This is a good, but not great, sampler of fantasy written by modern French authors. The sample from a longer work at the front of the book convinced me to search out that novel, which I finished before actually reading this collection all the way through.
The proofreading was iffy in spots, which makes me wonder if the translation was any better. That, in turn, made me wonder if the writing was better in the original French. Still, the stories were enjoyable on the whole, just not outstanding in any way.
The premise of the excerpt, musketeers plus magic, was better than the execution turned out to be, but it was still fun.

february 8th, 2011 think this is under the tv table. only a couple of stories till i finish it.
October 5th, 2011 took this to the New England Library Association conference. Short stories are good for conferences and conventions. Unfortunately none of these are inspiring to read the stories they came from or other works by these authors.

I normally do not read fantasy or much short fiction, but I thought I'd give this a go. It wasn't bad, but not oustanding. The one that stood out for me was To Chloe by Magali Segura. I nearly gave up after the first few pages because of the violence, but I stuck with it and it turned into a very good story.
