It's Baby Rooster's job to wake everybody up in the morning, but there's just one problem—he doesn't know how! The pigs and cows and ducks all try to help, but nothing seems to work. Luckily, the wise old owl comes to the rescue.
This is a funny, noisy, quack-along story from Ivor Baddiel and Sophie Jubb, beautifully illustrated by Ailie Busby. Full of friendly farmyard animals, young children will love joining in with the Baby Rooster and laughing when he doesn't get it quite right.
Baby Rooster keeps trying to wake everybody up in the morning but he isn't sure what to say. With the help of several farmyard animals Baby Rooster tries some pretty cute and zany things. I read this for storytime and the kids really enjoyed making the animal noises. They all giggled when Baby Rooster said "Cock-a-Poodle-Poo!"

Used this book in my "down on the farm" story times and it was VERY well-received! I think young children like the fact that they KNOW what Baby Rooster should be saying - and there's a lot of comedy in the phrases he tries before he gets it right.
I didn't care for this one. I've seen this same concept done better in other stories--I thought this one was redundant and boring. And I didn't like that the bottom half of the baby rooster was blue; it made it hard to tell what exactly he was at a glance.
Baby Rooster knows he's supposed to wake everyone up on the farm, but he isn't quite sure how to do that. He asks other animals what they say and gives it a try himself -- pretty sure this one will humor the toddlers in storytime! Planning to use for a farm-themed storytime.

A baby Rooster has the job of waking up everyone on the farm. He asked each animal how he should wake them up. Each animal has an opinion, but none seem to work until the barn owl gave baby Rooster an idea.
The bright, oversize illustrations and comedy of the various rooster calls may have little ones laughing. I'm not sure how rooster learned the "correct" version though, except that it just came to him. After some rather heavy-handed reminders to listen.
A baby rooster learns through trial and error what sounds he must crow in the morning to wake up the rest of the farm. This is a great book for any storytime presentation. Filled with big, colorful illustrations, it's easy for kids to follow along as it's read to them. Following a baby rooster that isn't sure what to crow in the morning to wake everyone up, he goes around the farm and asks various animals what they say. It's a great book to get the kids involved as you read to them. A great book for any library collection.
Little Rooster knows he is supposed to wake the farm up but he's not sure how. So he asks each of the animals in turn what they say. After talking to the pigs Little Rooster tries to wake everyone up with Cock-a-Doodle Oink! Oink! After the cows: Cock-a-Doodle Moo! Moo!
This goes on until Cat suggests he talk to Owl. Owl sets him on the right path. The next morning, it takes Little Rooster a couple of tries, but he finally gets it right.
Baby Rooster doesn't know what to say in order to wake everyone up in the morning. So he starts asking the other animals on the farm. He tries waking everyone up in the morning by using cock-a-doodle oink oink, cock-a-doodle moo moo, etc. but nothing seems to work. So he visits the wise old owl for some advise.
A cute story that will get kids imitating the different animal sounds and laughing along with the silly ways baby rooster comes up with for waking the animals up.
What a cute way to learn about the farm animals and the sounds they make. I am in love with this baby roster, I could imagine a stuff animal made from it!
This one my son enjoyed more than me. Of course he would, given that there are farm animals, animal sounds and cute illustrations. I just had a hard time understanding the ending where by listening closely the little rooster was able to figure out cock a doodle doo from... where exactly? Maybe I want it to be too literal and easy to figure out from a 3 1/2 yr old's POV.
Will definitely have to use this for preschool story time in the future. It went over well with the toddlers, as well. They especially loved "cock-a-poodle-poo" and "cock-a-noodle-noo". Lots of giggling on those pages! I'm not really sure why animal sounds books are such a sure-fire hit, but they really are, especially when animals are saying the wrong sounds.
Baby Rooster has to wake the farm up, but doesn't know what to say. After many failed attempts asking the other animals what they say, he consults the wise owl who advises him to listen and the rest will come to him. Listening works, though it takes a few tries. Acrylic illustrations.
This was only okay for me; other books have used this idea to greater effect. Toddlers and PreK.
Good for PreK storytime. The students enjoyed making the different crowing sounds. For phonological awareness we talked about how the beginning letter and sound changed each time. Held up the letter W, R, B, etc. - identified the letter, the sound and then said it all together..."Cock-a-Woodle-Woo"! Lots of fun and silliness!
Baby Rooster asks pig and cow how to wake everyone up. Owl gives the best advice, which is to be quiet and listen. Children love making the animal noises to match the book. Cock-a-poodle-poo isn't completely right, but Baby Rooster does it right.
Very funny/cutie patootie book about a little rooster learning how to wake up the farm animals. He gets it all wrong of course. He starts with cock a doodle...moo? So he goes to all of his friends hoping to learn the right way to wake up all the animals.
This was a great story time read when we did a Down on the Farm story time. The kids loved it! They laughed and helped with the animals sounds and just got a kick out of the absurdness of it. Definitely a great read aloud for parents, daycares and librarians!
