About the author

Elif Shafak is an award-winning British-Turkish novelist and the most widely read female author in Turkey. She writes in both Turkish and English, and has published seventeen books, eleven of which are novels. Her work has been translated into fifty languages. Shafak holds a PhD in political science and she has taught at various universities in Turkey, the US and the UK, including St Anne's College, Oxford University, where she is an honorary fellow. She is a member of Weforum Global Agenda Council on Creative Economy and a founding member of ECFR (European Council on Foreign Relations). An advocate for women's rights, LGBT rights and freedom of speech, Shafak is an inspiring public speaker and twice a TED Global speaker, each time receiving a standing ovation. Shafak contributes to major publications around the world and she has been awarded the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres. إذا عُرف السبب، بطُل العجب..

بعد أن أنهت الرواية، وضعت "أليف" فصلاً قصيراً مكوناً من ثلاث صفحات ونصف، وغير مُعنْوَن، تشرح فيه أنها كتبت هذه الرواية في السجن، أثناء قضائها مدة محكومية تبلغ عاماً وشهرين، وذلك بسبب اشتراكها مع مجموعة صغيرة اتخذت قراراً بخرق متراس الشرطة في 1-5-2002، في عهد حكومة بولند أجاويد.

في هذا الاعتقال، حدثت أربعة أمور مهدت الطريق لأليف لكتابة هذه الرواية:
أولاً: بالصدفة، ركب إلى جوارها في حافلة الشرطة رجل يعمل سائق شاحنة مكافحة حشرات. هذا الرجل أيضاً اعتُقِل ظلماً بسبب فقدان السيطرة على المقود. أُطلق سراح الرجل مساء اليوم نفسه، لكن بعد أن ألهم "أليف" فكرة هذه الرواية.

ثانياً: في زنزاتها، عانت "أليف" من الصراصير التي تواجدت بكثرة، لكنها عانت أكثر ما عانت من القمل. أجلس الآن، بعد مرور 14 عاماً تقريباً، وأتخيلها تفكّر في الناس الذين يسكنون الأحياء الشعبية، والذين يعانون بشكل مزمن من هذه المشاكل، بسبب تراكم القمامة وما شابه.

ثالثاً: ربما تكون "أليف" قد عانت من الصراصير والقمل على المستوى المادي، لكنها عانت أكثر على المستوى المعنوي. الأيام في السجن كلها متشابهة.. اليوم لا يختلف أبداً عن الأمس، والغد لن يختلف عنهما أبداً. تقول في صفحة 477:
"لعلي كنت سأشعر بملل أقل لو وُجد من يبشرني بأن يوماً من الغد سيكون أقل مللاً. ولكن الغد سيكون كما اليوم بالضبط، وكاليوم الذي بعده تماماً.
هذا الفراغ الممتد بلا نهاية دفعها للتفكير في أسئلة مصيرية: ما الذي يحكم حياتنا؟ هل هو الحظ؟ هل يفيد الهروب من الحقيقة التي هي فيها إلى الخيال؟

رابعاً: أنهت "أليف" هذه الرواية في تسعة وخمسين يوماً. وعادت لتمضي ما تبقى من مدة محكوميتها. تقول في الصفحة التالية:
" لا أعرف كيف سأمضي هنا الثلاثمئة والستين يوماً الباقية".

إذاً هذا يبرر كل الأخطاء، الغريبة على كاتبة بوزن "أليف شفق". سطحية الشخصيات، وعدم وجود علاقة بينها وبين المحور الرئيسي للرواية، والتفاصيل غير الهامة والتي لم تُضف أي شيء على الإطلاق للرواية.

ما زلت محتارة بين نجمتين، وأن أتركها بدون تقييم. أعتقد أن تركها بدون تقييم سيكون أقرب للعدل نظراً لوضعها الاستثنائي.

This was a very fanciful book about many colorful characters living in an apartment block in Istanbul which is plagued with a horrible garbage/stench problem. It almost read like a series of short stories about a bunch of different people who all live in the same place. The story revolves around who keeps dumping garbage in front of the building and how to stop it.

OK I have to say - this book's writing style did not appeal to me at all, but I think that's just my taste; I don't think it was bad writing and I think for the right reader, it would be very enjoyable. There's something about me that dislikes stories that feel like "myths" and I don't know why... it has something to do with it not being "real enough," despite the fact that I love fiction and fiction is by definition about people and events that are not real. It's hard to describe, but I've given up on other books before because of this (like Neil Gaiman's "American Gods" -- this too just felt too "myth-like").

Some of the stories felt almost "cartoony" in a way, like the characters were almost too fanciful or farfetched to be worth the effort of trying to invest myself in. The parts I like the best were the ones told from the narrator's point of view--these felt the most real, and to me contained the most richly realized characters.

I also found the writing way too wordy and descriptive (pages and pages to describe something that could've taken a paragraph), but again, I think for the right reader it might be considered rich and descriptive writing.

Unfortunately I realize this review is useless: "you might like it, you might not. Good luck!". :-)

إنها المرّة الثانية التي ألتقي فيها بقلم إليف شفاق، وكنتُ أتمنى لو أنّ لا نتعارض.
في قصر القمل، عدا الأسلوب، واللغة، كل شيءٍ فيه لا طائل منه. أشبه بأن تكون ثرثرة عوجاء. فلا القصة ولا المنطق العام يساعد على الاستمرار في القراءة. كل شيءٍ فيه أشبه بالفراغ. ولم أحبذا شيء هنا، مع الأسف. وسوف لن أنصح بقراءتهِ لأيّ أحد.

This is a very cinematic book with the narrator acting like a camera, each chapter taking place in a different apartment inside this decrepit Instanbul building, plagued by bugs and the overpowering smell of garbage. The novel is a succession of quick chapters sweeping through all the tenants lives times and again, including that of the narrator, a divorced professor with a fondness for raki. Of course, there are surprises throughout the book, and of course at the very end... I was really impressed by Shafak's caring portrayals of women, the corner stones of the book and the building. It was also a very interesting window into Turkish society full of contrasts (religious fervor, marxist intellectuals, beauty and squalor, tradition and modernity). I will read more books by Shafak as soon as possible.

فكرة الرواية شبه رواية المنور لسارماجو. صور من حيوات سكان قصر البونبون باختلاف ثقافاتهم و اطوارهم و عللهم. رواية رمزية كتبتها اليف خلال فترة سجنها. كل فصل من الرواية عن شقة بساكنيها. الشخصيات كلها كئيبة و كلهم بيعانوا من انتشار القمل في منازلهم و تراكم القمامة. اعتقد ان تراكم القمامة مقصود بيه تقشي الفساد و إن كانت أحد السكان العجائز حريصة علي الاحتفاظ بالقمامة و جمعها في سرية، فده رمز لرفض التغيير و الاحتفاظ بالنظام حتي لو في ضرر و هلاك للجميع.

مع الشخصيات المختلفة اضافت أليف توابلها المعتادة الاولياء و تأثيرهم في مجتمع اسطنبول.. الاعمال و الفأل.. الاطعمة و خصوصا العاشوراء.. الحكايات القديمة. و برغم ان الرواية كئيبة نسبياً بس غنية بصور مختلفة من المجتمع التركي.

this was the best book i ever read why?
it's like real life: it has no center story all the events are shallow and not important for other people but the charecters who are living the story
there are no heroes or villans just people
the mood of the book is amazing whenever i read it i feel like i'm sitting in a dark humid basment and it's amazing
elif is the best director i've ever seen the way she takes you from one apartmet to another is amazing like when she uses the TV or so
there're alot of tiny details in this book that will take you to a whole different world
the way the first two and last pages are connected are amazing
no story has a specific ending like it has no beginning every thing is perfect
i can re-read this book any time anywhere and still enjoy it like it's the first time its just sublime ,superb and great.

"Bir insanı tanımayı arzulamak, kof bir vaattir ve büyük külfet! Günler, geceler, haftalar, seneler boyu dinlemeyi ve gözlemeyi, didiklemeyi ve hissetmeyi, deşmeyi ve dermeyi gerektirir; kabukları kaldırabilmeyi ve altlarından ince ince sızacak, belki de fışkıracak olan kanı görmeye tahammül edebilmeyi… Bunca zahmete katlanamayacak olduktan sonra, daha yolun başındayken dönüp, bu işe hiç kalkışmamak yeğdir" (s. 277).

Elif Şafak kitaplarını bir dönem Metis Yayınları basıyordu. Annem de ilk yayımlandığında Metis'ten almış, okumuştu Bit Palas'ı. O zamanlar çocuğum ben daha. Metis'in kapağı böcek ve türevlerinden deli gibi korkan çocuk ben'i o kadar ürkütmüştü ki (bu kadar ürkecek ne var ben de bilmiyorum) Elif Şafak dendiğinde hâlâ zihnimde ilk beliren şey o kitap kapağı olur. :)

Elif Şafak'ın romanları Aşk Öncesi ve Sonrası olarak ayıranları başta anlayamıyordum; ancak Mahrem'i ve Bit Palas'ı okuduktan sonra neden bu ayrımın yapıldığını anlamaya başladım sanırım. Bir dönem çok takdir edilse de şu sıralar pek sevilmeyen bir yazar Elif Şafak. Bense Havva'nın Üç Kızı hariç okuduğum tüm kitaplarını keyifle okudum; fakat Bit Palas nedense daha bir farklı geldi bana. Her ne kadar yukarıda paylaştığım alıntı sebebiyle onları "tam olarak" tanıdığımı söyleyemesem de karakterleri anlamaya çalışarak yavaş yavaş okumayı tercih ettim. Onların hayatlarına ortasından dalıyoruz ve aynı hayatlarına girişimiz gibi hayatlarından çıkışımız da hızlı oluyor. Bazıları için bu çıkış -bence- gereğinden biraz fazla hızlı, fazla soru işareti bırakıyor insanda.

Belki de doğru bir zamanda okuduğum için büyük bir zevkle okudum Bit Palas'ı. Hikâyeler beni çok çok etkiledi, özellikle Agripina Fyodorovna Antipova'nın, Madam Teyze'nin ve Mavi Metres'in hikâyelerini zihnimin bir köşesine sakladım.

The French writer Georges Perec in his La Vie mode d'emploi once described all the inhabitants of a building in Paris. Elif Shafak does the same, but in a much more superficial way (without the ingenious-mathophobia of Perec) and located in Istanbul. Some pieces are pretty funny (the barbershop scenes for instance), and the relations between the inhabitants are intriguing, but I had the impression to read a kind of film scenario with no real storyline. The relatively theoretical introduction by the supposed author (about the relationship between truth, deception and nonsense), and its more or less surprising sequel at the end, reinforced my feeling of unsatisfaction. What remains is an impression of the bustling life in an Istanbul apartment block, nothing more, nothing less. (rating 2.5 stars)

There was a rather intriguing addendum by Shafak, "Dreaming in English" in which she defends herself against the criticism that from now on she writes her novels in English, not in Turkish. I didn't know she did. She argues that having almost always lived outside of Turkey, she's attracted by 'the flexibility of English anatomy and the versatility and openness of its vocabulary'; but she sees her seperateness from Turkey also as a strength: the distance allows her to write more freely about Turkey and to explore more deeply what it means to be Turkish. I have my doubts about this point of view, but perhaps I ought to explore the literature of other famous exiles. Shafak ends with stating that the real homeland of novelists and poets is none other than 'Storyland', and that really is a bit too simplistic to my taste.

العشق نظام عصبي كيميائي اصدق العشاق خفيف العقل اذا رأيت أمراءه تعشق زوجها الى حد كبير لا تعيه بعد سنوات
طويلة فأعرفوا ان عقلها يعمل كما يعمل طائر الكنار المغرد

اذا كان ثمة شيء في الحياه يزداد لمجرد العناد عندما يعرف انه يجب ان ينقص ويولد من فراغ فهو الوهم ثمة نقطة شبع حتى في المرحلة الاخيرة من الخوف عندما يصل الانسان الى تلك الصفحة لا يخاف حتى لو غرق الى انفه في اكثر شيء يخافه ولا يستطيع ان يخاف بعد ذلك الخوف الزائد يخدر نفسة اما الوهم فهو ماء معتق في بئر لا قرار له فلا حدود لعياره ولا يوجد ترياق خاص به وبقدر ما يكون مصدر الخوف ملموسا معروفا بقدر ما يكون مصدر الوهم مجردا مبهما
لهذا فان الانسان رغم امكانيته تحديد اسباب الخوف دون صعوبة لا يمكنه تحديد سبب تجواله متوهما بشكل دائم

يقولون إنني صاحبة خيال قوي. وهذا أفضل أسلوب اكتشف حتى اليوم لقول: "إنك تقولين هراءً!". يمكن أن يكونوا على حق. عندما أبدأ بالقلق، وعندما أقابل بضرورة ما أقول وأين ومتى، وعندما أخاف من نظرات الآخرين، وعندما أحاول عدم إظهار أنني أخاف من نظرات الآخرين، وعندما أريد أن أعرف بنفسي لشخص أريد أن أتعرف عليه، في الحقيقة أنني أتجاهل مقدار قلة معرفتي بنفسي، وعندما يحرق الماضي روحي، وعندما لا أستطيع قبول أن المستقبل لن يكون أفضل من اليوم، وعندما أهضم أن أكون في المكان الذي أوجد فيه أو الإنسان الذي أنا عليه.

ابدا بالهراء بقدر ما الهراء بعيدا عن الحقيقة بقدر ما هو بعيد عن الكذب الكذب يقلب الحقيقة اما الهراء فهو يلحم الكذب بالحقيقة حيث لا يمكن التمييز بينهم يبدو الامر معقدا ولكنة في الحقيقة بسيط جدا انه بسيط الى حد امكانية التعبير عنه بخط واحد


وجوة بعض الناس اشبه مغناطيس وليس بشرةكان نتوءات شخصية الانسان وبروزاته ونزلاته وطلعاته وجوهرة تجتمع هناك وهؤلاء يفكرون بوجوههم ويتحدثون بها ويناقشون ويتألمون ويفرحون ويحبون اجسادهم عبارة عن قاعده موضوعه لحمل وجوههم وهى ضرورية ولكنها زائده في الوقت ذاته هؤلاء في الحقيقة وجوه ماشية لهذا السبب لا يستطيعون اخفاء مشاعرهم في أي وقت ينعكس شعورهم أي كان في نفس اللحظة تماما

This is long and fairly slow-paced, so it takes some patience...but the patience pays off. There is amazing detail, and both wry humor and poignancy. The narrative feels somewhat shapeless - the somewhat interconnected stories of people sharing an apartment building, interconnected precisely because of their physical proximity. But as I was reading it dawned on me that this was a very smart kind of allegory on the situation of Turkey, made of so many different groups of people with different yet interconnecting (because of physical proximities) histories....and not only of Turkey but so many places. By the way Shafak used to (and may still, I just haven't checked lately) write an interesting weekly column in one of the online Turkish newspapers that published an English edition.

I have always loved Elif Shafak’s voice for women and Istanbul.This book depicts the life stories of people living in one apartment building but ignorant of each other’s sorrows and happinesses..

دائماً أقف حائرة بعد كل عمل لأليف، إنها مبدعة في كل قصة ورواية..

لا أعلم من أين تخلق أليف شخصياتها، من أين لها بكل هذا الخيال وهذه القصص.

لا تدع الشخصيات تتجول عبثاً في صفحاتها لكل شخصية حكاية ودور، لا بد لهم أن يخطو خطوطهم على الورق ليست أسماء عابرة فقط.

اعتقد بأن أليف في هذه الرواية أرهقتها رؤية الزبالة في شوارع أسطنبول أو تمللت من رؤية عبارات تدعو لعدم رمي الزبالة على كل جدران أبنية اسطنبول
"يكون حماراً من يرمي الزبالة هنا"
"إذا كنت فلا ترم زبالة، وإذا كنت دباً فأرم"
"يرجى ممن يحب ربه ألا يرمي زبالة هنا"
"الزبالة ممنوعة هنا"
"لطفاً لا ترموا زبالة هنا. إنهم يدعون عليكم"

تدور القصة هنا عن(قصر بنبون) ماكان هو قبل إن يكون قصر وحتى قبل القبل هو كان مقبرة وبعدها شارع ومن ثم تحول لهذا القصر الذي بناءه أيضاً لها قصة وهذا يدل على إبداع الكاتبة التي تجعل من كل شيء قصة وحكاية فحكاية القصر هو بناءه من قبل مهاجر روسي بناه لزوجته الأولى بعد أن هجرها في مرضها وبعد عودته رأها ما زلت تذكر اسطنبول والذكريات فأحب أن يكافأها بهذا القصر وعاش فيه الا إن ماتت

وبعده كان هذا القصر عبارة عن ١٠ شقق وابتلى سور حديقة هذا القصر بالزبالة المكومة وذات الرائحة العفنة
تحكي لنا أليف حكاية هذه الشقق بين

* مصففا الشعر التوأمين جلال وجمال.. وكيف اختلافهم ثم يكتشفوا حقيقة شبههم

* موسى ومريم وابنهم محمد.. مريم وإيمانها بكل ولي ومحمد وشخصيته الضعيفة وكيف أصبح بعد ذلك ذا جرأة

* آل أطمشيزاج أوغلو.. عائلة تخاف من مراقبة الناس لها وحكاية ابنائهم الكبير المستهتر والكبرى المريضة النفسية

* الحاج حاج وابنه وكنته وأحفاده.. الأطفال مع جدهم بعد أن يذهب الوالدين إلى العمل

* الدكتور.. هو الراوي للقصة كلها وماهي حكايته مع آيشين زوجته السابقة وصديقته أثل

* الخليلة الزرقاء.. هي عشيقة لتاجر زيت الزيتون ثم للدكتور وسابقاً كانت عشيقة الأمير البنفسجي

* متين تشتين وكارسي ناديا.. زوجين مختلفي الجنسية هو ممثل دمي الظل وهي خبيرة حشرات

* سيدار وغابا.. ذلك هو طالب الطب المفلس الدي يفكر بالانتحار دائماً وكلبه غابا

* هيجين تيجين وصو.. هيجين المصابة بوسواس النظافة وابنتها صو التي اكتشفت المدرسة بإصابتها بالقمل

* المدام خالة.. ما قصتها التي جعلتها تجمع الزبالة في منزلها


قلتها أليف لها خيال واسع تصنع منه كل هذه الحكايات العشر ولا ننسى حكاية ظلم أوزوباتك الذي يعمل مكافح للحشرات

وانتهت قصص أليف التي يتضح لك أنها من كتابة أحدهم في السجن

قد أقول الثلاث نجمات للرواية ليس لشيء سيء بها بل لأنني جعلتها في مجال مقارنة مع أعمال أليف الأخرى

العمل جميل لو تحول لعمل تلفزيوني...

بدل ان تتمحورالقصة حول بطل واحد وما يقابله من احداث كما في اغلب الروايات ، تتناول الرواية قصص عشر اسر مختلفة ( الرابط الوحيد بينهم هو سكناهم في قصر بنبون او قصر القمل كما اطلقت عليه الكاتبة ، من ضمنهم الراوي الذي تكون رواية الاحداث على لسانه ، فيخرج الكتاب لنا على شكل فصول كل فصل يخص احد قاطني شقق بنبون او قصرالقمل .
تعود الكاتبة بالزمن الى ما قبل الحدث الرئيسي للقصة لتبين لنا العناصر الرئيسية للرواية ليكون القارئ ملما بجميع التفاصيل قبل القصة وما قبل قبل القصة .

عند قرائتي للرواية لفت انتباهي عده نقاط تميز الرواية عن بقية الروايات ،
النقطة الاولى هو غرابة الاسماء التي اعطتها الكاتبة لكثير من شخوص الرواية ( ظلم ، شيخ فراغ ، الخليلة الزرقاء ، الحاج حاج ، المدام الخالة ) وبعضهم تشير لهم بالاعمار ( الذي في الخامسة والنصف ، الذي بالسادسة والنصف ) والبعض الاخر تشير لهم بصيغة نعت ( قالت الشقراء التي تأتي كل اسبوع لتصبغ شعرها وغير المقتنعة ابدا بعدم ضرورة القيام بهذا العمل بكل هذه الكثافه ) يرد ذكر هذه الشخصية اكثر من مرة فتكرر الكاتبة هذه التسمية في كل مرة يتم ذكرها ، اعتقد الغاية الوحيدة لهذا الاسلوب هو منح صفة غير تقليدية للرواية وجعلها متحررة باسلوبها .

النقطة الاخرى هي طول الجمل في احيان كثيره مما اضطرني كثيرا باعادة قراءة الجملة مرة ثانية ، لا الوم الكاتبة فربما الترجمة هي السبب .
النقطة الاخيرة هي تسمية القصر البونبون بقصر القمل ، عند انتهائي من الرواية تصورت ان اسم قصر النفايات او قصر الصراصير ستكون اكثر ملائمة .

Ai vrea să cunoști Istanbulul dincolo de recenziile din reclamele agențiilor de turism? Ai vrea să cunoști Istanbulul prin locuitorii săi? Dacă da, atunci trebuie să citești această carte neapărat. Sau poate ai vrea să cunoști niște personaje originale, bine conturate, amuzante sau triste, dar atât de reale…

Citind Palatul puricilor, te simți ca acel vecin care știe totul despre vecinii săi de scară, care este capabil să tragă cu ochiul și urechea în sufrageria tuturor vecinilor. Iar Palatul puricilor nu este orice bloc, orice scară, ci a adunat în locuințele sale cea mai diversă lume a Istanbulului, mostre ale diferitor medii sociale, nivel de educație, ocupații, preferințe. Îi cunoști pe toți. Dar nu toți în același timp, căci ei interacționează destul de limitat. Elif Shafak ni-i prezintă treptat, în povestioare, întorcându-se din când în când în alt apartament.

♡ ليس الحب سوى آله كيمياء عصبية .. وإن أشد العشاق هم أساساً مغفلون، وإذا ما ألتقيت امرأة متزوجة منذ سنوات وما تزال تعشق زوجها وغارقه في حبه حتى أذنيها فتأكد أن ذاكرتها تعمل عمل عصفور صغير، فبحسب البروفيسور كاندينسكي:
ينبغي للذاكرة أن تكون فانية، إذا ما أُريد للحب أن يكون خالداً !!

I gave this book one star only ! I found it to be so boring honestly. Even though I like Elif Shafak I just found this book to be so boring everything dragged along through pages and pages. it took me forever to finish this book.

انها ليست المرة الاولي التي ألتقي فيها مع قلم أليف شفاق بل الرابعه
كانت البداية مع قواعد العشق الاربعون و كانت حقا بداية مبهرة و ملهمه .. انهيت تلك الملحمه و أنا اشعر بكثير من الفضل و الامتنان للكاتبه و من يومها و اصبحت ضمن قائمتي لافضل الكُتاب الذين عرفتهم ... اصبحت مؤلفاتها ضمن اولياتي دائما و ابدا ... الاختيار الاول دوما ان اضُطررت للاختيار
حين وقعت عيناي علي قصر القمل لم اتردد لحظة واحدة فهي كاتبتي المفضلة ... و لكن كان للقدر رأي أخر
لاول مرة لم استمتع بعمل تكتبه أليف ... كان البداية محمسه و مشجعه و لكن مع الخوض في تفاصيل الرواية اصبحت مملة
لا ادري لم شعرت و كأنني جلست بالقرب امرأة ثرثارة كثيرة الكلام تهذي في عدة مواضيع مختلفة في ان واحد ... لا ادري !!!
الكاتبه دخلت في تفاصيل لا حصر لها و اغلبها دون اهمية تقريبا .... و الادهي من ذلك كله كانت النهاية ...
حين وصلت للنهاية كنت حقا اتمني نهاية تنسيني ما شعرت به من ملل اثناء قرأتي لهذا الكتاب و لكن .. كانت النهاية صادمة و مزعجة جداااا
اغبقت الكتاب و اكتفيت بالصمت .... !!

نأتي للترجمه ....
الترجمه كانت سيئة ... قرات ثلاثة كتب للكاتبه و لم اشكو في اي منها من سوء الترجمه الي هذا الحد

و لكن ...
للانصاف هذه الرواية لم تسجل نقطة ضعف للكاتبه في نظري علي العكس ... يمثل نقطة قوة
لانه و ببساطة عمل قديم للكاتبه .. تمت كتابته و نشره في تركيا عام 2002 و هذا و ان دل علي شئ ف هو يدل علي التطور و النضج التي تسعي اليه الكاتبه في كل عمل جديد ... ان كان هذا هو ما كانت عليه عام 2002 و ما اصبحت عليه الان في روايتها الجديده (نساء حواء الثلاث ) و ما قبلها
ف هذه نقطة قوة ... فهي دائما تسعي للتطوير من نفسها و من كتابتها

و حقا و من اعماق قلبي انا في انتظار النسخة المترجمه من روايتها الجديدة نساء حواء الثلاث
اشتقت لهذا القلم المتجدد و المتطور دائما

و بالنسبة لقصر القمل ... ف هو كتاب لن أرشحه لاي من اصدقائي ... كانت تجربة مُرهقة اتمني لن تتكرر :))

През цялото време, докато четях, очаквах развръзка. Не я търсете, защото нямаше. В началото започна тежко с първите две глави, казвах си добре, добре и продължих. Нищо подобно. Най-слабата книга на Елиф според мен, въпреки таланта и на разказвачка. Както започна, така и свърши, с много боклук отвън и отвътре! Аз не открих нищо ценно, не Ви я препоръчвам.

Nice beginning and nice ending! The long-gone past and the past stories are nicely written and there is a lot of humor in them. However, I failed to be convinced by the characters residing the Bonbon Palace: although their presentation seemed interesting at first, it then transformed in a too long, unfocused wanna-be novel with a very far-fetched story. I was bored with the stories, I was bored with the long descriptions of bugs and garbage and I didn't like the characters.
The quality of the style is the same as in all Shafak's books I read before: the writing is catchy and intertwined with witticisms (which compensates for some of the mentionned shortcomings) and this is why I don't give the book a lower rating. However, I found the book disappointing and compared to "The Bastard of Istanbul" quite a joke. An interesting exercise of writing in itself through the form that Shafak constructed, this book failed to impress me half as much at least as "The Bastard...".

Nothing much happens and it's great! The story introduces us into the lives of different people only sharing the fact that they live in the palace. There is the haircutter's salon, the student with the big dog, the old elegant lady, the superstitious mother with her family...and of course there is always Istanbul. The city is personalized and characterized over decades and I felt like getting to know it better (though I've never been there).
I read the book everyday in the tram and managed to completely forget the world around me in only a few moments. Shafak writes with much irony, knowledge of history and always with empathy. It is a wonderful book and I can only recommend it, including the suprising ending.

نَجمتيْن : واحدة لأسلوب إليف الرائع .. الثانية لقدرتها على أسرِي بتفاصيلها رغم أن الرواية في نهاية المطاف قد يتضح لقارئها أنها بلا طائل ,,

الرواية عبارة عن مجموعة شخصيات يقطنُون قصر القمل أو الحلوى الذي بناه مهاجر روسي لزوجته .. تتحدث عنهم اليف و عن حياتهم في ذلك القصر .. رواية أشبه بحكايا ألف ليلة و ليلة .. أو فيلم تركي طويل ..
أتممتها لأنني شعرت بالذنب إذا تركتها مرة ثانية .. و أتممتها لأنني كنت أنتظر من اليف أن تصافح ذائقتي ككل مرة لكنّ ذلك مع هذه الرواية للأسف لم يحدث ,,
لا أعلم ما الغاية من كتابة رواية بذاك الطول و تلك الأحداث الكثيرة المتراصّة ..
المهم أنني سأتناسى هذه الوقفة مع اليف شافاق و امرّ إلى إتمام روايتها الأخرى "شرف" ,,

رواية اكثر من رائعة كنت متلهفة لقرأتها عندما قرأت نبدة عنها وعلمت انها اول اعمال اليف شافاق الروائية واول ماترجم لها كانت لهفتي كبيرة لأطلاع علي اول عمل ادبي اتبثت به نفسها وجدارة قلمها للترجمة والحضور بشكل قوي في منافسة عالمية خارج حدود بلادها اعجبتني بساطة الفكرة والرواية حيث الأسلوب الآسر الذي يجبرك علي اكمال الرواية والاسترسال في قرأتها دون ملل اعجبني ذكاءها في تقديم الافتتاحية والنقلات الزمنية الموفقة
بأختصار رواية انصح بها

Tai antra šios rašytojos skaityta knyga. Skaitant buvo momentų kai knyga patiko, bet didesnę dalį knygos vertinčiau kaip vidutinišką. Ne dėl to, kad knyga buvo neįdomi, ne, paprasčiausiai arba nesutapo mudviejų aura arba skaičiau netinkamu metu. Nors vietos kuriose buvo aprašomas Stambulas patiko, kai kurios net privertė pasigooglinti dėl išsamesnės informacijos.
Knygos siužetas kaip ir minėta knygos anotacijoje kažkiek primena tūkstančio ir vienos nakties pasakas, tik čia dešimt butų ir kiekvieno jų veikėjai pasakoja istorijas iš savo kampo, kurios vėliau kaip ir tikimasi sueina į vieną visumą. Visa tai manau buvo truputį ištęsta, vietomis, net nebuvo įdomu skaityti ir norėjosi tiesiog arba mesti knygą arba praversti tuos puslapius, tačiau su šiokiomis tokiomis pertraukomis knygą perskaičiau ir nė kiek nesigailiu, nes laikas praleistas skaitant tikrai buvo kažkiek vertingas susipažįstant su Turkijos žmonėmis ir jų kultūra. Galbūt kitos šios rašytojos knygosman patiks labiau, nežinau, tačiau kolkas jų skaityti nesinori nes mintyse vis dar stovi ledinukų rūmai.

Elif Shafak este una dintre autoarele mele preferate. Știu că alegând un roman de sub penița ei, nu am cum să dau greș. Palatul puricilor însă...dacă ar fi fost primul roman care mi-ar fi căzut în mână...nu știu dacă aș mai fi căutat-o neapărat.
Un roman bine construit, bucăți de puzzle care se așează treptat în fața cititorului, însă și câteva pagini care m-au plictisit, cu înșiruiri insipide, inodore, incolore, pagini cu un umor care nu a fost prea pe gustul meu, cel puțin la început. Dacă eram la prima întâlnire cu Elif...cred că renunțam. Însă...însă...nu regret absolut deloc faptul că am citit-o! Shafak a zugrăvit foarte bine Istanbulul, cu diversitatea lui culturală, cu mirosurile mâncărurilor apetisante, dar și cu mizeria prezentă din ce în ce mai des în orașele mari, de mirosurile apăsătoare ale gunoaielor oamenilor nepăsători și indolenți.

The Flea Palace took a fair amount of time and effort to get into. It is concerned with the residents of a ten-apartment block in Istanbul. I generally enjoy fiction in which a physical structure (block of flats, shopping mall, etc) is the main character. However, the narrative here was much more interested in the inhabitants interactions than the building itself. This was not vividly described, although the bug infestation and terrible smells in it definitely were. I did enjoy the distinctive details of individual living spaces that were dropped in. It took quite a while for all the residents to be introduced and their relationships set up, but in due course they did prove to be a varied and interesting set. There are moments of great profundity and humour, however the narrative is characterised by meandering. The reader gets brief snippets of various lives, some of which seem to work better than others. On balance, I enjoyed the concept more than the execution.

The paperback edition I read features an interesting and slightly confusing afterword. Shafak is Turkish and the front page says 'translated from the Turkish by Müge Göçek', yet the afterword is Shafak's defense of writing her novels in English. She states that,

I write my novels in English first. The English is translated into Turkish by professional translators (whose work I admire and respect) and I then take the new Turkish version and rewrite it with my rhythm, my energy, my vocabulary.

So did I read The Flea Palace in translation or not? Has it been written in English, translated into and rewritten in Turkish, then translated back into English again? This little mystery certainly added intrigue to the reading experience.

القصة أطول من اللازم ولقد شعرت بالملل في أوقات كثيرة لم أخرج بفائدة منها فألاحداث كمن يشاهد مسلسل تركي عائلي لم تجذبني بعكس بقية مؤلفات اليف ولكن هناك بعض الأفكار في الرواية تستحق التأمل .

القصة تدور حول مبنى قديم أهداه جنرال روسي لزوجته وبعد وفاتهم تقوم ابنتهم بتحويله إلى عمارة سكنية حيث تشاء الصدفة أن يجتمع في المبنى مجموعات مختلفة تماما (شلة مجانين) حيث تنتقل القصة بين شقة وأخرى .

شقة 1 عائلة حارس العمارة والشغالة والذين يعاني ابنهم من الاضطهاد في المدرسة بسبب قصر قامته
شقة2 طالب كلية الطب المعدم الذي يفكر كثيرا بالانتحار ويعيش مع كلبه
شقة 3 التوأمين مصففا الشعر الذين يختلفان بكل شي إلا في المظهر
شقة 4 العائلة التي تحب التجسس على الآخرين
شقة 5 العائلة الي يسكن معهم الجد الذي يضايق الأم بقصهه الخرافية عن الجن والأولياء التي تفسد عقول الاطفال
شقة 6 الزوج الخائن وزوجته الأوكرانية مدمنة المسلسلات
شقة 7 الاستاذ الجامعي مدمن الكحول الذي يعاني من أزمة طلاقه
شقة 8 العشيقة الملتزمة بالأفكار الدينية
شقة 9 الأم مهووسة النظافة وابنتها الثرثارة
شقة 10 العجوز الأرملة التي تجمع القمامة سرا

اليف شافاك هي من المؤلفين المفضلين لدي و طالما قرأت لهذا الكثير من الروايات و التي كانت في كل رواية تتناول قضية سياسية او ظاهرة اجتماعية و احداث تاريخية لتناقشاها بشكلٍ روائي
و لكن في هذه الرواية قصر الحلوى او قصر القمل لا لم افهم ما الذي كانت اليف تريد ان توصله الى القارئ. عمارة سكنية قديمة تسكنها أوناس من طبقات اجتماعية تركية مختلفة ثقافيا و عقائديا
فمنهم الاستاذ الجامعي التي تدور احداث الرواية على لسانه و منهم العمة السيدة العجوز و السيدة المهووسة بالنظافة تاجين و ناديا الرومانية. و مريم. التي تتمثل فيها كل الأنثروبولوجيا التركية. و المعتقدات الدينية
و كذلك التوآمان مصففا الشعر جمال و جلال و العشيقة الزرقاء
و غيرهم كل له حكايته الخاصة و التي لا علاقة لها بحكايات الآخرين
و لكن الجميع يشتركون من رائحة الزبالة المتكدسة امام باب العمارة و كثرة الحشرات الزاحفة في هذه العمارة
في هذه الرواية تناولت اليف بالتفصيل الممل حياة الذبابة والصرصار و كأني اقرأ كتاب عالم الحشرات و كما تتطرقوا الى بعض النظريات السياسية
لتنتهي الرواية. نهاية غير متوقعة كعادتها و لربما كانت النهاية أفضل ما بالرواية

إليف شافاك كاتبة تركية قد يجدها الكثير من القراء المخضرمين عاديه او أحياناً غير جيدة وقد يعتبرها البعض لم تبدع الا في قواعد العشق الاربعون ، قد لا تكون هذه الرواية روايتي المفضلة و لكني اعتبر إليف شافاك الكتابة الاقرب لنفسي ، قد يكون السبب في ذلك هو أهتمامي اللامحدود بالتفاصيل الدقيقة او حبي لان اكون في موضع المتفرج على ما يفعله الناس وما يتصرفوه ،كاتبتي المفضلة تلبي طلباتي ، فلسفتها بالحياة في اغلب رواياتها هي ما يعجبني ، وكما كانت قواعد العشق الاربعون و لقيطة اسطنبول و الفتى المتيم والمعلم و حليب اسود كذلك كانت ( قصر القمل ) : لطيفة ، خفيفة - بالرغم من طولها- مليئة بالتنبيهات و المواقف والجمل البسيطة ذات المعاني المهمة ، تخرج من الرواية بالعبرة وقد تحسم موقف مهم في حياتك و بهذا يلبي الكتاب هدفه -برأيي-
فلطالما كانت رائحة الزبالة تأتي من داخل البيت وقد نظن انها تأتي من المزبلة القريبة ! لكي تعرف الحقيقة تتبع مسيرة القمل
