Alice-Miranda is thrilled to be back at school, where the girls are preparing a play with the neighbouring boys' school. But it's not all glitter and stage lights: there are rumours of a witch in the woods, and Jacinta and Millie are clashing with a rude new student, Sloane, and her pushy mother, September. September Sykes wants to win her family the fortune she's sure it deserves, but her scheme could end in disaster. When Alice-Miranda learns of the plot, she knows just how to set things right.

I never realised how short slightly-evil Sloane’s arc was, but wow September was a piece of work
ALSO SEP AHHHH. I DO SHIP YOU-KNOW-WHO WITH AM BUT HOW DARE JACQUELINE WRITE SEP AS THE PRINCE AND AM AS SNOW WHITE AND NOT ASSUME WE’D SHIP THEM TWO (also we get the “I wish a girl like Alice Miranda was his sister” line from Sep soooo)
I’m useless at picturing characters in my mind (screw you lack of mind’s eye) but I don’t know why I imagine Sep to look like the male version of AM
is Sep blond like Sloane? or does he have brown hair? I will never know (though actually, I’ll probably keep an eye out now)
my 2022 reread so far! 1. Alice Miranda in Scotland (#17) 2. Alice Miranda in Egypt (#20) 3. Alice Miranda at School (#1) 4. Alice Miranda in Holiday (#2) 5. Alice Miranda Takes the Lead (#3)

Besoknya, teman sekamar Jacinta datang.
Alice-Miranda didn't believe in witches. They were only in fairy stories.
This feels both big and small at the same time. There's a play. There's a conspiracy to make a school shut down. There's horse-riding and exploring large creepy manors. There's a new girl who fits Alethea Goldsworthy's shoes but if the shoes were a bit more scuffed. But don't get me wrong, I quite like Sloane. I remember her so well from Alice-Miranda at Sea, my first A-M book ever, so I always thought it so strikingly terrible how she ended up in her current predicament at her age (THEY DID THIS TO HER WHEN SHE WAS LIKE WHAT, 11???). But September Sykes is also endlessly entertaining and I can't get enough of it. I wanna say I do like this a bit more than the previous book but it's insanely hard to top off the whole last act in that one. So my sentiments is that I just look forward to delving into At Sea the second I get back to my library.
Praktis menyenangkan membacanya.
I loved this book, and the storyline was easy to follow, and I wanted to keep reading, so I could find out what happened. I also loved the cover and the blurb was interesting. This book was amazing, and I would read it again.
I don't often read middle grade and this was my first Alice Miranda novel. I can see why they are soo popular. Harvey has such fun with the posh boarding school concept and draws very well rounded, mostly likeable chatacters, except the villains who are Disney-esque in their dastardly plans. Alice Miranda could be annoying but she is just so lovely. A good role model for young female readers. A great, fun read with no fantasy required. Plenty of drama in real life.
I think it was a good book overall. I really can’t say much about it as I started reading it then stopped when I was nearly finished and forgot a lot of stuff. I just think the play really wasn’t the main focus as you would expect.
Finally the madness of the collection of the first three books is over. On top of making the lead characters generally incredibly well-off yet heroic characters, this adds in a sneering slam at nouveau riche types, implying a lot about working class people with aspirations. The plot is once more something labyrinthine and I wouldn't be surprised if, like Rowling, Harvey has a series of improbable hard-bitten detective books for adults on the shelves too. Just dreadful.
Good book but didn't like the ending.Could include a better ending with help of the amazing and relatable characters. It wasn't much of a surprise to me and the book was too obvious
This lightweight, lighthearted series continues to be a literary warm fuzzy that 2nd-4th grade girls will adore. The impossible-to-dislike, irrepressible Alice-Miranda finds herself back at her beloved boarding school, which is a whole different experience now that she's straightened out the lives of everyone there with her genuine warmth & kindness. But things may change when the girls meet the newest student - a girl with a serious attitude problem & a very pushy mother, named Sloane Skyes. Sloane & her unbearable parents are out for one thing during her tenure at the posh school - to meet & befriend as many celebrities & wealthy people as they possibly can. Sloane is obviously hiding something, & her mother may have some very sinister plans indeed, both for the school & the boys' school nearby. Can Alice-Miranda save the day while still enjoying getting to participate in the school play being staged this semester? Luckily, she's got a lot of help on her side...
We return to the posh boarding school of Winchesterfield-Downsfordvale after end-of-term holidays and rejoin the wonderful cast of characters we've come to know and love in books 1 and 2. (If you haven't read the first two instalments of A-M, the author provides plenty of backstory to allow the new reader catch up.)
We meet new characters, some of which are lovely and others rather horrid.
More mysteries are explored and solved; baddies revealed and friends made by the precocious yet charming and admirable Alice-Miranda, a unique little character who sees the best in everyone and manages to influence the most unlikely of people to open up to her.
Lots of drama occurs both on and off the stage, which will have little readers wanting to read more.
I’m reading my way through this series on the recommendation of my 8 year old niece. This has been my favourite so far. A sweet story with a precocious but good natured main character. I liked the adventures she got up to in this one.
