The Nature of Chaos

Sam

My Life, despite the chaos I’ve created, has always been pretty simple.
People tend to see me for what I am: the jester. The flirt. The f**k-up.
The guy with nothing to lose.
That has always made it a little easier for me to live how I please.
No one to answer to, no one who holds high expectations of me.
So, I have a little fun.
Okay–I have a lot of fun.
But now, a little dove by the name of Katsumi has fluttered into my life.
She's everything I'm not–sweet, soft, and unsullied. She's good–too good for a guy like me.
But the more time I spend with her, the more difficult it becomes to consider the idea of letting her go.
How do you let go of someone when they're perhaps the best thing to ever happen to you?
You open the cage and set them free.

Kat

I'm a pretty simple girl. I follow the rules, I strive to be a good person in everything I do, and I aim to please.
I'm the 'yes' girl. When people ask me to jump, my answer is usually, "how high?"
But what if I don't want to be her anymore?
What if I'm tired of living my life with the sole purpose of pleasing those around me?
What if I want to spread my wings?
Because that’s what Sam Irby makes me want to do, from the very first moment I met him.
By nature, I’m a planner–I’m not a risk taker.
But the more time I spend with Sam, the more I want to test my wings.
They say if you want to fly, you just have to give up everything that weighs you down...
The only problem is making sure that what’s weighing you down isn’t simply yourself.

Imagine going to a physical therapist appointment and finding out your therapist is the girl that ghosted you a few weeks prior at the club. A girl who is completely off limits. And then disregard that because she might just be your dream girl…well, meet Sam Irby.

Sam is a foul mouthed, younger bad boy who loves to eat (everything..and I do mean everything). He’s in recovery in more ways than one and is trying to sort out the chaos that exists in his own head. Sam is such a multi faceted character and he’s got so much depth beyond his party boy/player persona (though the spice in this book…🥵). I’ve read all three books in this series and while I loved Cam and Wes…Sam’s got my heart.

Kat seemingly has all her shit together, or would if it weren’t for the fact her manipulative, narcissistic ex didn’t rip her apart. I also connected with Kat on a personal level and I really loved seeing her grow into her own person throughout the book. She spends so much time trying to make everyone else happy that she doesn’t realize that Sam is what makes her happy. Also that confrontation with her ex at the end…chef’s kiss.

I adored seeing Ivy interact with both Sam and Kat. She really does want what’s best for them in the end.

There is really just so much about this book to love. It’s heartfelt while still dealing with some of the darker elements, such as drug addiction and abusive relationships. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love the little world Rayne has built here. You feel genuinely invested in all of these characters lives.

If you want a scorching romance with lots of “good girls” and a lot of heart, look no further.

”I think we as humans always associate chaos with negativity. But chaos isn’t necessarily a terrible thing. It’s just… confusion. And there is so much beauty within the craziness if you take a moment to really look at it and admire it for what it is.”

Ever since reading The Nature of Time I couldn’t wait to get Sam’s story! And let me tell you it was a ride but it was so worth it!

I connected with these characters so much, way more then I care to admit. But between Kat always putting others before her needs, and Sam’s guilt feeling like everything was his fault. It was just so relatable.

I loved their story so much! They went through so much, but I’m so glad that they met each other. And help each other grow and learn that they can do things that they previously thought that they couldn’t!

I highly recommend this book! And all the other in the series. Because if you haven’t read them you are definitely missing out!

Sam and Kat meet one night at a club and it's instant lust and attraction. Things were going great until Kat ducks out and leaves Sam high and dry without a word. A few weeks later Sam needs physical therapy and is referred to Dr. Yamato, who just so happens to be the same Kat who left him at the club. Sparks are still there between them but both are battling their own types of chaos and unsure if the sparks are worth the risks.

This is the 3rd installment of Rayne's "The Nature of series" and I think it's the most emotional one of them all. Sam is battling addiction and the loss of his father when he meets Kat. Kat just came out of an abusive long-term relationship and is in constant battles with her overbearing mother and is unsure of herself as a whole. Together, Sam and Kat calm the other's chaos and help put back the missing puzzle pieces. I love them together and thoroughly enjoyed their whole dynamic. The spice in this book was definitely kicked up a notch from the previous books (which were definitely spicy in their own right) but Sam's dirty talk and love of 🐱 sent this one higher. I can't wait for the next book/couple!

Ok, so there is a lot to unpack with this one... Let's start with: Chaos is (I think) Rayne's best book of the series so far! It is also a pretty slow-moving story, BUT a lot is going on throughout (read TW/CW!!!!) & is 100% worth the time!

Let's talk about Kat & Sam. Starting with Sam.
Sam had a shitty upbringing by an abusive drug-addicted father, his older brother ends up doing time protecting Sam from his father which ultimately leads the father to clean his shit up and try to be a better father. Fast forward, Tragedy ensues, and Sam downward spirals back into drugs. From there goes to The Lux (a club) with friends where he meets Katsumi. Things get shaky, he makes a horrible choice & ends up needing to do community service, Physical Therapy, and a few other things as a result.

Meet Katsumi or Kat for short. She's a people pleaser, intense & trying to find who she is after being in a shit "relationship" with a guy who didn't love her, didn't care about her, and was unavailable in every way... She also has to deal with her overbearing, in-your-business, I-know-what's-best-for-you & need-to-run-your-life mother that doesn't condone Kat's life choices because they don't align with what she wants. Sam & Kat end up splitting because of her indecision... And, oh, did I mention she's Sam's Physical Therapist?? 😆

Um, excuse me, ma'am!? The funhouse scene!!!! 🔥

Jada & Amelia, Kat's cousin Ty, and Ivy were all great characters! We all need friends like these to have our backs and call us on our bullshit when needed.

Oh, I loved this one! The author does a great job of making you feel every emotion and frustration the characters are feeling. And Sam goes through a lot. He was my fave character in this story (Kat a close second) due to his change and growth throughout. He went from an addict and weekday partier who went to work hungover and high, to someone who believed in love, relationships and could be truly happy without the vices.

The chemistry between Sam and Kat was amazing! I just loved those two together. Of course, as a romance novel, this story comes with misunderstandings between the two and hurt feelings, but you just have to wait for it to all play out how it should. They were both perfect for the other, encouraging one another to be better versions of themselves. Happier, healthier versions.

Characters from previous books made appearances, which reminded me that I still need to read Cam and Emma's book (The Nature of Time). I will need to do that asap! I liked the parts with them in this story.

A fantastic read! Enjoyed every minute.

I think Sam and Kat might be my favorite couple from the series. It’s really hard to choose between him and her and then his brother and his girlfriend if you haven’t read this three book series so far, do you need to go and run to your Kindle right now and download. Sam is the king of chaos, has a past of drug addiction and past trauma through his family. Kate is a people pleaser, trying to strive to please her mothers lifestyle choices, but also trying to find her place in life that makes her happy. They meet on a whim, one night at a club, unfortunately things don’t go their way and Kat abruptly leaves. Sam finds himself in chaos, of course long behold it brings Kate back into his life if you do anything in 2023 read this book it’s those type of books that you don’t want to give enough away in review. You just want the person to have to pick up and read the book themselves and fill all the emotions that this author put into her books. They are fantastic.

I think Sam and Kat might be my favorite couple out of this entire series. Sam is the king of chaos and struggles with addiction and other past traumas that stem from his childhood. Kat is a people pleaser who doesn't like to make anyone upset and just wants everyone to be happy. They meet at a bar and then fate takes hold of them. The ending made me so happy for the both of them and I am so glad for the happiness they both found with each other because they both deserved it. This story was amazing and so well written and I absolutely can't wait to read the next book Rayne writes.

Also thank you Rayne Wells for the E-ARC of this book! I absolutely loved it and cannot wait to see what you write next!

ARC Review: Rayne Wells is absolutely one of my new favorite authors. I’ve read all 3 books in this series and they’re all perfection! TNOC delivers on the spice, tenfold! The naughty scenes are T H E R E! Sam and Kat’s relationship is so dang cute, I literally smiled and giggled at them the entire book! This book however is a veryyyyyy sloowwwwww burn! I love a good slow burn but I do feel this book drug it out just a tadddddd too much. I would’ve loved to have seen them admit their feels a little earlier but I do get that was part of their struggle. It’s still a 10/10, 5 stars, 2 thumbs way up! Must read! Rayne can do no wrong in my eyes! I love her!

Book 3 definitely had me in my feelings. Chaos is correct. Hats off to Rayne Wells for making me actually like Sam. But I almost threw my kindle across the room at one point!! She was able to evoke a visceral reaction towards multiple characters. This hilariously snarky novel had me laughing one moment and frustrated the next. I became so invested in the layers of each characters. Keep them coming, chica!!

So Sam is destroying his life, but when he meets Kat everything changes for him. He felt like they had connected but then she ditched him because of her ex. Then fate brought them back together, but as luck would have it she was his physical therapist.🤣🤣🤣 But that didn't stop him from seeking what he wanted and what he wanted was her. I was laughing and crying through the whole book. Even got mad towards the end, but it was all a misunderstanding. You will love this book as much as I did.

Rayne NEVER MISSES

Sam and Kat’s story was as steamy as it was sweet! I adore this world that Rayne has created and I enjoy getting to see the perspectives of characters we’ve already come to love. She is so good at bringing in scenes from the prior books and spinning them to make them feel new and not at all repetitive. I’ve never read an ongoing series like this one and I love it so much. I can’t wait to see who Rayne writes about next!

I loved this book. It’s one of my favorites I’ve read so far this month. Sam and Kat’s story starts out in a fun way of meeting at a bar, she ghosts, and he’s bummed but life goes on. Sam gets in a bad car accident and guess who is his physical therapist? Kat of course! They start to become closer and get to know one another more, hanging out after PT and when it’s finished for good. I really enjoyed the friendship and the chemistry they had, it was almost like they could see through each others walls, and were the perfect fit for one another. If they could only be vulnerable about feelings, and meddling ex’s and parents. Will they make it? I also really enjoyed the friends group and how supportive they were in this book, and I’ll definitely be going back to read their books now.
