As the author was studying Lamentations chapter 3, the word "inheritance" stood out to her.
"It’s used in many verses and means not only “reward” but also “sustainer, redeemer, rescuer” . . . basically everything. Or “enough.” We hope in God because He is enough. Enough wisdom. Enough strength. Enough forgiveness. Enough grace. Enough.... Escape to Morning is about walking toward that hope one day at a time in faith, expecting God’s mercies anew each morning and trusting Him to be enough for that day."
In this second book of Team Hope collection, both of our main characters are Christians. Because of the nature of Will's position and mission for Homeland Security, he couldn’t be completely forthcoming. His cover was as a reporter, something Dani couldn’t stand.
Dani, on the other hand was an open book. Clearly a Christian and working for a search and rescue company, she was looking for a girl who was seen fleeing from what appeared to be abductors. No way did she want a reporter getting her information only to spill it in some headline.
However as he followed her and she saw his talents at tracking and survival, they got to know and trust each other. What he knew, and she didn’t, was that the girl they were both tracking was an informant against a terrorist cell, and their lives were in constant danger.
Many times they called upon their God to sustain them, to be their guide and to be enough.
"The Christian life is a journey. One day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time. Some days are successful... others, well, they’re days of slogging through until bedtime. Through each, however, we can expect God to be our portion, our sustainer. And finally, our reward."
Another very good story within this series, albeit, not quite as good as the first. I had to roll my eyes as they were running for their lives, or chasing after a terrorist, what was going through their minds was that look, or kiss, or the growing feelings. Nope — I don’t think so. When your adrenaline is pumping and the stress of danger is all encompassing, your mind doesn’t stray to sweet feelings for someone or what a future would be like with them. It was unrealistic and made me wish the author had picked a less harrowing moment for such ponderings.
(And I wish they'd change the cover. It simply doesn’t reflect the suspense all the way through this book. This looks more like a gentle Sunday afternoon drive through the countryside. 🤔)
But all in all, it was a very good book.
