Twenty-five year old Coraline Renfro is in mourning. She and her long time boyfriend, Blake Parrish, have broken up and Cora hasn’t been dealing with it well. She’s shut herself off from the world around her, and buried herself in her work. Tired of being alone, Cora accepts a date from a colleague, and slowly begins to move on. When Blake comes calling again, will Cora take him back or will she show him how it feels to have a door slammed in his face and his hopes and dreams of a future with her dashed?

Walking Away....What would you do if the man you've loved for the past 2 years up and left one day? No note, no call, nothing not another word from him.... I'll tell you what I would've done..................
Cora doesn't know how to move on from Blake. She loved this man for 2 years. A man she thought she would marry one day. A man she met while she was finishing up college. Eight months after Blake virtually disappeared Cora still is at status quo. Just living day to day looking herself in her work as an attorney and coming home a night doing nothing. It really was .....................................
It takes a fight with Cora's twin sister, Abi, to open her eyes to how she had been living for the past 8 months. After that fight I was totally..........................................................
Charlie is a partner at the firm where Cora works. When he approaches her and asks Cora to go to dinner she does what I least expected.....
She accepts!!! Thus begins the start of a relationship that I crossed my fingers would work out for Cora. But does it? What happens when Blake re-enters the picture? Is Cora ready to let go of her past and face a future with Charlie? or is she still in love with Blake?
That's something you can find out rather quickly is this short story from Adriane. Told from Cora's POV it is a quick sweet read. I enjoyed the story though by the end I wanted more but don't we all when we get into a book? This was a 4.5 star read for me~ A great book with an ending that left me.................................................
For being Adriane Boyd's debut book...I thought it was really good. It was a short quick novella but I still felt satisfied at the end. I liked the story and the meaning behind it. Cora and Charlie were very likable characters. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who is looking for a quick read about a love story that has no drama:)
Well done Adriane...very good story and I thought it was well written.
Such a great little novella from Adriane Boyd. I do prefer my reads be longer, but this one was just right. The characters were beautiful, and the writing superb!
What happens to Coraline had me doing this....
Then she meets Mr. Wonderful, Charlie Cross, and he definitely made me...
I don't want to give too much away, but I think anyone who reads this sweet little novella will be doing this by the end!
So, leave the past were it belongs, and move on with the life that was made especially for you!!
I'm reading some people's comments about this book and a few people are stating that its too short or lame but I completely disagree. Yes it's short but it's a Novella it's suppose to be a short story. I really enjoyed this book it was a great read.
I should start this review by saying that for the most part I don’t read novellas or short stories. Not because I dislike them but because I love getting into a story and being able to stay in the storyland as long as possible. When I came across Walking Away by Adriane Tait-Boyd I was instantly drawn to the cover. When I saw that it was a novella I figured I would give it a try and I was not disappointed.
Walking Away is the Story of Coraline is heartbroken when she comes home one day to find that her longtime boyfriend has left. Cora(line) tries to move on but is merely a shell of who she used to be. Despite being urged by her sister Abi to move on, she doesn’t feel she can until she opens her eyes to a co-worker named Charlie.
This is Adriane Tait-Boyd’s debut novella. It is really well written, an enjoyable read and a complete story that will leave you feeling satisfied when you are done. Despite the length, 57 pages, the characters are well developed, likable and memorable. I love, love, love one particular part where she accidentally punches a truck and breaks her hand. It was awesome.
The author writes beautifully with emotion and has you cheering for Coraline. She has experienced her share of pain and loss and you want so much for her “win”. The relationship between her and her sister Abi is realistic and aggravating. Everything that sisters seem to be in life.
I’m looking forward to Adriane Tait-Boyd’s next offering, "You Just Know" is due out this spring and I'm looking forward to reading it. It's a full length novel and the story sounds great. Check out Walking Away here. It's only $0.99 and worth every single penny!
I really enjoyed reading Walking Away. I’m a fan of sitting down and reading a short story/novella length romance every now and then. This one hit the spot for me.
I’m surprised to know this is Boyd’s debut release. It’s beautifully written and shows signs that she has a great career as an author ahead of her.
I liked Cora’s character and to see how she has so much going against her in life, but she keeps plodding along and making the best of it. She’s a very likable character. I can see myself enjoying sequel if it meant reading more from Cora’s point of view. The other characters are also great. Her twin sister, Abi, isn’t a key part to the story, but was still a great addition. The same goes for everyone else the reader encounters. I don’t want to name too many to avoid spoiling the fun.
Aside from the characters, the plot, the romance, and conflict involved all made me want to keep reading. It’s a believable story-line that I feel most readers will be able to relate to in one way or another. I’d also like to applaud the slow and steady build up of relationships. I’m not a fan of things happening immediately, even when the length of the story is short. When things happen at a real world pace, they are more believable.
In closing, I want to read more work from Adriane Boyd. I hope more comes out soon because I have a feeling I’ll be one to enjoy it.
I received an ARC of this novella for an honest review
3.5 stars for me - would probably be a 4 for me if is was a longer book and a little more character building (as I mention below).
Walking Away is a novella and is very short…..only 60 pages. I typically do not read stories this short unless they are a novella based off of another book. As you may be learning by now about me I love to get a great connection going with the characters. The story being so short left me wanting more development of the characters and more of their relationship developing. There was a lot that did happen in those 60 pages so you will certainly not be bored, I just wished I got a “bigger picture” of the story.
If you are looking for a quick short read with a good happily ever after, then this story is for you. My feeling of not having a “full” enough story, is just my way of reading and has no reflection on the author. Reading this book did give me the opportunity to be introduced to a new author and I would be very interested in reading a novel by her. Luckily for all of us, Adriane is currently writing her first full length novel titled ‘You Just Know’, which is targeted to release near the end of the year. So, keep an eye out for this new release.
Once I started this I couldn’t put it down, the book captured me from the very first paragraph and the end gave me the biggest set of goose bumps I have ever had from reading. It was so poignant and touching but you felt every part of it and it was beautifully done. The story is about Coraline Renfro. A girl who loses everything in only a few years except her sister and will do everything in her power to preserve that lasting relationship. When she finally gives in to having someone around just for her and then loses them she learns just how strong you have to be, in order to leave the past behind and walk away. Such a good story, such a balance of different personalities and themes. Bravo Adriane, we salute you!!
Walking Away is a sweet read about learning the importance of letting go, and, as the title says, walking away from a situation that's not right for you. That way you get to make way for something new, that just might be the best thing that's ever happened to you.
A great debut from Adriane Boyd and I look forward to reading more of her work when it's published.
This is how you tell a story. I loved everything about this book from start to finish. It had just the right amount of detail and romance. Really enjoyed it.
This will probably be the shortest review I ever write, but this was a short book to read and I do not want to give away anything.
"Walking Away" is about taking chances and walking away from the past, to make a better future. Coraline is going to learn how tough it is at first since her boyfriend, Blake, walked out of her life without even a note or a goodbye. She has been mourning over him for a while now, until she finally decides to move on and goes out with her co-worker, Charlie. Due to what her ex-boyfriend did to her, she'll be on guard when she is with Charlie. Until fate decides to make the past come back into her life...and now Coraline must decide to go back to her former life with Blake or change her path and take a chance with Charlie.
This was such a short read, I was able to finish it in less than an hour (without interruptions...of course...which is hard for a stay at home mom). It was fast-paced, which made me confused at first because it was so fast.....but it was an enjoyable read. I would have to re-read certain parts, to make sure I read correctly what happened. "Walking Away" teaches readers a lesson on learning how to walk away from the past, especially if the past hurt you. The real kicker to the story is when Coraline finds out the truth on why Blake left her. All I can say is, Coraline definitely found her way and she chose the right path.
This is Adriane Boy's first book and I definitely enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more books from her in the near future.
I received a complimentary copy of the book for the blog tour in exchange for an honest review.
I came across this book by chance, like I wasn’t even thinking about reading it and then I just read it. I know what short stories are like and everything but I am speechless. That’s not because I loved the book, its because I didn’t even like a single thing about it. For me, I need to understand the character and I know break ups are hard and you need to let go of things that aren’t suppose to happen. We all know this, that if something happens to you, let it be and move on. If your boyfriend leaves you, get over it because you will find someone new who will sweep you off your feet and you will think whether you ever were in love?(The Ex). Its the circle of life. I am tremendously sorry if I failed to feel the love for any of the characters. I didn’t love the lead- I didn’t like Cora. Some time, love happens within days or months, I get that but if its such a rush then whats the point of being in love. I really hate mushy stuff like nicknames. When I meet my boyfriend I am just like “Hey, how was your day?”. The nicknames just ruined it for me. The author should write like novels instead of the short stories , in which one could actually experience things and fall in love with the character. Where it doesn’t feel like “Oh, you just broke up? I am interested in you, let’s date”. originally posted on virtualtick.wordpress.com
When we first meet her Cora is still in mourning three months after having come home to find that the person she thought was the love of her life had left her without a word of explanation. This unsurprisingly left her a bit of an emotional mess, however after a fight with her sister she decides to go out with a co-worker in order to try to move on with her life. The problem I found was that this was the type of story that's much better suited to standard novel length (or occasionally as a supplementary story to an already established series), and therefore the character development felt weak and I found it impossible to engage with the characters in any meaningful way (essential in this type of story). Even the eventual re-appearance of her ex feels staged and unnatural and his explanation which Cora accepts is weak and unconvincing. The best novellas are ones who use this shorter length to advantage and can make an incredible impact in only a few thousand words, unfortunately this wasn't one of them. This was a novel with a lot of potential that unfortunately was failed by the constraints of the medium.
I loved this novella by Adriane Boyd. I have say here and read the reviews and now I am trying to write my review without being a total bitch. Yes, this book was short it is a novella it is suppose to be short. I was very impressed with this debut novella. I felt that she wrote her characters very well. I would actually love to read more about these characters. A full novel of their love story would be amazing. I cannot wait to read more of Adriane's books. I hope you will all give her a chance and not be swayed by nasty reviews. I agree that we are all entitled to our opinion, but I will never understand people who want to be just downright mean and hateful. This book is good. It may not be your cup of tea and that is fine, but don't be mean about it. There really isn't a need to call someone names of put them down. Okay I have rambled enough and gone off course now. Please try this book for 99 cents what have you got to loose?
Walking Away is a short novella I read really quick, probably in 1 hour and that was with interruptions from my kids.
Walking Away is the Story of Coraline, who is heartbroken when she comes home to find that her longtime boyfriend has left, packed all of his things with no warning, not even a letter (uuugghhhh douche....who does that?) She struggles to move on and eventually is able to do that and find love again with her co-worker Charlie.
This was a cute story about letting go and finding love again. I'm not really a fan of novella's because I always want more, but I was happy with the way this one ended and I am really looking forward to reading Adriane's full length novel when it is released.
I was drawn by content but then I started reading it and had to stop somewhere in the middle because I just couldn't take it anymore. I don't mind short stories, they can be well wiritten, but this one didn't have what it needed. It was rushed and shallow and I like to know my characters much better than that. It felt like reading something written by elementary school student. I am really sorry, I don't mean to scorn the writer, but I just have to express my honest opinion. I believe that this could have been a great novel if the author just took more time to develop the story and her characters. This way I just couldn't (though I really wanted to) find a way to connect with them... :/
It’s a simple story about moving forward and leaving the past behind. The plot is really not significant but because of its simplicity, I fell in love with the story. Giving yourself a chance for something/someone that’s special and that you deserve.
I was pleasantly surprised with this quick read. A heartbroken woman is pushed into moving on after the unexpected departure of the man she believed was the love of her life. I was completely enthralled with the story. I found it to be impressively just as compelling a novella as it might have been as a full length novel... something often attempted but rarely achieved. Great, beautifully written, romantic read!!
LOVED IT! Talk about short and sweet well this is it. It's only 39 pages but it truly is a full short story. I know your probably thinking yea right. And that's what I thought at first. ( no way is this a full story with only 39 pages.) But it totally is and it's only .99 cents. You've got love, romance, laughter and tears and a big HEA. I highly recommend this book to everyone.
Walking Away was a really enjoyable quick read. It was well written and I liked the story and characters A LOT! It is a great introduction to Adriane and her writing talent and I hope we get to read more from her in the future.
