He enjoys my company. He delights in listening to me! He doesn’t get bored with my repeated requests. He never makes me feel stupid. There is no rejection, only total acceptance.” --R.T. Kendall in Did You Think to Pray?
This is by far the best book on prayer that I have ever read. It has given me so much freedom and I am definitely spending more time in prayer since I finished reading it a couple of months ago. R.T. Kendall discusses all the different types of prayer and encourages us to pray in freedom. He points out the different ways to pray in Scripture and which prayers were answered. Well would you believe God answers prayers said in faith as well as faithless prayers. Shopping list prayers are fine, just as Holy Spirit led prayers are effective. Let's face it, He is a very big God.
This is a wonderful book. RT Kendall writes as if he's speaking, and his thoughts on prayer are so practical they've really helped me feel more confident about my own prayer life. Using his own experiences and coupling these with scripture, Kendall really pinpoints where our difficulties with prayer come from and what we can do about them. He highlights the reasons why prayer is important - for others, for God and for us, and brings to the forefront the necessity of prayer in an easy to understand format. I have been blessed by this book and hope that other readers are also.
The first time I have read a book by RT Kendall. Full of scriptural references, helpful insights and gentle challenges. Particularly appreciated his sections on thankfulness, on the importance of reading the whole of the Bible, and unwrapping the different parts of the Lord's Prayer. Found his chapter on praying in the will of God a bit of a meander, even after rereading it, but overall this was a helpful book to start the day and focus on Him.
