I was human when the Gates fell and the war started. But ever since, I don't know what I am anymore.
What I do know is that I possess a precious bargaining chip—my blood. And everyone wants a drop of it: vampires, werewolves, and faes.
The only one who seems to see me as more than just a blood bag is the worst of them all: a vampire with haunting eyes, incapable of any emotions other than blinding rage. My sudden obsession with this mysterious loner is fearsome, but our connection is unexplainable—a recipe for disaster on my secret quest.
Throw in a werewolf who hates my guts and his younger brother with puppy-like behavior, and my mission to survive in the New World becomes increasingly messy.
He fears the memories his blood might show me.
I fear them too.

This is the first book of the duet and ends on a cliffhanger. It’s a slow burn with a lot of tension. The FMC has a few males adoring her, but she ends up with one. Strong language and adult situations. 18+. The second book follows shortly after.
Note from the author: Darriel is a complicated vampire, but give him a chance.
Ariana Cane is the queen of sizzling slow-burn romances that blend heart-pounding chemistry. A die-hard Disney fan, she sprinkles a touch of magic into her stories, keeping readers hooked as her characters navigate their way to happily-ever-after. 💖
Forget insta-love—Ariana’s all about crafting damaged alpha heroes with layers of depth and complications that unravel like a perfectly plotted fairy tale. When she’s not writing, you’ll find her dreaming up new ways to torture her characters (and readers!) with a cup of decaf coffee or striding the Disney parks because it’s her happy place.
Writing about herself in the third person? Let’s just say it’s as tricky as convincing her characters to kiss and make up before the final chapter. 📚
I don't even know where to start. Tale Of The Deceived is the author's first PNR book, and she literally knocked it out of the park.
For one, it’s now my favorite book from the author. It’s also captivating, and I pulled an all-nighter to finish reading it. It’s that good. At first, I thought maybe the book reminded me of True Blood. But I was wrong, dead wrong. Thank goodness
In the new world, humans are at the bottom of the food chain. Our Sadie, a nomad, is looking for answers. Unknown to her, she stands out in the vampire world and is chosen. All hell breaks lose shortly after. Make sure to pay close attention. It’s a whirlwind.
Sadie is a corky, fiercely independent woman. I loved her from start to finish and her character growth. Darriel, lord, have mercy. Because sweet baby Jesus he is complex and one smoking hot Vampire. Sadie is his light to his darkness. That is all I will say.
The author writes complex characters, and I, for one am great full. I think more alliances will follow, and betrayal will hurt those they least expect.
Now to try and wait patiently for the next book in the series. I highly recommend this book. I will say it's a long slow burn, and only book one. It's well worth the read and then some.
wanna know what happens when i let my cat pick up my next read? this happens.
ugggggghhhhhhhhhhh i'm so mad at this book for starting so well, for deceiving me into believing i was going to love it to pieces, for gaslighing my mind into imagining a mixture between henry cavilla and baldur's gate's astarion as darriel, only for the entire book to fall apart and consequently take an unfortunate 180 turn in a shittier direction that left me unsatisfied, frustrated and confused af. damn you, ariana cane. i've already bought book 2. you better fix this mess and give me the problematic vampire boyfriend love i was promised.
“My dream was shattered, and I’m still unsure of whether I’m thankful or not. But I’m a warrior, and my new dream is to make it out of here alive. What it’ll mean for us after, I’m not sure. What my new dream will be, I don’t know.
It’s time for me to grow the fuck up.”
Imagine every vampire, werewolf, fae story you've ever read - handsome mysterious vampires that make you weak at the knees - fae princes with beauty so stunning it blinds you - werewolves as vicious as they come but with such a tender touch - throw in a female heroine that with her hidden powers will tie them altogether and you've got the right ingredients to define Tale of the Deceived.
And surprisingly, despite the glaringly obvious clichés, I actually enjoyed reading this. I'm on a tbr cleanser and this was one of the earliest on the list, and when I finally read it, I really got swept away into the writing - it's your typical dystopian story, but there's something so innately fresh and dare I say it, charming about the characters and the way the story pans out that I found myself immersed in the plot. If I don't find myself skimming passages or grimacing at chunky writing, then I know I'm in good hands.
Fast-paced and action-packed right from the start, you're instantly swept away with Sadie as she's chosen as one of the few to provide blood to the vampires and werewolves - two species who protect and guard the gates from the warring fae that suddenly appeared on Earth. Little does she know, that her blood is so special and unique, it may be the very thing that might tip the battle in their favor.
“Sometimes, hope is a beautiful miracle. Sometimes, it’s a cruel bitch.”
Sadie was one of the funniest and dynamic FMC I've read in awhile - honestly, she was such a breath of fresh air! From her humorous way of cursing, from her determination not to show that she's prey to either species, from her unique ways of getting out of trouble, from her courageous show against the lashes she had to receive, from her ridiculous obsession with age and dressing decently, from her whole persona that just radiates 'don't mess with me, if you know what's good for you', her character development shined as the story progressed. ✨✨ She's very confident in her decisions - so independent and sure in nature and yet, she's still trying to find a place where she can belong.
She would always earn a chuckle from me here and there, because as simple as the story is, as much of it's a culmination of every fantasy story ever written, her side-eye rolling to everything that's happening, from her perception that everything doesn't make sense, yet she just wants to find a peaceful and right way out of it - her heart really is in a good place, she just seems to end up in precarious waters unbeknownst to her! 😄 When her rational mind screamed at her that Darriel and Andriel fighting with each other was absolutely ridiculous, she threw herself into the fray to force them apart.
I also adored her interactions with all the respective side characters - it was lovely how her personality and demeanor would change with each of them, because she had different feelings and experiences with all of them. Garrett, the fierce hairy werewolf who irked and terrified her to no end - Rick, his adorable younger brother who forges such an intense brotherly bond with her that he would protect her with his life, one she genuinely wanted to be friends with. Rick really was such a sweetheart - I do hope we'll see more of him soon! 💕💕 And Andriel, her forgotten lost love, who when she discovers is responsible for every horrible thing that's befallen the New World and the humans, she has to face the difficult decision of which side she truly belongs to.
“He deepens the kiss, if that’s even possible. One breath more, and he will devour my body. Or even worse—he will devour my soul. What’s even worse is that I’ll gladly let him.
God, the man knows how to kiss.”
And yes, how could I forget Darriel - the mysterious, scarred, sexy vampire who makes Sadie question her own sanity, who makes her defy her own sense of reasoning, who she willingly offers her blood to, because it just feels so good. 🩷🩷 I loved their moments together - their banter was spot-on, their chemistry so intensely heated, so fiercely possessive of her. We definitely have traces of your typical vampire-esque personality, but I loves that Ariana Cane is keeping it a mystery at how old he really is and how long he's been a vampire - his relentless teasing of her at how she's so fixated on knowing this is so hilarious - and it definitely adds to his enigma and all the secrets he's keeping from her!
Sadly, there weren't that many steamy moments that took place, but the scenes where they would take the blood from each other, how he would murmur 'don't fight how your body's feeling or it'll hurt more' ❤️🔥❤️🔥 It was palpable how much want was radiating from both of them for each other, but circumstances of even forced proximity wouldn't allow them to act upon it. 😔 I loved how Sadie was so instantly drawn to him, captivated by him, and every time he would feign interest in her, she would glower inwardly with indignation. I did enjoy the few chapters where we were given the story from his POV, but there are still so many unanswered questions that I can't wait to see what lies in store for both of them - especially, as it ended on a surprisingly unexpected cliffhanger!
You might feel that there are definitely strong Twilight vibes to the plot -I certainly did - but if you read the dedication - it certainly explains why. Oh, and I especially appreciated the illustrations that were included, which helped provide an image into what the characters intended to look like! So all in all, it wasn't a complete waste of time - I'm quite picky in what I read, so the fact that I chose to read this, must mean something. Here's hoping the next one will be just as an entertaining ride as this one unexpectedly proved to be. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Ariana Cane may be new to writing paranormal romance, but she 𝗦𝗟𝗔𝗬𝗘𝗗 it, this book is 𝗣𝗛𝗘𝗡𝗢𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗔𝗟!
Sadie was sixteen when supernaturals changed the world she once knew. Almost ten years later, and the Vampires, Werewolves and Fae are still at war. Sadie may not know much about supernaturals, but she knows they need blood to survive and she doesn’t want to become their blood bag. Sadie and Darriel have an unexplainable connection as she is thrown into the supernatural world. Darriel is a brooding vampire with secrets, and these secrets may just be the key to ending the war. Sadie begins questioning the little she thought she knew of the supernaturals. She is being pulled in multiple directions and needs to make the right decision.
This book was 𝗔𝗠𝗔𝗭𝗜𝗡𝗚 and will leave you with a serious book hangover. We are left with questions that will have you begging for the next book! Highly recommend!
So I can’t believe this is Ariana Cane first PNR. The way it’s written makes it’s really hard to believe. I got pull into the story from the moment sh*t went bananas and well sh*t goes bananas really fast! Even when I knew nothing and I felt lost I was still hooked to the story, with the need to know more! The lack of information is very well played into the storytelling. I was confused because the main character was confused and I think that’s beautiful (ihihih).
I haven’t read a dystopian book in bit and this book just brought me right back to enjoying the genre. It approaches the topic without being overwhelming.
It’s like the start of the Hunger Games meets Secret Keepers but with vampires and werewolfs and something else. Amazing!
My word to describe Darriel (MMC) is “Audacity” because the audacity on this man is out of this world! He can be really infuriating! But this only makes me MORE curious for what part 2 will bring to this story! And even if there isn’t a lot of smut content on this one there is enough to keep you interested in that part. But I was so focus on the rest so it makes sense that part didn’t develop as much YET!
Something I really loved but that don’t see much in other stories is a possible female-male friendship (the character Rick got me really interested and curious to see how that develops).
This book was my first ARC, the author was so kind as to trust me with reading it and giving it my honest review and I am super grateful for the opportunity. I hope I did it right. This for me was a moment to realize that trying new things a putting yourself out there can pay off and bring you amazing experience! And I get to talk with really cool people and to read some amazing books!
I tried but the plot felt rushed, I mean, one thing was happening, a second later another thing was happening, it didn't let me enjoy the story. Also, Sadie wasn't my cup of tea.
When I first heard about this book, I was so unsure because supernatural is not my typical read.
I was so wrong. This book was so good! I felt like I was Sadie learning everything at the same time she was and I felt every single feeling Sadie felt. Between the war with the Vampires, werewolves and Faes and the love triangle I was hooked!
Also let’s not forget Rick who I feel like I trust with my life haha. I read this book so fast and I have just as many questions as Sadie! I need them all answered now. When is book 2 coming?! I Need it!
To say this book had me completely captivated is an understatement! I read the entire book in one day because I couldn’t put it down!
Everything about this story was written perfectly! From the characters to the amazingly new and creative world I was hooked! The tension between Darriel and Sadie is soo intense and I’m praying that something more becomes of that! Because I’m definitely team Darriel over Andriel!
This is an absolute must read for anyone who loves the forbidden love and enemies to lovers tropes! This book has everything! From werewolves and vampires to Fae and magic!
First time writing in the genre!? I have a hard time believing that after that I’ve read! Ariana Cane does an amazing job of immersing readers into the world that she’s created.
I had a beautiful experience learning of the New World along with protagonist Sadie, feeling like I was having the experiences myself almost. Ariana does an amazing job of explaining important information and leaving out very key details at the same time, because no book is as good as this one without the author beating around the bush until the reader is ready to rip their hair out by the end.
The book being left on a cliffhanger, one as heart wrenching as this one, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to cry and break something in a rage. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next book, but what I do know is that I’m going to read the whole thing in one sitting no matter how long it takes me. I am now a forever fan of Ariana Cane and I hope that this book makes even more people fans of hers as well.
I finished the book in one sitting. I loved the world building, characters are soo complicated. Book 1 feels like a warm up to what comes next!! Soo many things happens in a 25 chapters but it does ends on a Cliffhanger which I don't know what to make of it! I love how the author written, like post fallen world, how supernaturals feels around humans, what they only need from them. The plot was interesting and intriguing!! Can't wait to see what's all the secrets with Darriel.
Holy crap on a stick where do I even start with this book. The world building was so fluid I didn’t feel like it was a long boring chapter of information. No Ariana made it fast paced and action packed.
I literally felt like I was learning the world at the same time and speed Sadie was… which frankly was amazing and pissed me off more than I’d like to admit. I desperately wanted to know every little detail of what was going on. Which is why I flew through this book. Constantly wanting to devour any and all information Ariana so graciously gave me.
I haven’t quite figured out the weird love triangle with Sadie in the middle of Darriel and Andriel. But the whip lash laced with enough sexual tention to melt a nun had my head spinning.
There are so many unanswered questions and so much of the story I can’t wait to read, I am officially saying Screw Archie I want part 2 next.
The storyline was rushed. None of the characters had a real personality. She was drawn to a man who threw her around, was cruel to her and kept her as a prisoner. Sounds messed up. I hated that we knew she was different from the start but no one told her anything or she didn’t care enough to push the subject. I don’t like when books do this, if you let us know there is going to be a surprise it just weakens the surprise. Especially when u dangle the carrot. By the end, I did not care what the big reveal was, i was bored.
I don’t normally read PNR but it was recommended by someone I trust and went for it. I would have read this faster than I actually did if I didn’t have to work. The story is a roller coaster. It is action packed from beginning to end. The reader is given so much info throughout the book but it’s never too much. This is def a slow burn. The story is so good though that it didn’t matter (in my opinion). I really don’t want to give anything away. Secret after secret is brought to light and poor Sadie is just along for the ride. She has a strange pull to Darriel and I can’t wait to keep exploring that because there’s def something there. Can’t wait for part 2
Tale of the Deceived: Paranormal, Dystopian Urban Fantasy Romance series (The World of the Fallen Gates book 1) by Ariana Cane. This is the first book of a duet and ends with a cliffhanger.
Sadie is human and just trying to survive and get answers, but in her search she runs into vampires, werewolves, and faes. Sadie ends up with more questions than answers.
This story had me addicted. I read this book in two days and would have been shorter if I didn’t have to work. This first part of duet is low romance/very slow burn. but is an amazing paranormal dystopian story with lots of action. I also have been advised there is more romance in the second part of the duet. Despite the low romance there is still good chemistry between Sadie and Darriel. Ariana Cane does a great job building the world and complex characters. I can’t wait for part two to get answers and see how everything comes together.
Gosh what a book! It was a crazy start to this book!! Definitely left you wanting more! Darriel is something else he is definitely a dream boat! I can't wait for the next book!
Holly crap. I don’t think I took a breath the whole time I’d been reading it. Do I want to punch a wall? Yes, I do. Do I want to punch Andriel? Yes, I do. What else I want? The second book. Like yesterday. I don’t know how I’m going to survive? Did I want more spice? I didn’t even noticed they haven’t had sex because there was so much other shit going on. Like legit the book was so effing good. P.s. I can’t wait to see when they finally do the thing. I bet the fires will happen, and buildings will burn.
When Ariana announced she was venturing into the PNR world of writing I was completely ecstatic about it! She debuted with a contemporary romance series and is now expanding to another genre and I am here for the ride...and what a ride it is!
The world that Sadie once knew is no more. Supernatural beings now walk the earth openly. She has spent the last three years keeping her head down, trying to go unnoticed while searching for the man she once loved. There is a unique characteristic to Sadie that lands her in the path of Darriel, a dangerous vampire. With danger right on their heels she soon finds out the blood that flows through her veins is of great use to the supernaturals.
Darriel has many secrets he does not want revealed. He has in his care the one thing that can protect vampires and werewolves from the fae...Sadie's blood. What he didn't expect is the way he is drawn to her and try as he might he cannot block her from seeing his memories when he gives her his blood. When she finds herself in a bad situation he is there to take her and hide her. Can Darriel and his wolf allies talk Sadie into voluntarily helping them with their plan?
In true Ariana fashion we get a FMC that can hold her own with Darriel. She has the trademark snarky tendencies we always get and the inner monologue had me giggling a time or two. The banter between her and Darriel is amazing and the tension that builds throughout the entire book sets them up for what will inevitability be an epic moment in the next book and I cannot wait. There are also a handful of side characters that you will love (Rick) and those you won't (Garrett and Andriel). Ariana does have a way of making a character seem one way but redeems themselves later on in the story and that is my hope for Garrett!
Ms. Cane has nailed her PNR writing with this first of hopefully many in said genre. I will say anyone who is a fan of Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse series (True Blood) will definitely want to read this. Fair warning (as the author has given it)…this is an extreme slow burn and book one of a duet!
Ariana Cane writes heart-touching stories and I love her writing a lot. This is her debut novel for Paranormal romance and I must say it’s a wow story. The author writes all the complex characters and they come out with flying colours. They are so easy to understand but are very high on emotional levels that I love the most.
The PLOT is phenomenal and the progress of the story is captivating. I got sucked in and it left me wanting more. We see Fae, vampires, werewolves, and humans and all are fighting for survival in their own respective terms. It's a hell of a situation going on and to top it up with a strong female protagonist then it becomes a DESERT that nobody has tasted ever.
Sadie is a fiercely strong female and the way she takes her surroundings inspires you. She has one aim in the New World and she’s solely concentrated on that but Fate had other things coming for her. The twists the story takes are surprising. The story is full of actions and exploring new steps in the plot. I found Rick very sweet and would love to know more about him.
Darriel is one handsome vampire who is a bit of a villain but I’ll say he’s a morally grey character and there is a lot about him that we don’t know yet. I look forward to the next book in this duet to find out what’s triggering Darriel’s actions. Even the author's note says that he’s misunderstood, have some patience with him. He’s the stars in the night.
The chemistry is off the charts, Ariana rocked the whole slow-burn concept. The tension between the characters is clearly visible and gives bonus points in every interaction. The entire image is mesmerizing and as the story goes ahead it gets better and better. Even the Cliffhanger is perfect for me. Now it’s all about waiting for the next.
Wow! For this being Ariana's first PNR book she really knocked it out of the park. I have read PNR books before and this was by far the best. Sadie was so alone and struggling in this new world after the Gates collapsed. She searched for answers and to find her family. She ends up in the enemy's hands and is thrown into the world of supernatural beings. Vampires, Werewolves and Fae's are at war and she is the center. She needs to figure out who she can trust in a world where you learn to trust no one, not even humans. I read this book in one day. I couldn't read it fast enough. The twists and turns were crazy. So many secrets you just can't wait to find the answers to. And the most unlikely bonds are formed with Sadie. The adventures and fights had me turning the pages so fast just to see what was going to happen next. I can't wait for the next book!!
i have lots of thoughts about this book. first off, i loveed the first 25/30% percent of this. the mc was serving up lots of fierce survivor energy and her introduction was super badass. she made practical decisions under stress and seemed to be relatively mature. i was eating it up. then somewhere around 50% ish her character seemed like it began to rapidly devolve. suddenly she seemed markedly less logical and more immature than the character that we were first introduced to. i was still invested in the story so it didn't take away from my reading experience too much, but still sucked since i loved who her character was initially.
the plot of this was awesome. there definitely were some cliches (ex. the overly brooding vampire love interest) but it was written well enough that it was still interesting. the whole concept of-blood being the worlds currency- felt really original and i loved it. having vampires, werewolves, and fae all dependent on blood was a cool development that i haven't seen many times before. i really enjoyed the characterization of the fae, seeing their species portrayed so brutally was fun considering fae are typically the "good guys" of fantasy.
this had some drawbacks but also had some great upsides. the ending was very abrupt so i'll likely be reading book two to see where this story goes.
Tale of the Deceived, the first book in the World of the Fallen gates series by Ariana Cane is an utterly captivating dystopian, urban fantasy story set in a spellbinding new paranormal world and I am absolutely hooked and need more!!!
This is a story of our fabulous heroine Sadie, who is a lone survivor in a changed world after a mysterious and magical occurrence resulted in the supernatural making an appearance and an unknown entity recking havoc on the world and essentially destroying the humans world as they knew it.
Sadie has always been “different” and after losing what remained of her family learned to try and stay under the radar of the supernatural forces (vampires and wolves) until one fateful day everything changes. Now she’s on the run once again, searching for answers and soon finds herself fighting in the side she once saw as her enemies while trying to survive and realizes the answers she’s looking for may be under her skin all along. And in a world that essentially runs on blood, the question is will is it a good thing…or the end of everything?
Seriously—I could not get enough of this story, this new futuristic world and these characteristic characters that had me second guessing every one that came on the page! Holy hotness, the slow burn chemistry and all the angst filled tension building up between everyone is off the charts! And the endless intrigue and mystery of who’s on who’s side, who’s good and who’s bad is crazily addicting making this a book you’ll just want to devour nonstop! Cane truly outdid herself with this fabulous new fantasy world and I can’t wait for book 2!!!
So overall, if you’re a fan of Urban Fantasy slow burn intriguing stories featuring sexy alpha vampires, fae and shifters that is set in a fabulous new paranormal dystopian world then this is the one for you! Just be warned if you can’t handle unanswered burning questions and a suspenseful cliffhanger of an ending—the tread carefully!
Ariana Cane has tackled a new genre outside of romance and I am here for it! In this paranormal enemies to lovers romance, Sadie is struggling to survive in this apocalyptical world where all these supernatural beings are fighting. For what exactly? Control. Power. And most importantly, blood. It's essential to every supernatural being needs to survive and win a war.
At every turn, Sadie is being pulled in different directions but gains the knowledge she needs to help put an end to this battle and save the human race.
The only thing keeping her on edge is a vampire named Darriel who's hell-bent on keeping his secrets from her. Secrets that might just be the key to stopping this war.
I won’t spoil the story. Just know I’m on team Darriel because Dar’s have to stick together. And who doesn’t love a vampire? Sure, he’s an asshat, but oh the sexual tension between these two.
Add Mr. werewolf bastard and werewolf bestie into the mix and it makes the story all the more better.
We’re not here for that asshole Fae. Sorry, not sorry. He can keep his love to himself.
It's a great story. Highly recommended. Just keep in mind, this story is a duet and ends with a cliffhanger.
Ok wow, now that I have had a moment to think past that ledge the author decided to kick us off of at the end of that book. I mean, she just shoved us off laughing at the torment she gave us until the next book comes out.
Moving on, this is such a great dystopian fantasy book. This new world after the fall has human kind on the decline as they are a good source for the Vampires & Werewolves, their saviors from the Fae. Sadie has been trying to find her family for years, moving from place to place to search for them. A case of wrong place at the wrong time brings her into the clutches of the Vampires. This leads us down a path of discovery of so many things.
Our main man, Darrel, is definitely book boyfriend material right there. A Vampire who is so very alpha in his nature. I cannot wait to get so much more from him.
I loved the characters and the story in this book, and I very much need answers. Please. All the answers!
WOW! What a fantastic start to this amazing new fantasy series. I was instantly captivated and completely riveted to my seat right from the very first page and could not put it down. The imagery and world building was creative, imaginative and outstanding. I was instantly transported to a dark and dreary dystopian world where supernatural’s and humans live along side each other but not peacefully. The author weaves a story filled with darkness, suspense, mystery, violence, bloodlust, anger and some hidden secrets that no one knows about. The story had my adrenaline pumping and my heart racing throughout. It was one hell of a rollercoaster ride to be taken on.
Sadie, man I love this girl. She is spunky, bratty, witty, strong, and totally naïve. But man does she ever make me giggle with her crazy inner dialogue and the way that she snaps back at anyone that gets in her way. There are so many secrets being kept from her and when she starts stumbling upon some of them, her life gets flipped upside down. I am not sure Sadie is ready for her world to completely change.
Darriel, the dark, grumpy, mysterious and very dangerous vampire. This guy knows just how to keep secrets close to his chest, even from the mysterious Sadie. His connection with Sadie is intense and you could feel it building into something explosive. I can’t wait for it! And I can’t wait to learn more about Darriel as the story progresses.
This was truly a fantastic and well written PNR story with such amazing characters (some that you instantly love, some that are slightly unhinged and some you will loath), and with a very creative storyline that was filled with emotions, angst, drama, action and twists and turns that keep your head spinning.
Let me tell you, those last few chapters had my freaking heart in a vice and my stomach in knots. And with the way things ended I am not sure how I am going to be able to wait until the next book comes out.
This is Ariana Cane's first step into the land of the paranormal and the deep dark and mysterious, 'World of the Fallen Gates' has appeared. Book 1, The Tale of the Deceived, is the first part of a duology, but you will be excited to learn part 2 of the duology will be out very soon too. I want more now! 😂
From the beginning I was totally captivated, caught in the abyss between good versus evil… but how do you know the difference? Who is good? Where lies the dark, mysterious, evil… or what is it? Is it really?
Clear your schedule, although may be a little too long for only one sitting! Check your triggers because it is darker than Ariana Cane's previous novels.
I don't know where to start with characters… they all feel so real and you find yourself wanting to learn more about all of them, now! I couldn't read fast enough to discover all I wanted to learn.
Sadie… she is strong, kind, caring, and a truly amazing girl. To say more I will spoil the story. And Darriel… what can one say… read the story… if you love dark fantasy and paranormal you will adore this book as I have!
Tale of the Deceived is Ariana's newest endeavor into the paranormal world. She pulls it off. Although, I did not doubt her as I love her Little Hope series. A small-town romance series. So, readers will be in for a big surprise with this new change. Fans of paranormal/fantasy books will want to check out this book.
There are hints of romance but don't worry as it will build in the next book. I like that the romance between Sadie and Darriel was not too prominent. This is because they started out as enemies and if they had shared an instant love, I actually would not have believed nor felt it. Sadie is a wild card. There is still mystery surrounding her and I can't wait to learn more about how she plays into the whole world.
Another person that I hope is featured more is Garrett. I think there is more to him as well and there appears to be history between him and Darriel. Ariana takes me on a magical journey that I am all in with engaging characters built in a fantastic world with Tale of the Deceived!
This is my first book to read for Ariana Cane, and it’s a little different genre than I usually read. But Ariana, thank you for introducing me to Darriel.
The old world has fallen and the New world is humans at the bottom, and vampires, werewolves, and faes at the top. Sadie a human that always felt like something was different about her but not quite sure. She ends up being chosen in the “call” by vampires (think hunger games). She is given to Darriel a not so nice vampire but Hot! He knows what she is, and he knows how valuable she is. There is War in the supernatural world between vampires/werewolves against the fae and magic.
The love twist between past love Andriel and possible love Darriel keeps you thinking… whose side will you be on? I’m rooting for Darriel, I love the love/hate relationship between him and Sadie.
