Refreshingly describes Lutheranism as a way of seeing, hearing, teaching, and following. For individual reading, adult classes, new member instruction.
Thought-provoking and challenging to the modern American way of thinking.
Daniel Erlander attempts to answer the question, "What is Lutheran Christianity?" in this booklet. In a clear, succinct manner, Erlander explains that Lutheranism is a way of seeing, a way of hearing, and way of teaching, and a way of following. With the caveat that Lutherans have no monopoly on certain ways of being Christian, Erlander focuses on abstract, difficult concepts, such as liberation through the death of Jesus on the cross, the Living Word, and the call to radical obedience to the will of God.
I read this when I was in Junior High for my confirmation. I just dug it back out and re-read it. It provides a very easy-to-understand explanation of why Lutherans do what they do. It was enlightening.
