Midnight Secrets

Rate this book
A stunning sequel to "The Phantom of the Opera!" Years after the events in the original Leroux novel, Desdemona Valerius uses Christine's tale of the Opera ghost to fake her death and flee from a dangerous man. Her actions reunite the de Chagny family with Erik, The Phantom of the Opera. Relationships are reborn and love struggles to triumph as they seek to escape a madman with the power to destroy them all. Unlike other Phantom sequels and retellings "Midnight Secrets" is not influenced by the Webber play or film. It is a direct sequel to Leroux's tale, examining the history of the Valerius family who raised Christine in the original novel. It is a brilliant and imaginative work which promises to satisfy and dares you to journey further into the deep recesses of the Phantom's dark romantic saga.....

The author took the characters and took them in a new direction, while still remain faithful to the classic The Phantom of The Opera.

This is only the third Phantom of The Opera sequel I have read, but I put it at the top of my list. I liked that is was a sequel to Gustan Leroux's Phantom of the Opera, and not Andrew Loyd Webber's version. I really hate it when authors claim to write a sequel to the book, but then are actually writing a sequel to the movie (i.e. Scarlet... the Gone with the Wind Sequel).

Midnight Secrets is an amazing continuation of The Phantom of the Opera tale. I thought the story was well paced and not too slow. The characters developed extremely well through the story instead of remaining stagnant with no visible character arc. I felt compelled to keep turning the page just to see what happened next.

I gave this book a high rating because it met almost every requirement on my checklist. So, in my opinion, it is well worth more than one read through.

I thought it was an interesting story but I was somewhat disturbed by the lack of editing at some places and also the grammar problems and punctuation.

English is not my first language and I noticed the mistakes. The first major mistake is on the cover. I will leave you the joy and pleasure to discover it.

Each chapter is told by a character of the book. My favorite character is definitely Carlotta. She's the comic relief here. It's well paced, there is a little bit of everything for everyone. Christine is very different from what we can imagine her. She annoyed me where I am usually annoyed with Raoul.

I know it isn't much of a review, it's more a comment but please, grammar mistakes and lack of proper punctuation and proper editing are important things to correct.

I read a lot of phantom fic, and this is one of my favorites. I thought it had a good blend of humor, drama, and characterization. It was recommended to me by a friend, but I just never got around to reading it. But then my book group picked it, so I gave it a go, and I wasn't disappointed.

I couldn't even finish the book, not sure I even got past the second chapter. I'm at a loss as to how easy it seems to be to get bad Phan fic published.
