This book is the novel adaptation of the Mother 1 video game. It is written by Kumi Saori and includes an afterword by the author. It is part of the 新潮文庫 (Shinchoubunko), or Shinchou Book Collection.
Very entertaining read. This book is written from Ana's perspective, and gives excellent characterization to the characters. It follows the story of the game with some looseness. There are a few moments of extreme convenience and some awkward scenes that didn't feel they belonged, but that aside it was a short and enjoyable read!
i’m glad i was finally able to read this, as i’ve watched a few videos talking about this novel. this is almost giving fnaf novel with how it changes some of the game lore, but this was actually good LMAO. the perspective of ana was cool, and i love how the religious parts were realistic? like especially her battle with rock n roll, as it was common for christians to say it was evil. please do not let her have religious guilt, she is such a sweetheart. ninten (or ken) was a little asshole tho LMAOOO which was a bit of an interesting choice! i did like all the characters tho and how they interacted with each other.
this book was hilarious at times and i had to stop myself from laughing loud as hell cuz everyone else was sleeping. maria’s lore kinda being changed (or is it being expanded?) was ok, but it is canon she raised giegue and then something unexplained happened to her. giegue still has that connection with her and oh my god did their moment make me so fucking miserable. again, that fucking alien is me!!!!!
Novelization of the events of Mother (aka Earthbound Beginnings) from Ana's perspective; Overall an okay recap and expansion on parts of the game, but some of the characterization choices were…interesting; Reads a bit like "adults writing children" at times; Read the translation by Nyaasu
