson for Cayce to pound into his dreamers, when they became convinced of the reality of life beyond the grave, and if shared work with discarnates, was that they should not try to prove their view to others by psychic feats”, I love the act of not letting delusion take a mantle, the unexplained can remain unexplained, but it’s only real if you a virtue comes from it, sometimes I feel things in ways I won’t comprehend myself, if it’s shared and brought a fond fruition for another, there’s a worth in that; even if I don’t tend to know or care for it. “For, if individuals were as mindful of what they have been as they are if what they are to be this would become a much more interesting as well as a purposeful experience; for then, as He gave, those being in guard do not allow their houses, their own selves or their mental abilities, to be broken up”, speechless, I don’t really add much to the statement, other than an awe; it’s not something that’s coherently deep or methodical, it’s acknowledgment for what we are. Again, I find myself almost reading a book wrong, it’s not skepticism but I can never really fully integrate to a said skill or idea; I have to apply from failure to learn, I hardly dream anymore, and I think that’s a reflection to what I’m constantly thinking about, nothing, but for a little moment something will remind me of something, I believe that’s a grasp from the linear experience it’s so believed to be.
Part IV. Self-Development Through Dreams Chapter XI. Through Dreams To A Healthy Body “Man develops the soul, in that experience (or lifetime) along its plane of existence”, I think conceptually, a soul is the acclamation of the individual without the need for perception or understanding, it’s what desires a desire, selfishness through gratuity, the end product that never changes; it’s different from the self, it isn’t learned or inherited, always greater despite feeling otherwise, universal but self induced.
Chapter XII. Orienting The Life Through Dreams “Souls are not judged by absolute standards— They are judged by their fidelity to their own ideals, their own understanding. And they are not judged by their failures so much as by their willingness to get up and try again”, very humanizing and uplifting to hear, giving up is probably one of the most common choices to make, I can almost remember why something doesn’t work out, ambition or relationship; it’s a conundrum of a feeling. Weird, but I usually don’t feel better speaking of my woes, I kind of just accept it and not necessarily move on, I simply just move, regardless for how I feel; which I grieve sometimes, it’s not necessarily unhealthy, I simply feel the need to continue, even if I’m no longer in the moment. “It is better— for an individual to be doing something with his life, even if it is wrong, than nothing at all— just drifting”, it’s easy to say, I just can never feel like there’s a grasp of direction, specifically, my direction to what I want, even the times where a decision is “good” or contributes to motion, it still doesn’t register or seems to be; very condemning to hear, weirdly as a I had a slight déjà vu reading that exact thought. Around the end it got pretty cluttering with the religious talk, no disrespect to any regard, it’s comforting actually. As I read throughout this book, my life has significantly worsened, I’m at a new low, I’ve been lower, but it’s a different form of mal health; heroin is a scarier remembrance. I don’t really know how to express, I’ve simply just lost the ability to dream, or I just don’t remember to forget, funnily I didn’t pick this book up to achieve or gain anything, I just have the same first name; the second crash from then on out, I’ve stopped dreaming in general, things happen, it’s a shame really.

Anche qui le istruzioni su come far funzionare i sogni, non ci sono. In realtà è un volume che parla esclusivamente dei casi di Cayce. Forse all'avanguardia per gli anni '30, ma ora non più.
Somewhat rambling. But, some good dream analysis content. What is fascinating however, was that Cayce was doing what Freud and Jung later publicized and became famous for; dream analysis and archetypes. Makes you wonder........
