Modern Australian Women: Paintings and Prints, 1925-1945

Rate this book
The works produced by Australia's women artists during the 40 years from the post-World War I period to after World War 11 reflected the challenges of the times. These women explored new ideas about what art could portray, bringing home new movements like Cubism from Europe. They extended painting and printmaking and challenged other artists and Australian audiences. The works here are by Margaret Preston, Grace Cossington Smith, Dorrit Black, Grace Crowley, Stella Bowen, and 11 others, artists that are well-known by the Australian and international public as well as less exposed artists. Included are artists' biographies and bibliography. (Art Gallery of South Australia)
