Book two in the Team Hope series by Susan May Warren, the name to watch in romantic suspense. In Escape to Morning, Homeland Security Agent Will Masterson crosses paths with Search and Rescue worker Dannette Lundeen. Will is working undercover to find and neutralize a terrorist organization threatening U.S. security. Dannette is searching for a missing girl, who turns out to be the key to the terrorists. As Will and Dannette put their lives on the line, they find their hearts drawn to one another. Only as they trust God and each other can they find a way to escape to morning.
I can't help be amazed at the gifts God has delighted me with - a wonderful husband, four amazing children, and the opportunity to write for Him.
I've been writing as long as I can remember - I won my first book writing contest in first grade! Over the years, writing has become, for me, a way to praise God and see Him at work in my life.
Although I have a degree in Mass Communications from the University of MN, my real writing experience started when I penned the The Warren Report - a bi-monthly newsletter that detailed our ministry highlights.
Living in Russia meant I never lacked for great material - and those experiences naturally spilled out first into devotionals and magazine articles and finally into my first published story, "Measure of a Man," in the Tyndale/HeartQuest, Chance Encounters of the Heart anthology.
Susan and husbandI grew up in Wayzata, a suburb of Minneapolis, and became an avid camper from an early age. My favorite fir-lined spot is the north shore of Minnesota - it's where I met my husband, honeymooned and dreamed of living. The north woods easily became the foundation for my first series, The Deep Haven series.based on a little tourist town along the shores of Lake Superior. I have to admit - I'm terribly jealous of Mona, the heroine of my first full-length book, Happily Ever After, a Christy Award Finalist published in 2004 with Tyndale/Heartquest.
Our family moved home from the mission field in June 2004 -- and now we live in the beautiful town I'd always dreamed of! God has amazed me anew with His provision, and blessings -- and allowed me a season when I can write full time for Him.
I 'm delighted you've stopped in to visit. My hope is that you'll be blessed and encouraged by soul-stirring stories of regular people interacting with a God who loves them.
I'd love to hear from you! I love getting mail, especially from readers and I welcome your questions and comments. Write to me at susan@susanmaywarren.com. I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first book, though the suspense in Book 1 was more on the edge for me.
The suspense started out with a bang, with Will Masterson running through the forest after being grilled by terrorists. And Dani finding a dead body. Will needs to find a package before terrorists get to it and Dani is looking for a missing teenage girl.
I enjoyed the characters the most in this book. From the moment they met till the last page their story/relationship was intriguing. The fighting between Dani and Will was entertaining and to get the glimpses and later the full story of their past was great to read. Will struggling with his past versus new life was real and helped me connect with him. Dani's story was heartbreaking and once you read it you understand her.
"But Dani made him feel llike the guy he wanted to be. Trustworthy. Honorable. She wanted him want to be more, to do anything to see respect - even love - in her eyes"
The author uses a lot of scripture in this story - which I love. After reading this book I compared it to one of Karen Kingsbury's books, where you have a insight on the characters relationship with God, their struggles and revelations. It is one of the reasons I love Karen Kingsbury.
Still wondering what happened to Sarah - can't remember that her story was revealed in Book1.
As the author was studying Lamentations chapter 3, the word "inheritance" stood out to her.
"It’s used in many verses and means not only “reward” but also “sustainer, redeemer, rescuer” . . . basically everything. Or “enough.” We hope in God because He is enough. Enough wisdom. Enough strength. Enough forgiveness. Enough grace. Enough.... Escape to Morning is about walking toward that hope one day at a time in faith, expecting God’s mercies anew each morning and trusting Him to be enough for that day."
In this second book of Team Hope collection, both of our main characters are Christians. Because of the nature of Will's position and mission for Homeland Security, he couldn’t be completely forthcoming. His cover was as a reporter, something Dani couldn’t stand.
Dani, on the other hand was an open book. Clearly a Christian and working for a search and rescue company, she was looking for a girl who was seen fleeing from what appeared to be abductors. No way did she want a reporter getting her information only to spill it in some headline.
However as he followed her and she saw his talents at tracking and survival, they got to know and trust each other. What he knew, and she didn’t, was that the girl they were both tracking was an informant against a terrorist cell, and their lives were in constant danger.
Many times they called upon their God to sustain them, to be their guide and to be enough.
"The Christian life is a journey. One day at a time, sometimes one hour at a time. Some days are successful... others, well, they’re days of slogging through until bedtime. Through each, however, we can expect God to be our portion, our sustainer. And finally, our reward."
Another very good story within this series, albeit, not quite as good as the first. I had to roll my eyes as they were running for their lives, or chasing after a terrorist, what was going through their minds was that look, or kiss, or the growing feelings. Nope — I don’t think so. When your adrenaline is pumping and the stress of danger is all encompassing, your mind doesn’t stray to sweet feelings for someone or what a future would be like with them. It was unrealistic and made me wish the author had picked a less harrowing moment for such ponderings.
(And I wish they'd change the cover. It simply doesn’t reflect the suspense all the way through this book. This looks more like a gentle Sunday afternoon drive through the countryside. 🤔)
Another captivating book! Gave me nightmares of being taken by terrorists which wasn’t great. But I love how engaging all her stories are with unexpected twists and turns in the story.
I thought I had read all the books by Susan May Warren, but I discovered the Team Hope books. I read the first one....It was fantastic by the way, and went straight to this one. I was not disappointed! I just downloaded the 3rd book and will read that one right away. I am so thrilled I found these books!!
I somehow didn't read the first book in this series and started with this one. I loved getting to know Will and Dani. They had a great chemistry even when she hates him because he's a reporter and she blames reporters for everything bad in her life. And she does have some good points there. Her little sister was killed in a tornado, her mom committed suicide because of press reports and she can go on.
But what she isn't counting on is the fact that her heart is drawn to Will the longer she knows him and the more she's around him. What is it about him that makes her feel safe?
She has a job, a mission. Dani is here to teach a new SAR handler and canine the ropes. The local sheriff is not thrilled but she's been around that before. But somehow along the way she begins searching for someone that no one seems to want her to find.
Can Dani and WIll find the missing girl? Will has to find her for his job but can he keep the girl and Dani safe from terrorists and keep his own identity under cover?
I loved this book. Susan May Warren has a great way of writing that makes everything come alive and you just can't stop reading! Ready to find the rest of the series and devour them as well.
If anyone does not believe I finished the book in one day I did lol 😂 I loved this book so so so so much. I loved the ending when will materson showed up at lacy and Micahs wedding 👰🏼 it was so amazing and sooo sweet and when they kissed I was up jumping with joy lol 😂 and when dennette sorta lost her memory I was screaming "not literally screaming" but in my head I found an intense song to go with this book I was shaking with joy that I finally decided to read this series!!!!!!!! My sister was amazed when I told her I finished the book in one whole day starting at 4:31or4:33 who knows lol but finished the book at 10:49. My dad got sorta irritated because I was just about telling him all the chapters lol 😂 I was so stinking shocked when the bad guys found them and took them omg I was like oh no oh no 🤦🏼♀️ON TO BOOK 3 in the team hope series lol 😂 I'm not going to be surprised if I finish the book in one day or two lol 😂

This book was well done and I could really feel the emotional tension between Dani and Will. I have to admit the beginning was a little confusing with two storylines happening, until they intersected and intertwined. I really like how the author added depth of character to Will with his military background, his personal self doubts and his emotional baggage. Then when Dani shared her history, you understood her emotional trauma as well. I like how this author also ties in characters from other books so that you get to know new facets of these characters that have become your friends in the other stories. That’s really nice and you don’t have to read the other books to understand who the characters are because she does a great job introducing them Overall, I really loved this book and I look forward to reading more
This was a great read. Will Masterson and Dannette Lundeen, a Search and Rescue canine handler, meet when she finds a dead body while searching for a missing woman. Because of Will's work in Homeland Security, he has to be evasive and isn't entirely forthcoming. Danette is searching for a missing girl, the same girl that Will is looking for before terrorists can get to her. The tension and fighting between Will and Dannette was entertaining, and I enjoyed getting to know both of their backgrounds within this story. Will's struggle with his past life and new life felt real, and readers can relate. Looking forward to reading book 3.
Dani (Dannette) drops her guard to let Will in. One can see the love that she has for her dogs, but it’s a misplaced love (it doesn’t fill the void). It kind of reminds one of the first days of creation when GOD created Adam and allowed him to name all the animals, but “there was no one for Adam” (paraphrased). As usual, it is fulfilling without being sugary or saccharine. It is believable, and one embraces the characters. It’s also informative, allowing one to see into the mind of a terrorist.
This 2nd book of the series was very entertaining! My eyes were glued to the pages. I hated when the terrorist grabbed the girl but somehow I knew they’d get out of it. I never guessed how.
I read most of Susan May Warren’s books from the library. Some are hard to get. So I’m glad to have this opportunity to say what an excellent author she is. There was not one book that disappointed and I’ve read many! Can’t wait for the next one!!
After getting into the newer half of Warren’s series I’m working my way back through the others chronologically. It’s so cool to see history for characters and start to put together more pieces.
God’s mercies are new every morning. This was a theme verse for this book. New beginnings, new life in Christ, and freedom. I liked the search and rescue theme along with the cover and terrorism. It was high action and emotional impact. I can’t wait to finish the series.
I'm loving learning about, and getting to know these characters that I've already met from later published books. Susan May Warren is great about not forgetting the characters she has so intrinsically developed through her novels. Her stories draw readers in and captivates them through the last page.
Escape to Morning grabbed my attention from the first page and didn’t let go. Will is the perfect hero. He wants to be a man of God but hasn’t quite grasped how to do that. Dani fights with her memories and keeps her distance from everyone. Now the two of them have met and sparks fly instantly. I loved this book!
Jeanette Lundeen and Will Masterson were searching for someone to trust. They both had been hurt at very young ages and now in their thirties were not any closer to finding that trust. Their friendship started on lies but with the help of some very dear friends past and present, God answered their prayers. Read this book to find the answers.
Will and Dani's story was just an okay read for me. It was a big decrease in satisfaction after both the prequel and first in the series. I felt Will's charade as a reporter dragged on too long and took away from the overall plot. Still a nice easy read and I will definitely complete the series.
Susan May Warren once again writes a Bible based story that nothing keeps you guessing but learning about God's nature & I've at the same time! I've never highlighted & shared so many key passages than with this series!
Good story that come together well at the end. Will and Dani have a rough started because of her dislike for reporters. Will just has to keep his cover as a reporters so that he can make contact with a young woman who as disappeared.
A pretty good book that was filled with espionage, half truths, tragedies that left open wounds and more. First time reader of this author, I have another of her books from the library that will be read next.
This one dragged a bit for me which is very unusual for a Warren book. Still nice to know Dani and Will's story though I found Dani a bit annoying at times. Too uptight and judgemental. Will probably read the next in the series.
Nice classic suspense with some really fun relationships along the way. I loved how badly Masterson wanted to work beyond who he’d been in the past and become a dedicated man of God. Dannette was a great leading lady with her tenacity and her dog handling skills.
The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The LORD is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!” LAMENTATIONS 3:22-24
Loved it. I don't know much about the war on terrorism, but Susan May clearly did her research. Lots of suspense, a little romance, and some great Biblical truths thrown in, but not preachy.
Great book. A bit too preachy at times, but I love the story. Susan May Warren knows how to grab your interest right from the start and keep it until The End.
Awesome read. I really like these characters in this series, but Will won hands down on being the best and coolest character in this book. Great suspense, action, and ending. Loved it
