At their wits end, two gay men hire private investigator Cassidy Jones to find out who is blackmailing them to leave their home on Cedar Ridge. Cassidy throws herself into the investigation, hoping against hope that it will help her forget the horror of her very first case and the woman who broke her heart.
3 stars Again decent but nothing groundbreaking. I decided I like the length. It's long enough that interesting stuff happens and short enough that the crime saving part doesn't get boring. And I liked Maggie significantly better than Erica
A good mystery, practically historical fiction, considering it was written in 1997, but that's not necessarily a bad thing. It's kind of interesting reading a case where the private eye has to use a pay phone and pagers and answering machines, not a cell phone or voicemail, and the internet and computers are not readily accessible at all. There's mention of the Yellow Pages and the AIDS epidemic and snail mail not email. I look forward to seeing how the rest of this series goes.
Erica Trinidad has stepped out of Cass James's life and Cass is moping. Then an odd case comes her way - someone is blackmailing home owners on Cedar Ridge, using information that, in some cases, is unlikely to have surfaced. Who is behind it, and why? The who is pretty much obvious from a few chapters in - though it does have a twist - and the why only really becomes apparent after Cass breaks a few laws. "2nd Impressions" clocked in at 220 pages on my tablet but it felt like a much shorter read - there's not much detail, characters are not developed any more than the absolute minimum, and the pacing is mostly gentle before, as in "First Impressions", it explodes into action at the end. I like the books, they're just the thing for a lazy Summer read.
This was a fun little cozy mystery about people being blackmailed and the militia. A lesbian PI was a refreshing change. Nursery rhyme challenge-fiddle
Another very enjoyable read. The descriptive style draws one right into the scenery and also makes one identify with the locals. Love the cats and their antics. The suspense is well crafted and kept me guessing until the end. The romantic thread weaving through the story also intrigues.
