The book gives a gripping, first-hand account of the author’s nine-week long stay in Kargil (during the encounter) and his experiences. He succinctly details the operation with special emphasis on the human side of the conflict. The graphic depiction of the war and candid interviews with the top brass makes for a true-to-life experience for the reader.
You won't find a better book written about the Kargil "Operations" Written by a fauji brat,Gaurav Sir had been on the front lines with the troops. He experienced it all. This is one book that has come straight from the heart.
This is how a war reporting should be done. Unlike Barkha Dutt's sensational reportings, Gaurav is Purely objective, doesn't put national interests at risk, admitted his failures and mistakes at times, and most important was the follow up post War. As a reader it had details (not unnecessary), pictures and high and lows of a war story with human touch. Must read for every citizen to understand that war is not a game but a tough scenario avoidable at best. More power to you Gaurav.
My first encounter with war frontline journalism . The reading was very informative and intriguing , even though it was difficult going through ; the pathos , brutality and sheer mindless of war kept poking , somewhere deep down inside . The details, the odds facing the soldiers , the true diplomatic underpinnings behind the conflict -these were the findings in the book which the mass media had failed to bring to the masses during the course of the war .
A wonderful book to read. The book covers all the aspects of 1999 war. It touches the operations with the human aspects of the war. From soldiers' love letters to the rigorous battles on the top. The details of the operation and interviews of various officers including the top brass makes it even more interesting.
Well I was trying to find a real good book on this operation which took place in 1999. And until 2005 this was the best book available(unaware of new releases) Many things cited accurately and patriotically. Good read and must read for patriots!
