Change Is Good... You Go First

Rate this book
How does your team react to change? Do they dig in with their heels to resist it or do they welcome it with open arms?

As leaders, we know that change is a fact of life and we need to learn to manage it before it manages us. A tall order? Not when you have the wisdom of two business icons, Mac Anderson and Tom Feltenstein, to show the way. This easy-to-use book will help you and your team stop conducting business as usual.

Change is the key that unlocks the doors to growth and excitement in any organization. More importantly, without it...your competition will pass you by.

You don't have a choice about change, but you do have a choice about how you and your team react to it.

Don't wait another minute to inspire, motivate, and encourage your team to move forward and embrace change.

Lead the way. You go first.

TOM FELTENSTEIN, the co-author, gave me an autographed copy of this book at the 2012 Internation Franchise Association (IFA) Convention. It contains twenty-one, inspirational vignettes, and I intend to focus on just a few for some innovative changes I plan for my own annual meeting with my franchisees. This book came just at the right time for me.

"Change Is Good... You Go First" by Mac Anderson and Tom Feltenstein is a concise yet impactful read that delves into the heart of change management and leadership. This book encapsulates the essence of guiding organizational change, making it an ideal read for leaders and managers seeking to navigate this challenging terrain.

One of my favourite aspects of this book is how it combines impactful quotes with practical advice. For instance, the insight from Eric Harvey and Steve Venture, "Our brains are like closets. Over time they are filled with things we no longer use - things that don't fit. Every once in a while they need to be cleaned out," highlights the need for continual adaptation and discarding outdated practices and ideas.

Other quotes that resonated and stood out for their value and relevance to change management include:

"It's easier for companies to come up with new ideas than to let go of old ones." - Peter Drucker

"A good leader inspires people to have confidence in their leader. A great leader inspires people to have confidence in themselves." - Anonymous

"Progress involves risk. You can't steal second base and keep your foot on first." - Frederick Wilcox

"What gets measured gets improved." - Peter Drucker

"To be humble to superiors is duty, to equals courtesy, to inferiors nobleness." - Ben Franklin

In summary, "Change Is Good... You Go First" is a valuable resource for anyone in a leadership position facing the challenges of change. Its blend of succinctness and depth makes it a great guide in the world of change management.

This is a quick read full of a lot of inspirational quotes. While there are nuggets of wisdom, I found it to be largely without depth.

The way to master the competition, is by mastering the change. Instead of making change a movement, instead create the change by prioritizing it as a culture. The book offers a very interesting proposal on how as business leader to be the sole change in the organization.
