It's time again to journey into the deepest, darkest, most terrifying recesses of Marvel history, so make sure you've got batteries in your flashlight and prepare yourself for another deadly dose of pre-Code horror!
In 1953, the gloves were off - and for a thin dime you could experience all the horrors of the human imagination as portrayed in despondent four-color "gory". So if you're the sort that likes weird and shocking tales, shamble on up for ten issues of wall-to-wall zombies, ghosts, vampires, and devil-dealing, ne'er-do-wells illustrated by the very best of the Atlas Era!
Sometimes I just like to sit down and read something written when there wasn't an instant backlash of PC crap on what the story contained. It's a story to read and enjoy. Sometimes it's got good art and plot sometimes it's just a crappy horror/supernatural story from back in the day. Nice collection of these stories to escape into. Recommended
Mostly mediocre comics shockers, primarily in the horror vein, but there is also the occasional SF or crime story. Many are silly, many are predictable, but there is the occasional stand-out, such as the one about the friendly ghost trying to save a trapped child, but who just keeps scaring off anyone he meets. Also a mixed bag, art-wise; there is some decent work, but nothing exceptional, and a few pretty dire jobs. Inessential.
Some of these old Atlas anthologies can get a little repetitive or the stories can be predictable, but this is a sensational collection. Some really creepy awesome art as well!
While inferior to their peers at EC Comics, these old Atlas Horror titles are a lot of fun. The artwork and writing vary in quality, but there is generally something enjoyable in each story.
