A religious-based mystery-thriller, this book is an intriguing look into what can go wrong when religious revelation directs the actions of man with impunity. An investigative reporter has traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah, to document and report on the reactions of the Latter-Day Saints (LDS) as one of their own endures the rigorous Congressional hearings for Supreme Court Appointees. He unwittingly uncovers an illicit scandal involving the judge undergoing questioning and a high ranking church official, this official's involvement in an apparent case of artifact fraud, and the possible murder (or is it suicide) of the official's brother.

Lehmann has done a spectacular job of combining a complicated mystery with the secretive nature of the LDS church, careful to be even handed in presenting the facts necessary to propel the plot forward. The church and it's members are portrayed as being along a continuum, from non-believers to zealots, and everything inbetween. The characters are genuine and well developed, and seem to get as caught up in the complexity of the story as the reader.

Held my attention well enough to finish it - always a good sign for a lazy reder like me.

Interesting plot premise - a female Mormon judge nominated to the US Supreme Court, with intrigue ensuing. Has a Da Vinci code feel for it with lots of cinematic action. The author reveals himself as deeply skeptical of LDS truth claims. In spite of flaws stlil an interesting read.
